2 post baseplate lift opinions needed

Hey guys,

I am in the market to buy a 2 post lift for my shop. My ceiling height is 139" so I need a baseplate style lift. I have narrowed it down to 2 options.

1. Bendpak XPR-9 which would run about $3300 shipped to my house.

2. 9k lb Mohawk lift. This lift is used and for sale locally for $3500. It is a 1995 model lightly used in a transmission shop. I know these lifts retail for over $6k new and this one looks to be in good condition.

Looking for opinions which way I should go, or if there is another option out there I should consider. Looking to keep the purchase under $3500 total. Any and all opinions are appreciated.

Warrenty? There is not much to go wrong, but I would think about the warrenty. It is always nice to have brand spanking new. Jeff

I know I'm biased, but hands down, I'd go with the Mohawk.

I went with a Mohawk 10K lift. But I bought mine new for just under 6K.

I would go for a Mohawk. You can run the hydro lines how you want and dont have to deal with a cords on the ground.

Take a look at Worth Lifts. American made in Texas and they make a 10k base plate lift. Almost as affordable as Bendpak and much better quality. Mohawk is awesome but very spendy.

A base plate lift is a PIA. Could you cut the ceiling out and have the crossbar go parallel with the ceiling joists?

A Rotary will fit in 139. SPOA10. When you order it, request kit for lowering it to that height. It will work. Best lift by far.

We have 21 Bend-Pak lifts at the school I teach at, they go through so much abuse from the students but with regular maintenance they have never failed us.

+1 on the rotary.When a shop i was at replaced one with a challenger it was the cleanest lift in the shop because no one wanted to use it.

I have a floorplate style. By the title of the post I thought you simply meant "above ground"/surface mount as opposed to an in ground lift...
unless you have a twisted column from a storm or from overloading there isn't much that cant be fixed reasonably on them and no not everything has to come from 'the lift company" case in point the bearings for the carriages and the chains on mine... I didn't need chains but found several sources for that grade and size of chain that is much more reasonable than from the mfr... just because they put their label on it doesn't make the chain better somehow.

but those bearings... I did have to replace those. and a quick check of the number that was on the bearing revealed that they are a very common industrial bearing/ It took a lil doing but I got all of the roller bearings via Ebay for < 20% of the lift company's price

I bought an old Weaver for a song/ a 9K capacity built like a tank.... had this one not come up I was gonna save my pennies for a Mohawk as they are the only thing built close to as heavily as mine is.... a lot bigger foot print for the bottom of the column where it bolts to the floor than most lifts I have seen and that has been many over the years. this is important to distribute the weight over a larger area, means less chance of 'concrete problems"

I totally dismantled this lift rebuilt the cylinders even, also had the whole thing (except the pump motorP sandblasted and powdercoated it looks better than brand new.... I don't have the "in" that I had at the time for the powdercoating as I wouldn't have done so if I would have had to pay "going rate" to have it done
I have a very heavyduty lift for not a lot of money, made in USA when it meant something, for the price I will deal with the floor plate... this is for my own personal use in my own personal garage.... no longer being used commercially as it was by the PO for as much as I will use it the floor plate will not be an issue.

i got the bendpak xl9 which is the same model, its the short model with cables on the ground, but you will still need 12'4 to walk under the car
