2-post lift placement - side clearance question

Having my lift against the wall it is always in the back of my head that if the car ever fell off the lift my escape options for that side would be less than ideal.

This is why on my lift the pump is on the post away from the walls. And there is a "kill" switch right at the pump.

I intend to do this also, for the same reasons. I've looked at the lift manual and parts list, and the Challenger CL10V3 sure looks symmetrical to me - other than the lift arms. The two lift carriages have the same part number, etc. So i'm planning on installing the lift "backward" and putting the lift arms on "forward" so that the controls and motor are away from the wall. Don't see any reason this wouldn't work just fine, but I haven't checked with Challenger yet.

I think if a vehicle is going to fall, it's most likely to do so during the initial lift. If it falls when it's up there, all bets are off...
