Although the idea for this rolling storage cart was conceived months ago, it wasn't until this week (and uncharacteristic time off) that I got serious about building it.

The goal was a mobile storage solution to for my electronics tools, parts and supplies. I wanted to only use materials & hardware already on hand. The only purchased items are the HF casters. Also, I wanted it to to be bolt together to make it easier to revise as needed.

I'll start off be admitting I'm a pack-rat.

The top for this was has been in my workshop for at least 14 years. It was a sample sent to me to quote the aluminum edge trim and I (oops) never sent it back to the customer (Sortimo).

The t-slot extrusion used is the last few pieces of from approx about 2000 lbs obtained at least 12 years ago (I work for an aluminum extruder and we pushed 20k lbs of this t-slot through a custom die, but my sales manager didn't actually have an order in hand and the potential customer didn't want it. To avoid having to explain why there was all this extrusion sitting on the shop floor, he asked me and a few other pack rats to 'make it disappear'.

My company uses the red stacking bins for material lot archive storage. Since we're now storing archive samples off site, and the new warehouse won't allow flammable materials (i.e plastic bins), there are hundreds of these red bins available. (later I'll post pics of the pantry storage system I made for Mrs. Imagineer.)

The only part not made by hand in my workshop was the back panel. Last week, I had an 1/8" aluminum project on our water-jet and slipped the back panel cad file into the part nesting nest to use up the remainder of the sheet.

Very cool! I'm a pack rat myself but normally I get pi$$ed seeing my junk taking up space so a phone call to my pack rat friends makes it disappear until the next load lol!
