2 post lift thoughts please!

Previously posted in the wrong section I guess as I only got one reply, I would think I could get quite a few knowledgeable people's thoughts! Anyway, I want to get a decent lift without breaking the bank. Can't stomach a new BendPak, Rotary, or Challenger now. Was looking at Direct Lifts (made by Dover, same manufacturer as Rotary I believe). Definitely clearfloor/overhead lines and asymmetric. Should I be looking for asymmetric posts also or are the symmetric posts and asymmetric arms ok?

Was thinking about <a href="http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Atlas-PV-10P-p/atpk-pv10p.htm">this</a> one.

I think the Danmar ones are made by the same as Bendpak and can save you $$.. I have a std. no name floor plate symmetric for 10 yrs now.. nothing special.. works great.. I am almost done with adding on to my shop and have an asymmetric Bendpak and a 4 post Bendpak sitting here, waiting to be put up after the epoxy is done.. soon I hope.. I think asymmetric is the way to go, since it can be used both ways..

I've got a Direct Lift 8K clear floor 2 post and it's been pretty great so far.

Without physically seeing/touching both the bendpak and the dannmar, by looking at the specs the only difference is the certification. Dannmar is a sister company of Bendpak. Guess the certification is worth 500-800 to some ppl.
For a home lift, just go with a well known name. You can goto ALI and see which ones are certified. If you plan on lifting close to the limit of the lift, go certified. Go Bendpak ($2700 for the XPR-10ACX)

Thanks for all the great input guys. After much contemplation, I think I'm going to go w/the Direct Lift Pro V10. Seems a good bit beefier than the 9k's and only a couple hundred more. Also considering the Danmar D-10ACX for another couple hundred more. Will report back once it's in.

Just bought an atlas PV-10P from Greg Smith Equipment. Nice lift and a good price around 2000. thats a 10,000 pound lift and they have a good website with lots of info. Phone help is a real person, and they are knowledgeable.

Biggest thing would probably be a 3/4 ton, ext cab, longbed pickup. I really like the Danmar D-10ACX, it's $200 more than the Atlas PV-10P but free freight, so it equals out, if not a little cheaper.

Check Crag's list for your area. I picked up a 7,000 2 Post Asymetrical Gilbarco lift for $500.00. I replaced all the hoses and a few mechanical parts and repainted it. I got about $800.00 in it all together.

I'm also lift shopping. I'm really only going to lift sports cars at home at around 2500-3500 lbs. Can I get by with one of the Greg Smith 1500 lifts? Does being so under the limit buy me any reliability? Do the more expensive ones have any more value than durability and longevity? Are there safety concerns?

Another question for the installation. My current floor has 24" footers but I will only get about half the post over those footers, the other half will be 3-4" pour, all at 3000psi. Is this going to be sufficient? If I can get the majority of the holes in the 24" footers, would getting longer slugs be a good alternative? I'm going to do some test drills to measure for sure. Am I weakening the structure by drilling the test holes?

Sorry for so many questions. I'm thinking of talking this out with Greg Smith sales people but don't want them to try to make my situation work just to sell a lift.

I realize this post is old but I am looking for information on a Gilbarco/Manitowoc 7k lift. I would love an installation guide but even what the closest point from foot pad to foot pad would answer my question. Thanks, Jeremy

I may be able to help, I think that Gilbarco is a rebranded Wheeltronic lift like my Bear/Snap-On. I have several manuals for the different variations, PM me and I can email the pdf's.

I am going on the fact that the top bar raises with the lift, and the extention feet on the base. Only lift I've seen like that is the Wheeltronic's...

Nice lifts, you'll need a crowsfoot to tighten the hydraulic line that runs through the upper beam, and there is a special procedure for leveling the arms with the various hydraulic valves...

I bought a Direct Lift. It's actually labeled as Rotary on the data plate. Looked into all the others, and Direct Lift was easily the best choice for me. Bought from Shop Equipment USA here in northern CA. Very good experience with them, including the install.

Personally I'd prefer a scissors type lift but suppose up to the user and what ya need!

Hmm... I just bought a 9000# Manitowoc that looks EXACTLY like your Gilbarco. I presume they are pretty much the same lift.

Mohawks are probably the best you can buy now but like you said, "BIG" money. Manitowoc aren't made anymore but I'm sure they were very comparable to Mohawk in quality and price.

I love my Challenger. It's not cheap, but I believe they are the best. Also, mine is made in USA, and I like that.
