Haha, this is about tools. What the hell does free the world this and that have to do with anything? :lol_hitti

In the meantime, you keep buying Chinese **** and running us into the ground.

it's not the Chinese, it's the American companies who make **** in China that running us into the ground.

Until our government makes American companies that import **** pay taxes on the foreign workers, things will not improve. Of course, the conservatives say it shouldn't be this way and will cry until the cows come home about it, just like they are the tire tariffs that were imposed eight months ago to combat outsourcing by American tire manufacturers.

seriously, MORE government?

haters will be haters, at the end of the day, those who get the job done are always be the winner, those don't have the tools(domestic or import) to do the job will always be losers, or just lazy.

FYI, I will not buy this set. thou I have a different set I bought 5 years ago still use them as my road tools. they have been abused, ran over, dropped, hammered on, left in the rain, slip 'n slide crosss the shop, yet one has been broken.

You're joking aren't you? Gotta be. They are a great deal, but let's leave it at that.

what would you buy to simply fill your hansen trays? i understand you may not see the point in doing that, but put yourself in these exact shoes.

you'll never have to use a 1/2" socket. it's just for shits and giggles.

Spend $4.33 or spend $270+???

nevermind, we'll just leave it at that.

Ok you just said $25, now it's $270? Not sure where you're going with that, but it doesn't really matter.

I already have nearly two of every socket Craftsman makes, so I wouldn't buy either. :lol_hitti

I use my 1/2 sockets every time I work on my truck actually. Maybe that's just for shits and giggles though, so who knows, haha.

I agree if you are going to just be filling a socket tray and not using them, why not go for those. I would also use them in my trail box if it wasn't already full. Personally though, if I was buying a socket set for decoration it wouldn't be HF. That's just me. Agree or don't, doesn't matter to me.

wow this thread is getting pretty ugly. I was just at the HF down the street. Picked up a set of drill bits for $7.99, not because i think they are great, but because the tin they came in would cost me around $30+ from an industrial supplier, so i'll throw the bits over to the woodworking side of my garage, and fill it with some good stuff as i sort through the giant pile. Also picked up some 1/2" metric impact sockets $14, and some 3/8" metric shallow sockets for $4. Both socket sets, like the ones the post was originally about were made in TAIWAN, not China. Sadly even HF seems to be going cheaper and it seems all the Taiwan tools are on close out. They actually do seem to be pretty good quality. If this thread isn't locked by the time i get back from dinner i'll shoot a few pics comparing them to some of the Craftsman and Snap on i have in my box. and yes i know appearance isn't everything, but its a good start in judging quality.

sorry, the $270+ was for the snap-on...thought that would have been clear :)

the craftsman $25 set would have been an EBay purchase.

yeah, I already have a 145 piece Craftsman set from way back when. It didn't come with 1/2" SAE deep sockets.

great banter, let's keep it jovial. the reason there is a market for any type of tool whether it be Snap-On, Craftsman, or Pittsburgh or your local PepBoys is that people have different needs and different budgets.

I do want to say that I prefer to support American companies, but there are times where it just doesn't make sense. If I can buy an American made toy vs a Chinese made toy for my 6 mth old daughter, I go American. If it comes down to a $4 Socket set and a $25 socket set or even a $270 socket set, for the purpose it serves, the $4 socket wins.

Have a great day!!!

I don't see any reason to lock the thread, unless some one gets out of control...which usually happens.

Haha, gotcha. I was thinking you were talking about some crazy mechanics set or something I didn't know about. I usually ignore Snap On. My bad.

I agree. Like I said, these are a great bargain for anyone on a budget. For me, if I needed another set of sockets, I would grab them and throw them in the car or something. You know, come to think of it, my wife could use a set in her car and maybe for the house, haha. I just won't be replacing anything in my box with them any time soon is all.

didn't mean to get some peoples dander up but just wanted to pass on what I thought was a good deal. If we really wanted to put it to China, Taiwan and Japan we should all just quit buying TV's, Radios, Digital cameras, Epiphone Guitars, Fender Standard Stratocasters and car audio. A set of 2.97 cent sockets that Blow away Kobalts USA line isn't worth arguing over. Buying a set of 250 dollar Snap-On sockets to throw in a trail or road box just take the money away from other places that you would have spent that money like taking the wife out to dinner and keeping the money right in your own community. Despite the COO even HF tools keeps many Americans working. Even the ones at HF.

No point in arguing there. Good points. I buy Craftsman mostly because it's what I grew up on, and I haven't seen any reason to stop buying them. BTW, Craftsman keeps Americans working all the way from when they are made to when I buy them at Sears.

You won't catch me spending the money on Snap On any time soon either.

Stop showing off HF junk. I'm sick off all these threads about HF's cheap *** tools. What's next is someone going to show off some US General toolbox loaded with HF ****? :lol_hitti
Ok, I got got banned for a day, because I called myself a ***** on this thread??? :lol_hittiAnyway, some of you got the joke, but I guess others did not. So just to clear the air, I AM TOTALLY GAY FOR HARBOR FREIGHT, and glad to see more people coming out of the HF closet.

Are you the kind of guy that would give Harbor Freight a reach-a-round?

Don't get caught on the streets sucking d&*k for harbor freight tools!

i snapped a few pics of the $5 set i picked up. There are a couple shots next to a Snap on, and a couple shots next to a SK. The Snap on has some use on it, the SK has never been used. The flaking chrome on the SK you see is just a result of being stored in the plastic.

Give it a few months.... i opened up some of the China made impact sockets HF had. They were the kinda of socket you laugh at and put back on the shelf. horrible finish, off center on pretty much everything. absolute junk. If HF really does close out the Taiwan stuff, i think a lot of peoples love affair will be over.

Thanks for posting those pictures! There's VERY little deformation, IF any, on that drive end... 20 seconds of impacts from that IR gun?

I'd say that's one of the best $2.97 you've spent!

Most of the chrome flakes are off the lugnut. Just didn't want to clean it up before I shot the photos.

Thanks for sharing these tests. I like to read about this cheap HF stuff, positve or negative. You never know when your gonna need that limited-use tool, and you don't want to spend big bucks for a "good" brand. Nice to be able to search here and find what's good and what's junk.

I'm not gay for HF yet... just HF-curious.
