Snap on makes 2 1/2 inch drive sockets. But while looking in the catalog & online I have not found the device that would drive a 2.5 inch socket.
Does any one have any information as to the tools used with these sockets?
I asked my snap on dealer and he did not have a clue, and he is curious also about what one would use.

In a related note snap on has discontinued the transfer punch set this is why I have been having problems getting a replacement.

thank you for your time

For use on hi-torques,
off the top of my head:
Nuke/Coal/Steam turbine
Oil Rigs
Ships
Bridges

Epsteins had a boat-anchor of a socket in the middle of the floor a while back, 4 inch drive for an off-shore oil rig. all yours for about 5k

My brother works for a fastener manufacturer. He has a stainless steel nut on his desk that was like 6X.5 threads. It failed a metallurgy test for the customer, so they rejected an order of like 10 or 12.

It has been a while since I have seen it, but I think it measures something like 8 3/4, or 9 inch wrench size.

I have no desire to own big sockets, even less of a desire to use them.
I work on formula cars, I avoid GT and sports racers because you need two people to take the body work off.
Plus the price of those sockets would kill my tool budget for the year, if not a couple of years.

I think one of those sockets was like 30 or 40 grand, no? I remember seeing them but can't remember the price. I guess you gotta have big nuts to need sockets like that.

CP & IR make 2-1/2 impact wrenches.
Need a crane to pick them up - the IR version weighs 215lbs

Sockets aren't cheap either!

Are they chrome? Can I use them on my impact?

12pt or 6pt? Can I warranty if I scratch it?

This is even better, on the SO link there is one person's review. probably a joke and he never purchased it. If he did, he should be inducted into the Garage Journal Hall of Fame. Review below for the $40k set...

I took a second mortgage out on my house to buy this socket set. The quality is top notch. I have not found a use for this set yet but when I need it, I'll be glad I have it. It has great "WOW" factor when showing it to friends."
