2 car garage-"Space saver"

Hello everyone. This is my garage. Nothing elaborate. Just my 2 car attached. I'm going to do everything I can to save space. So here's the start of it. We bought the house brand new July 2010. Only the exterior walls were insulated and drywalled, so I insulated and drywalled the rest after running one more outlet (since there were only 2 on the walls and one for the garage door opener). I'm pretty sure they are only 15 amp outlets, but my mitre saw ran fine on one and that's probably the most powerful tool I have, so I think it will be fine. It was my first drywall job, so it's not even close to perfect, but it's good enough for me. At this point the pics can explain the rest of what's done so far.

At this point I plan to add a stationery work bench, a fold down work bench, and plenty of wall tool storage. And the freezer will be in there when we get one. I'm waiting until spring to epoxy the floor. Does anyone know if the QuickCrete stuff is any good? That's what I picked up along with some clear coat.

Feel free to comment, question, or make suggestions (especially for the upcoming projects).

I'm assuming I should epoxy the floor first before putting the rubber wall trim on?

That looks great! The nice thing about garage work is that it's a good way to learn carpentry/cabinet/flooring skills without having to beat yourself up when it's not house quality.

With a two-car, I think it's important to plan things out so you're not wasting your space. The shelves (or cabinets) up high are a good idea. You can look at the thread in my signature for more ways to fit a lot into a small space.

I like the soffit cabinets. That would be otherwise wasted space. I plan on running them the long sides of my garage, from the ends of the garage door tracks to the far walls. Every inch of space in storage is a bonus. Your looking good!!

That looks like a good plan, definately take a look at jacks garage if you haven't already, he really does have some great space saving techniques. I stole some of his ideas. I'm working with what looks like the same amount of space you have.

Here's my Sketchup plan for mine, maybe you can steal some of my ideas. Good luck man!

Freezer? 15 amp outlets? I like to wire my freezers and refrigerators on dedicated 20 amp circuits. Nothing worse than opening a freezer that stopped running three weeks ago.

Your garage looks like a nice space - bigger than the 2 car garage my builder called a 2 1/2 car when we were looking.

I'm assuming I should epoxy the floor first before putting the rubber wall trim on?

That's definitely the way to go. No experience with the product you bought but I know that one thing holds true for all floor coatings - prep is everything. Take the time and spend the money to rent a concrete grinder and prep your floor before you even think about applying product.

Our house was new construction - vehicles never went in the garage before I used Rust Oleum EpoxyShield Pro 4 years ago. I acid etched twice, did some spot sanding, etc. and now I'm starting to get pieces that are chipping off.

Very true. I get to learn. My wife even asked when I was going to start the basement. I don't think I have quite enough experience (or time) for that yet though. I've definitely stood in the garage just staring, and trying to visualize what I want to do, but it's so hard to see everything, so I'm taking it one step at a time to see what dirrection i want to go next. And I have seen yours. I'll most likely end up with a very similar fold down bench.

I bought stuff to do that exact same thing with the garage door tracks, but It should have been something I just did without asking my wife her opinion. Maybe one day.

Looking good. Rule #1 on the GF is, get the garden tools out of the garage! :)

Sorry. I had to give her a little corner.

Good call. Glad you were able to catch that. Any ideas on how to run the 20 amp outlet? Breaker box is in the basement. I think I can figure it out.

How much would it be worth to replace those lights with 4' flourecent? Should I go 8'? $17 each vs. $37 each. I think the 4's would do fine.

More light is almost always better. Think about how the light will be blocked by open hoods and doors when you position your fixtures ... regardless of the size of the fixtures.

GARDEN TOOLS!!! My number one headache (and 2 motorcycles) taking up my shop. Once the snow melts, operating shed will commence.

The 4' lights would go right up to the garage door when it's open, and the 8' lights will be half blocked if the garage door is open. I think I might just go with the 4 footers.

I ended up deciding to do the basement after all. So everything had to go in the garage until the basement is done. Since it was going to be a $h1t ton of money to have someone else do it.:(

I'm having fun with it though.....
