1st Post, 1st Home, 2nd Garage

Well this has got to be one of the most amazing websites I've found. A must for any do-it-yourselfer. I recently just bought my first house and it has a two car garage. I told my girlfriend, NOTHING is done to the house, till the garage has a flooring in it. INFACT, we're not even moving in it, till something uniform is on the floor in the garage.

While growing up, my dad provided me with an incredible shop, it didn't look near as nice as some of the ones i've seen on here, but it had every tool i could ever need. Many motors were torn apart and rebuilt in there. Now its my turn to make a garage like I want. I'm starting with the floor, and i'll work up from there. I've read about epoxy's and tile and I'm leaning towards the epoxy, because of engine oils, antifreeze, water, whatever that would get in between tiles. PLUS the disadvantage of tiles and jack stands. I think it would be easier to clean a non tiled floor. The laundry room is also connected to the garage, and i was going to have the floor of it done in the epoxy too. Does anyone have any helpful hints, or maybe another idea of a flooring to use? Also, are there any sites with the color of epoxy's you can use? All help is much appreciateed. I can see a future of many years on this board!

Different brands of epoxy offer different colors and some even offer clear top coats. Do you have a color in mind and would you want a glossy top coat? That will at least narrow it down for you.

I'm thinking mid to dark gray with speckles in it. I wanna see a reflection in it, Super High Gloss, I want it to look wet when its dry.

Try the guys here for supplies. They do a lot of the Nextel Cup shop floors.

This is in contrast to the "eopxy" floors that the big boxes and others sell.

I was at a home & garden show over the weekend and a vendor was selling "Corazzo" which I learned was a 10-mil "epoxy" coating. Here's a newsflash- 10 mils is too thin for a real floor.

I just got a quote from a guy here in dallas to do a two car garage was 12-1500 bucks, and they literally grind the concrete before they put the stuff down. He said you can drag an engine block across it, and wont hurt. that sounds pretty good.
