2 post lift installation help

Hey GJ,

Bought a used Challenger 10k VS10 and I started installing it. The installation measurements state that it should be 138" from side to side. I am setting it up asymmetrical.

I chalked off 138" on the floor and got the posts up. I put a couple anchors in one side then put the crossbar up leaving the second post undrilled. To get the crossbar to fit it wants the far post to come in about an inch off the line I have setup. The post is plumb and the crossbar is in the correct wide config. Should I be concerned? or just drill the post and forget about it?

The attached pic just shows the asym setup and 138" width that you can't really read. right now my lift wants to be at about 137"

I wouldn't have drilled anything unless the lift was totally put together. Plumb the posts with the structure all together and then drill. I'd move the other post where the structure wants it, to heck with your line.

Just drill it and forget it. One inch difference will not matter.

Yeah I didn't drill anything for a bit but wanted to put an anchor in after trying to put the crossbar up. I was just afraid of of toppling a post trying to put the crossbar on and dropping the other side off the post. It was just me putting it up on scaffolding so I didn't have anyone on the other side to help keep it on. All sorts of bad scenarios were running through my head.

I am thinking the same thing though just let it be where it wants to be and drill it.

I put mine up a few days ago and didn’t anchor it first. Matter fact I still haven’t, had some stuff come up so haven’t been in the shop for a week.

Which version is that? nice looking lift.

It’s a model 39000 , I bought it new in 2001, when I moved the guy that bought my old house didn’t want it so I took it down. Just getting around to getting it installed.

Ended up only being ~ 3/4" off when all done. I double checked the post i anchored and it was leaning back a bit so I fixed that and it pushed the far post out a bit more. Seems all good.

Glad you got it installed, wish I could get that far. Hopefully today I get the holes drilled and start getting shims in.

Ok got everything in and now trying to run power. There is no coil or contactor that came with it. The guy I bought it from just said they hard wired it. All I have is 220v in, the switch wires, the overhead switch wires and the motor leads. I am not sure how to wire this up. The wiring diagram lists some sort of 220v coil. Any help would be appreciated on how to get this thing wired up.

Either they removed the contactor set because it broke or are using a different power pack that doesn’t use one. Here is how mine is wire without a contactor.

If they just wire around it, you really should make sure the button switch is rated for the motor size.

Gotcha they must have wired it this way. In the manual i downloaded it had a solid state relay. Though I am not sure how it is actually beneficial with both sides being 120v and they switch taking full amperage.

I will check the ratings I know the push switch is rated but not sure about the overhead.

The overhead switch should be fine after looking at your diagram, it was designed to have one leg ran through it.

Yup there is no lower voltage. That's what confused me when I saw the relay in the wiring diagram. Why use it if it is just regular voltage? Are they using it to cut both legs with the switch is off?

No it’s still only cutting one leg off according to that diagram.

Up and running! I wired it as posted with one leg through the switch then the overhead switch and to the motor. Its working well. Thanks all.

I sure wish I could find a used Challenger VS10 or Quality Q10000. Shop mate left my space and kept the Quality Q10000. I left the floor bolts thinking I'd just order a new Q10, but the Q10 and Q10000 have different base plate bolt patterns.

I see you want a Challenger. But have you seen these Bendpak's on Craigslist?
