Hi from Idaho. We recently moved here from SoCal and building a new home in Eagle, but I'm more excited about my 2-car + RV garage. It's going to be a lot of space for me and my projects... and I'll have plenty building new furniture for the house, installing new mods on my FJ Cruiser and organizing the new work shop. We'll hopefully be breaking ground in a few weeks.

Going to be nice. If you cut a door between the RV Garage and Bedroom #5 you suddenly have a nice shop office or heated work space. Even if you don't do it when you build you might want your contractor to frame one in so if you change your mind it will be easy to open up. If you do make sure your electrician runs any cable up and over.

I like Bib's idea. Plus, it's so simple to frame in that the cost wouldn't be much.

It's a great idea, although that's the wife's workout room, so it's already claimed. We're locked into the design now and I can't make any changes at this point. It's not an entirely custom home build.

I do plan on building a staircase and loft at the rear of the RV garage with the wood/workshop downstairs and my t-shirt and decal production in the loft.

Looks Great! I would agree with Bib, just pay them cash and go buy the header beam for bedroom #5 and have them set it with the additional jack studs. You will not regret it... ever. Also, I pondered length for years before I settled on 40ft. I recommend at least kicking the front out to 40ft. if not 42ft. Your design significantly limits the size of RV you can fit, and even if you wanted to stay at 33ft, it is nice to be able to walk around the RV without moving it.

Looks like an amazing project. if you can afford the extra 1K for the engineering change and probably 3K in materials, you wont regret it...

I wish I could I can't make changes now since the permits are about to be pulled. Heck I don't even own a RV trailer yet, but when we do get one it will be a light weight trailer towed behind our 4Runner or FJ. The max length would be 20'. I'll just need to work with it. Excited nonetheless.

subscribed... love these RV garage houses, possible new trend? Or have they always been around? Zoning is probably very specific to newer suburbs with bigger lots

RV garage houses are common in retirement areas like Phoenix etc.

They're popular around here because of Idaho RV owners of all ages love the outdoors. New home communities are offering all kinds of floorplans with optional RV garages. Lots of new homes for reasonable prices being built here.

We got footings and stem walls! The garage/driveway slabs and framing are up next.

Looks good so far.

And I see your neighbors have already taken care of your fencing needs, good deal! :D

Thanks, the home builder actually does the fencing. All I need is the right side fencing and I'm good to go.

Do they do basements in that area? My wife and I considered leaving the Phoenix area if not other than a change of scenery. Of course, we would not move into an HOA community again as I run a small business.
Like the house and congratulations! We always loved building new. Traded them in like an old pair of sneakers!! Now we bought a little over an acre and it's harder to think about letting that one go unless it gets upgraded to a larger lot. I see your plan shows four bathrooms but I only see three?

Thanks. I didn't see any basement options when looking at various developers. I agree it would be hard to leave an acre, but there are larger lots up here. There's an option for a bedroom suite downstairs with it's own bathroom.

Interesting that all the flatwork was poured this early. It's challenging to keep all the trades off the driveway prior to possession. Will you get done in time for Thanksgiving?

I was thinking the same. When we built my house, the garage floor was poured shortly before sheet rock & the driveway was dead last. Well, actually grass was dead last.

Looks good though, they are cruising right along!

We're talking Idaho here. The next three or four months will be lest than optimum for placing concrete. Contractor friend of mine in Illinois always had a couple of foundations in the ground by Thanksgiving so he could finish them out during the winter.

As far as I know, this is how they do it at this development and so far the other houses look great and no complaints. It should be finished sometime in January.

We had our friends update us on the progress of our home build, because we were away to Yellowstone NP.

You got the room and know you always gonna have an RV for the near future so it's a great idea to park it inside out of the elements as well not outside for neighbours to complain about. Even still if you choose to park it elsewhere, it's a decent size shop. Hope it's wired for such.

Another reason of the RV garage is due to many subdivisions that have HOA's whine about people parking their RV in their driveway. Have the garage attached to the house and pull the RV in and they can't see it and therefore can't whine and cry about it.

Your house plans look great, and welcome to Idaho from another Idaho member.

Where are you stating while the new place is being built?

Looks real nice, congrats.

Why did you choose Idaho?

Thanks. We're in nearby apartments during the build. We got tired of the California rat race and expensive living in SoCal. It's nice to be able to drive around town and still have "country" or rural areas. The outdoors is very accessible and close as well. So far Idaho was the right choice. We can't wait to start living in our new home.

Probably because it's NOT Kalifornia.:bounce:

What he said ^ :D

The way the roof is he would lose height if he made it longer to the front. Might not be able to pull an RV in there with a lower door.

More progress. The RV garage wall was constructed and ready to move into place. The second floor is done and the stairs are ready to go in. The covered patio/deck footings were poured. The roof trusses are onsite.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you mind if I ask where in Idaho?

Sorry, but I'm stuck in NJ, so I have to ask questions about places I like.

That's 1 of 2 footings for the covered patio/master bedroom deck. It's huge.
