You are doing exactly what I' leaning towards doing (Quikcrete from HD an renting a floor grinder to prep). It is between this and VCT......

When are you actually painting the floor? I'll be very interested in your results.
Thanks

All done....

And I am happy with the results. If I have any issues it will be due to my concrete. I noticed a lot of places where the floor came up during my prep phases, it would come up just walking on it or when sprayed. The water seems to get in the cracks/holes then the top 1/10 of an inch or so it brittle and chips away. Before painting I went around with a hammer and broke up all the brittle areas I could find like this. - filled in most of them, one was 2-3 feet across.

Anyway very easy to install, prep is the hardest part for sure.

you got the waterbased kit right? I'd like to see how that turns out, I have a hard time trusting anything waterbased.

It'll be fine. I did mine with valspar (same as quikrete) 5-6 years ago. I weld, grind, torch, plasma, and everything else in my garage, and usually park in it if I don't have a large project going. Not one issue with it, and mine went on to a 55 year old floor that was covered with (literally) an inch of oil/grease/dirt when I started.

I had a lot of help too..

nissiancrawler and/or chrisandnat (or anyone else):
Was your floor prep done with a grinder that had diamond cutters or stones? I went to United Rentals yesterday and they had the Edco with stones for about $100 a day.
My slab is about 5 years old. It is in very good shape however we put a concrete stain on it 4 years ago that is wearing off (no surprise). Would the stone prep be enough?

I didn't grind mine at all. i spent 13 hours with a heated pressure washer, 6 gallons purple power, 2 boxes of TSP, and acid on mine.

I used whatever the beast from home depot came with, it tore up my floor real well - took all of 30 minutes to take 1/8 inch or so off.

What about on a fresh new concrete slab. We poured concrete on July 7. My garage is now erected and dried in. doors are on and I want to epoxy it before driving anything on it. Do I need to grind or etch it or can I just sweep it and epoxy coat it?

I think you just need to wait (60 or 90 days) then do the acid wash. Doubt you need to grind a new surface but I am no pro.

I have an additive for sale that you can add to ANY epoxy system that will get your coating to stick to the concrete, IF there was NO sealer INCLUDING ANY chemical Cure and Seal the day it was poured.

It sells for $7.99 for the additive for ONE gallon of Base Coat. (Generally One per "kit")

This Additive is an ETCHING agent that will do the same as the 'chemical prep' but is added to the base coat.

PM me for a link.
