2 post limit switch wiring question

The electrican that wired my Forward I10 lift didn't wire in the limit switch. I got a real good deal on the electrical in the new shop so no complaints. I haven't had a vehicle up high enough to trip the limit switch but it would be good to have just in case. My question is can I run a 12/2 cable from the limit switch down into the box and wire it between the lift switch and a 110 wire? My finger is touching the 2 wires i'm asking about seperating in the photo.

I have used the cable from inexpensive new extension cords to repair or replace the wiring on limit switches installed on trash compactors and cardboard balers. Worked fine and lasted a long time.

If its direct wire, you should also have a manual cutoff switch by the lift. (There are other good threads on the site about the code and reasons why that's important.)

I recommend checking the instructions for your lift, but I expect that your cutoff swich and limit switch would be wired through the connection you are pointing to.

Check the owners manual for your lift.
Power should go to a 2 pole disconnect switch first.
Then to the limit switch where the limit switch is in series with one of the legs.
Finally a cable from the limit switch goes to the junction box on the motor unit.

I have a 2 gang box mounted to the side of my lift. Power goes to this box first.
My 2 pole disconnect is in this box. Power then goes to the limit switch and finally to the motor junction box.
It's all in conduit.

Before I purchased the lift I had read on here about a kill switch multiple times so that was included in my wiring plan. My panel is 35' away with a vehicle to get around so having a kill switch was mandatory. I was thinking outside the box with my question to avoid adding another junction box and having to hack up the existing wiring.

If I understood your original question, it appeared you want to run the limit switch cable into the motor junction box. It’s a small box and adding another cable in there would not be the best plan.

Reroute the MC cable from the motor JB up to the limit switch. Add a new piece of MC from limit switch down to motor JB.

I would have to double check on mine, but I believe you break the black wires by your finger with the limit switch.

i.e. undo that wire nut then each wire gets a leg of the limit switch wire so power goes through it until the circuit is broken.

Thats how mine is.
