I am in the process of building a new house and I would like to have a 2 post lift in my garage. I had originally planned on the bendpak-9F. But after talking to my builder he is saying that the lift is 6" too tall and the roofline would have to be altered and change the look of the house. So what other lifts out there have you guys used for a standard height home garage and still made it fit. The bendpak is 128" tall so I need something less than 122" I guess. By the way great forum and a great resource.

If you have a low ceiling height and you really want a two post lift. Take a look at Mohawk. I own their System I 10,000 capacity lift. The height of the columns is only 103” and has no top or bottom cross members. Only two 3/8" diameter tubing that can be run at any height or buried into the concrete floor. However you’ll have to dig a bit deeper in your pockets for one…

I will have to double check, but i believe the ceiling height is 10ft. He would be able to raise the ceiling somewhat but I guess the 6 extra inches would mean he would have to install different trusses(sp?) and therefore it would change the roofline.

I thought about the "pit" but I'm afraid it would restrict some movement around the work area, plus with my luck I would probably end up tripping and breaking my legs.
what if you had the floor poured with a 6" recess in the footprint of the lift? not a "pit", but just deeper for it to sit down in. then you wouldn't have the lower cross piece to trip over either. then if youre worried about tripping, install a cover plate to make up whatever difference there is

That would be an option. Maybe that's what Danglerb meant with the "pit". I looked at the Mohawk lift that Oldcarguy recommended, but it's a bit more than I want to spend. I'm in the middle of a car restoration that is bleeding me dry. Maybe the lift is not where I should save but I just can't bring myself to spend mohawk money.
Which lift model do you have? All the ones I can find are 143" or taller.

Just throwing suggestions.. I have SP-7X and can do pretty much everything with it. No posts on a way and I park on it when not using. I have 9ft ceiling regular 2 car garage. In my case 2 post would render 2nd stall useless.
I like the alternative you are offering. In my case though, it won't work. I plan on using it to lift entire carbodies off of frames......car resto thing. Getting sick of having to have 4 people over everytime I have to lift body off of frame. 2 post lift would solve that for me. Like the suggestion though.

I like to have 2 post lift as well. But we have what we have.. Next time I get bigger garage - I may go with even 4 post. depends where my hobby will shift. Working or collecting
