I don't know Jack-Diddly about lifts but since I'm in the Metro-Atlanta area and Greg Smith has a location here, I'll be looking hard at the Atlas PV10 when I build my shop in a couple of years.

GSE prices seem very competitive and the company appears to be well set up to provide parts and support after the sale.

I was going to get either the PRO-9F or PV10 myself, until I found a used Rotary I couldn't pass up. I may still end up buying something from Greg Smith some day, but for now I'm happy with what I have.

You really can't go wrong for the price. The best bet is to go down to their show room and check it out yourself. The PV-10 is pretty dam beefy. The feel of the lift don't seem as refined as compared to the Rotary, but I'm sure its plenty capable. I'm assuming you'd be heading down to the Indy location. I even met Greg Smith in person there, he seemed like a pretty good guy.

It's a buyers market right now on lifts. so many dealers going under that lifts are really cheap. Just look for a decent brand like rotery, western, mohawk, atlas, amcco.

I must have caught him on a bad day. I couldn't believe some of the stuff he was saying. He did not make a good impression on me at all. I drove down from Western Michigan with a wad of cash and my flatbed trailer in tow.

I left empty handed and had a Mohawk delivered days later.

Talk to some of the places that do installs and see what they have used in premium shape. I've seen "nice" Rotary and Mohawks here in SoCal sell for $500 or less when a shop goes under.

I spoke with Greg smith when his other associates couln't answer my question and he was a real jerk. Hung up on me after I asked him why his lifts aren't put to the same test as his comparison to "competitor's lift" in which a video is shown on the Greg Smith website in which an unknown competitors lift is tested to 1.5 times the rated capacity and falls apart. They don't do a similar test on their lifts, so how can I know if their lifts are any better? I don't.

I must admit that most of the threads about Atlas lifts and Greg smith (the company) are mostly favorable, but it bothers me that their lifts are not ALI certified and put to basic safety tests. I am looking to buy a 2-post baseplate 9000lb lift. I have narrowed it to either the Atlas BP-9000 or the Forward BP-9. Both are very similar in features and capacity but the Forward is ALI certified so I know it is a good lift. Unfortunately it costs almost twice what the Atlas lift costs, so I'm not sure what to do at this point.

If it was me I would go with the foward. I have a 2 post 10,000 lbs. that I bought used from dealership that went out of business and love it. It was only two years old and the paint was not even worn off the arms. They are certified and basically a rotary with a different sticker.

Rotary is tough to beat. even used rotary are beefy. tons of parts support too for older lifts. im trying to pick one up for 1k range to put in my home garage.

at work i got an ammco lift through napa last year to replace my way old school in ground single post air over hydraulic lift.

the one thing i like about it is the 3 position telescoping arm, as opposed to the standard 2 position. having the ability to extend/shrink that forward arm helps out alot on various wheelbases. all the other bays have standard 2 position arms. i got the cadillac.

I just had a Challenger EL-10 installed a couple of weeks ago. Clears my 12' ceiling by about 1/4" (Bend-Pak wouldn't). So far, so good. ALI certified, and this model seems to be a popular choice for the local new car dealerships.

I just wish I'd been in a position to do it years ago.

I couldn't be happy with my Rotary. You need 11'8" headroom.

Actually U need just 11'. Any experienced Rotary installer can shorten the columns on their 10k units so the top bar and columns fit under an 11' ceiling. The cylinders still need to rise up another 6-8" but can just poke thru the ceiling between the joists if you have the space. That is how mine was just installed.

I love my Greg Smith lift but will never buy another thing from him after the way I was treated when the transmission jack I bought didn't work right out of the box and when it was returned as I'd been told to do so as to get a replacement (well within the warranty period) he refused to replace it and merely provided a baggie of parts.

Well, that and his telling me his policy is that the customer is not always right.

I'm looking at a Challenger 2 post lift. You still like yours? Any regrets at all?
