This is one of several I saved from eternal rot in my dads shed. Since this is my first Im starting small. I have already hit it with a wire brush go to sand next. Still undecided on color. Good way to spend a Sunday :)

If that was a military issue box, I would have only wd-40's the outside and went after and possilbe refinished the inner tray.

Seems to be:
"Original WW2 Chest, Steel, M5. The tool and spare parts box for the M1919A4 or M1919A6 Browning Machinegun. Still has its original tray inside. Very good used condition"

Those thing go for far more money as "collectibles" than as usable daily tote boxes and gun guys go nuts over them.

That right here is the "bee's knees".

With the stenciling on the side and the shiny clasps, that 50+ year old box will go another 50 years.
Or until the zombies or Jihadists come.

Hit it with a little Johnson Paste wax. I did that to an old antitank ammo box in my kids room. He liked the finish.
