Here is a video of my lift that was just installed and some light discussion of My journey. My original idea without a second thought was a 4 post lift. After digging into the lift landfill on google I started thinking harder. I concluded that a 2 post better suited for my shop and my needs. This lift is such a cheap lift it doesn't even have a name painted on it. But a painted on name is really what your paying extra for when you buy a bendpak or a challenger or a tuxedo or whatever. You dont really start separating from the herd until you spend 10 grand or more. From 0 to 10 grand there all the same. Kinda like a bowl of jelly beans, just different colors. Lol

anyway

Here is the video of the installation and me babbling on.

So the outfit you bought this from, DMS Equipment Services, is in Missouri. Where do they get their equipment from? I looked on their website but didn't find much information.

Nice garage, hope your electrician comes soon.

So I cant really answer that question. I dont know. I kinda get the feeling that there are a few warehouses they either own or are linked up to across the country. If i had to guess i would say they are being fed lifts from warehouses that feed lifts to more than one company. Probably all from china truth be told.

I think most 2 post lifts are going to work just fine when they are used near the middle of their capacity. Lot of em out there and nothing in the news about a lot of people being hurt by them. When you start lifting really heavy vehicles like my son's Megacab Diesel, I would put tall jack stands under all four corners. I have an American made Rotary 10,000lb lift......and when I lift big vehicles I use stands too. We had a couple of stands where you put pins thru holes. We drilled two additional holes at a height that fit under the rear frame of the truck when lifted. Then we bought two Harbor Freight adjustable stands ($79 on sale). We put them under the front and adjust until there is a little weight touching the rear stands. Really stable setup. My son and another friend of mine both have "overseas" made lifts. They both work well. When I lift my wifes RAV, or my 2000 Silverado, I don't worry about stands. The Megacab Diesel, I use stands no matter what lift its on.

Yes. I agree. The big jack stands are a must for me. I like the comfort that comes with extra stability.

I'm sorry but your statement about no quality difference on lifts costing less then 10k is just not true. Do they all do the same job... sure. But to compare a no name 10k lift that cost 1800 bucks from China to a 10 rotary or challenger that cost 5k and say the quality is the same is just plain ignorant..

Pump, motor, weld quality, material grade, seals, part availability in years to came, column design, and customer service. Again many low tier lifts are 100 percent sufficient and I would work under most certified ones iv seen but I have seen one or two 10k lifts that look wimpy compared to my uncle's 7k rotary and not even close to my cl10v3

Any just for clarification, you lift does not look like it falls into the sub par quality group that I would not want to work under.

I think that my point was misunderstood. Or maybe I didnt choose my words correctly. Regardless i think what your getting around to arguing for is indeed the point i intended to make. That is that there is a distinct seperation between the caliber of lifts below and above a certain price point. Roughly the 10000 dollar and up lifts are distinctly different than those below that price point. Now obviously there are even variations of build quality the cheaper you go. But that was the point I was trying to make. I do think that the norm in this lower price point class is to have a cheaper quality lift made from china. I dont actually make the leap though that all things chinese are junk. I think my phone is pretty awesome. And my laptop. Subarus are made in japan. There awesome cars . Hondas are great to. I'd love a world where I could support my country and everything was american made but the reality is that world doesnt really exist anymore. Anyway. I'm rambling. That really didnt have anything to do with anything. Been a long day. Lol

I don't think all things Chinese produced products are junk, BUT....Just about all non-certified automotive lifts with overrated weight capacities come from China.

Does yours have 3x3/4x4 square tubing welded to the Carriages for the lift arm mounts/pins?

I'll agree that just because things are not made in the USA does not mean they are junk.

But your price point is way off, there is way less difference in quality and safety at max capacity between a 4 thousand dollar bendpak or 5 thousand dollar rotary and a 11 thousand dollar mohawk then there is between the bendpak or rotary and the 1800 dollar Chinese special.

There are lots of people who come to gj to research what lift to buy and misleading statements like all lifts under 10k dollars is very unhelpful.

Ok. Well. Then we disagree. It's not a crisis. I think your wrong and you think I'm wrong. Some people drive over the speed limit. Some people drive with there flashers on and go really slow. Nobody has robbed anyone of there birthday . People can make up there own mind. Changes nothing. All the lifts under approx.10000 dollars are decidedly different from those that are over. Yall can decide for yourselves. Doesnt mean you should just buy the first cheap lift you find. But it does mean you might pay extra money for a lift with a name painted on it in big letters. Versus a potentially better lift with no name painted on it for less money. People come here to read such debates and make up there own minds. They come to see pictures and videos and to get ideas or confirm ones they already had. They to might be rolling there eyes at what I say or what you say. But there not losing any sleep over it.

And from the sound of it we wont be loosing any sleep either. I'll second your notion of agreeing to disagree.
