Hi all… I have the chance to buy a neighbor’s deceased husband’s 1990 Enco 110-0818 lathe, and was wondering how to estimate a reasonable price for it? Is there an ‘edmund’s used lathes’ site or can I rely on you folks to give me a clue?

I know the lathe hasn’t been used in 8 years, but have no idea if that’s a good thing or not-so-much.

That lathe actually looks like its in really good condition, pics are limited but the ways looks almost pristine, don't think the lathe was ever really used.? Value of it also really depends what tooling is included and what prices are like in your area.

It's a 9 x 20" lathe with quick change gear box and 3 jaw chuck.

I would say a reasonable price is $600-$800 based only on what I can see, if it comes with other good tooling then definitely some more. Something like this in that condition has been selling in my area for around $1,200.

Enco lathes were made in Taiwan and much better than the China ones now a days but it's still not a US, UK or Swiss made lathe or an Austrian made EMCO Compact 8 that it was copied after but based on what I can see, I think there's a good chance there's no issues with it and you can be making nice chips soon with it. Parts, info and tooling for this lathe are easily accessible as there were many iterations of this lathe made and shipped all over the world.

**** The Key thing is how much tooling comes with this lathe, you really want to look in every shelf, drawer, box, cabinet, nook and cranny in the space for all the tooling. Trust me, it pays dividends.

You'll want a quick change tool post but that current one will get you start for a little while. QCTP set up doesn't cost too much now a days

Thanks, macgee, for the response… must not be much tooling because she’s asking $400.

I hope to get a better look at it this weekend and investigate tooling situation

I would just hand over the cash ASAP for $400! I wouldn't even wait an hour. There will be many people rushing to get that for $400, it will go very fast. Thats a smoking deal. any tooling would just be gravy
