Old fashioned drafting lead holder. They hold 2 mm or 3 mm leads, not the wimpy .5 or .9 of the Pentels. You can get any color and hardness of lead you want, from HB to 6H. The harder leads will hold a sharp point for marking fine joinery as well as a marking knife can, and you can see it. Blue lead is good on dark woods like walnut. I keep several around with different leads.

I found an old drafting pencil sharpener (lead pointer) still in the box at a school auction to use with them.

Eberhard Faber has always been a favorite of mine...made in the good old USA.
Koh-I-Noor is also pretty good...nice thick leads available in colors.

FIRST thing that came to my mind with a #2 pencil lol! You want quality pencils when playing Pencil Break or Pencil War too :D. Like back in elementary school :D. Anybody on here ever play Pencil Break or Pencil War back in the day? I'm 47 and all us boys played it to see who could break the others pencil with their pencil. If you don't know the game I'll explain.

I went through dozens and dozens of pencils playing with my friends back in those school days lol. Great memories having fun. Winning was of course AWESOME!!! :D
I'm only 34, but we were obsessed with this game in Elementary School. We tried every mfg available back then figuring that one of them had to give you an advantage. We even wrote a rule book since we were always coming up with new and ridiculous ways to cheat. After all, when you have little boys playing for lunch money or pudding, sh!t gets serious:willy_nil. I remember frequent arguments over which company made the best pencils for Pencil War. I guess it makes sense, now that we're all older and wiser, we argue about tool quality and mfg's:bounce:.

You are also very right, winning was AWESOME!
