I’m trying to build my garage in two steps

First the 24x30 enclosed garage then the 24x36 boat port

My first question is, can I build the garage first then add in the boat port?

I’m building it pole barn style using metal trusses

2nd if my boat port is going to have 15’ walls In order to fit a 14’ tall door, what height should the walls of my garage be?

Thanks

Need a little more info, like which wall are the door(s) going to be on(end or side) and where the boat shed will be located. But yes you would want or need all the walls to be a uniform height, at least I would.

It’s trivial to do that in two phases. I think the biggest decision you’d have to make is whether to put an overhang on both ends of the garage roof. Knowing you would be taking it back down on one end. To get the original roof properly flashed might take a little finess.

the reason behind doing it in two parts was due to costs.

I can build the 24x30 right now but I don't have the funds to do the rest.

So I was hoping I could just do one then the other down the road.

I am building it pole barn style with a metal roof, So I am not sure if that is going to make the tie in easier later on. Being a metal roof, I can just cut off the 1' over hang

OP add a location to your profile.

Yes, you can do it in two phases. Make the garage roof a normal roof and then modify it when you add the boat storage shed. It may be years before you add the boat shed and you want the garage to look good.

Personally, I would do both at the same time. Concrete work and framing would be easier. Permits and concrete work would be easier on a single phase.

Yes you can absolutely do it in two phases, will just have to pull permits twice. Before you determine a design though, make sure your end design meets all setback and sq footage requirements.

You could also do the concrete work for both at the same time and pour the pad, then do the actual building afterwards. A bit more money but less than doing the whole thing and you have the convenience of all concrete being done and knowing it will look the same, age the same, etc.
