Can anyone suggest a good 2 jaw puller, the kind that come with the extra piece so you can bolt the two jaws together around what you are trying to remove. A co-worker bought the snap-on set for $500 and it works great, but thats a bit pricey or me at the moment. I see OTC makes a very similar set but not sure about the quality. I need something that can pull hard and not break, will be using it on gears, couplers, and pulleys. I have used the proto set in the past and it was built very robust, but it kept slipping every time I tried using it. I want to know what is working for you guys?

OTC is good as long as you use the proper pieces.

I.E. a countersunk piloting piece against which the nose of the jackscrew sits so you don't trash the nose.

I've cranked down on my 10 or 13 ton 2 jaw OTC on stuff that I later found my 20t press wouldn't move. Didn't skip a beat.

If you have good jaws on the correct tool for the job, most work doesn't need the supporting piece. I guess I may be saying that due to lack of owning one. But get the work started so things are snugged up and again, you shouldn't need it.
