I know this has been discussed a lot... but, I need some validation on where to put my lift.

30x40x14 building - the middle bay is a straight shot in from the driveway, the two side bays have a 20' pad in front of them - so think of it as a t shaped arrangement on the pad. Right bay with the small door is for lawn equipment, etc.

Part of me says left bay so that the lift is out of the way. Part of me says middle bay since it is a straight shot from the driveway should I need to push a car in or have it dropped by a wrecked and would not be limited by room on the side. I was thinking dead center for front to back placement, largest vehicle is a full size pickup. My daily driver/project car will live in here as well.

Thoughts or experiences or hindsight from your projects?

A few things to consider: is your lift symmetrical or asymmetrical? It matters, because an asymmetrical lift will have approximately 70% of the vehicle behind the columns. Lifting trucks on an asymmetrical, they are pulled in farther.

Also, do you plan on having toolboxes or a workbench in the front? If yes, you need to be able to open drawers and stand in front of them.

If you ever plan on pulling axles, you will need decent side clearance. I wouldn’t want my lift too close to a side wall.

Should have added, I have a three bay as well. Decided to put my lift in the middle and love the side room. Glad I didn’t go against a wall.

Same advice as Gizardlizard says...

Put it in the middle bay.
If it's an assymetrical lift, move it "foward of center" a couple of feet.
Pay attention to where the garage door is when in the open position. You'll probably want to work on the vehicle when up on the lift, with the garage door open.

Middle. Parking lifts go to the sides whereas working lifts go in the middle.

I might even consider downsizing those doors a bit. 8' door is real big for lawn equipment (but I see the virtue of sizing it that way to allow a car to be put there in the future) but the single 10' doors are almost overkill. I have 9' doors and can get some very wide stuff in with no issues.
