No racing today but drying of the salt is slowly taking place. The director just announced this evening that first runs won’t take place until Tuesday and only a shortened single course will be used. The long course normally with timing all the way through mile five will only be timed to mile 4 for faster cars. Rookies will have up to mile 2 and vehicles normally on the short course will have us to mile 3. Runs will be first come first served on the one course.
I’ll be on the road back home so will miss out on racing but hope many can get their runs in.

Here’s a few more from my last day on the salt(Monday). Racing actually started on today, Tuesday but as I listened from the web during my day of driving course conditions were less than ideal. 277 runs were made but all were 20-70 mph slower than established records. Only 6 vehicles are in impound tonight for return runs Wednesday morning. A few cars spun out and some Moto riders fell. The long course was shut down late afternoon and they are supposed to move timing equipment over to fresh salt for tomorrow.
Hoping it will bring a better day of speed.
MG-A built from a rusty shell to this in a year and a half. Runs a built LS engine.

A brave person to get his cool hot rod caked up with salt. Can’t say I’d be doing it with mine.
Worlds fastest Freightliner. 228 mph with a 16 cylinder blown diesel making 3000+ HP. It has to push a lot of air to make that happen.

You bet! I’m hooked and loved going again even with the wet conditions and lack of racing. It was actually good for the few spectators because teams had more down time to talk about their cars and answer questions. Everyone is always friendly but those first few days were less busy.
I have a new disease!
This came in the mail today. I told myself a bunch of time not to buy this and not to dream the impossible dream but got home and could not resist at least checking the rules to see if I could actually dream to build a car that can race on the salt. So here goes, yet another bucket list idea to work on. Step one will be to read this and do some research to see what it would actually take to build a car that passes tech. Hoping I can make the drag car something that I can convert to LSR racing in a class that fits it well.

Those are some very cool rides. So we're signing up for next year?
It would take a lot of work and energy to be ready for 2020 but maybe the following year realistically if I can make consistent progress and spend the bucks. Some things that are nice to have for the drag strip are mandatory for Bonneville. The biggest change so far will be an acceptable roll cage.

Family Vacation
I just spent 10 wonderful days in Scotland with all my children. It was their present to me from Christmas last year and they planned it all out and paid for all expenses except my plane fare to get there and home. It was the best time of making good family memories ever. What a wonderful country it is. We enjoyed the people, the history, the sights and sounds and of course the food.
A few pics of highlights:
One of many wonderful B&B’s we stayed at. This one in the country side near Glencoe.
We tasted lots of great Scotch Whiskley including this while touring the Dalwhinnie Distillery.
Ate and drank in local pubs including this one which had live traditional music playing.
Toured the William Wallace Memorial and saw his actual sword on display which was made in the 1300’s. It’s a real 2 hander and 168 cm long. What a beast!
Toured Edinburgh Castle and got to attend the Royal Military Tattoo. Not soldiers getting new ink. But rather a spectacular show featuring Scottish bands and others from around the world.
I thought of 1/2 Cup and a past discussion on his thread about Bundaberg when I found this in a local street store. It was very tasty.
And in search of local garage activity I saw a lot of sheds this typical size. Boy would I ever have to sell stuff if I moved to the UK. I could fill this one up with just tool boxes. Forget parts and projects.

I've been through there one time and I was raised in SLC.

Normally I’m not that much of a long distance traveler but my kids all live west of Michigan so it requires a few trips each year. Last year was my first time at Bonneville and I’m now completely hooked. I plan to be back there in 2020 again as a spectator. My youngest child lives in SLC so that trip get me quality time with family and LSR racing all in the same trip.
I definitely have your place on my bucket list for someday. Not sure when I’ll get to SoCal next but if the opportunity comes up I’ll be sure to contact you ahead and see if I can get a tour.
So much interesting history in Scotland. That WW sword was a real beast and I can’t imagine him swinging that thing in a very long battle. But somehow he did.
Saturday Project - Intake Upgrade for the F150
I decided to give my F150 some upgrades this year and the first is a new Cold Air Intake. I bought one of these for the drag race Mustang and the parts seemed good quality for the price and have performed well so I ordered the same brand for the truck.
I will warn you if buying this kit that the parts themselves seem well made but the packaging is not the best. I first ordered this in July and the first kit arrived with the box open and all the hardware, nuts and bolts missing. Has to send it back and order a replacement kit. It came more intact and will all the parts included but with wrong assembly instructions for a RAM 1500 truck rather than my Ford. So I then turned to the internet for an assembly video from American Trucks.com where I bought the kit and proceeded to follow their “expert” instructions. The guy in the video proceeded to put it together backwards and I initially followed his lead until the truck would not start. After some additional research online I figured out that their video shows installing the main air tube backwards which turned the MAF sensor upside down and caused the starting issue. Once I reversed the tube it started and ran great.
Out with the old:
In with the new:
Claims are 10-14 HP gains. It feels like a little better throttle response and definitely sounds better when you go to pass a truck on the highway. Time will tell in performance improves.

Sunday a Funday at the Drag Strip
I spent yesterday afternoon at Lapeer International Dragway just spectating this time. I have much work to do on my car before going to test and tune again in the future. There were some very exciting grudge races going and some really fast 8 car field trying to win a $2000 prize. Fast cars, huge wheelies, everyone stayed safe and just a fun Sunday afternoon. Looks like one of my posting attempts failed regarding my daily driver Mustang.
Monday’s (Labor Day) project was to install this Mach 1 style chin spoiler on the convertible.

It was an easy little install made slightly harder by my old fat self but I think it improves the front end looks a bit.
The silver Mustang (drag race car) got washed yesterday as its been sitting outside for weeks now. Then I pulled it into the garage for some serious work that is ahead. More stripping of interior for weight reduction, removal of stock exhaust to replace with long tube headers and, install the locker rear diff to get both tires working for me. Last but not least I have to fix the battery hold down because the factory one no longer holds and I only passed tech last time with a temporary fix at the track and the promise to fix it right before coming back.
There’s a bunch of other jobs I hope to do on it as well but we’ll see how much I can get done in approximately a month before going back to the track for testing.

I hope they can keep Lapeer open after putting all that money into it, I've been hearing some bad legal news lately. Hopefully won't end up like Onadaga.
Many people are hoping the same thing and luckily Lapeer has a pretty big following and support group so I hope that helps. The owner definitely wants to continue fighting in court but admittedly gets down sometimes. Lots of folks cheering for him as yes he has spent a lot of money to make it so improved.
It’s sad when a small vindictive group can make so much trouble.
They are currently forced to operate on a much smaller schedule but if you are close enough to go to any event please take an afternoon to go and show your support. You will also see some pretty fantastic drag racing for your money.
Trying to expand my You Tube capabilities a little so I made and edited a more complete video of the recent cold air intake install on my 2007 F150. It took a lot of work and editing to get it just barely under 20 minutes and I see now some shooting improvements I can make to be concise and to the point so the total time does not get too long. Trying not to be “that guy” that rambles on instead of getting to the point. Still got a lot to learn.

Ir's dumb when you move into the neighborhood of something like that, then put up a fuss. "I can't stand the smell of cow poop. Then why the F did you move in next to a dairy farm?" Idiots
Exactly. It’s so completely stupid and petty. Last time I went there I made a point to look at the houses nearby. To be honest there aren’t really that many. Lots of vacant or farm land on that road and a few homes. There are a few right across the road but not sure they even complain. The former track owner still lives on property next door and is leading this court battle against the new owner he sold to. How twisted is that!
The racers and more local community rally each day behind the track an new owner. It’s just sad he has to waste time and money in court before he can hopefully finishing the racing facility completely.
A very large community is hurt by the actions of a few jerks.

Tuesday night after work I drove back up with the truck to bring it home. I love it. It’s 20’ long by 8’wide and 6.5’ high. It’s the biggest trailer I’ve towed so far and being a big box was a new learning experience in towing. But this will make my loading, unloading and towing of the race car so much easier. This will be much safer as well for me when working alone than the open trailer with loose ramps.

Multi-purpose use. Primary use will be hauling the race car to the track and making my loading and unloading there much easier.
Also, taking the hot rod to events further away from home on occasion.
Bringing home future new projects?
A place to store the race car in off season possibly and then freeing up a garage space.

An enclosed trailer was some of my best money spent to go racing. I packed an hg tool cart with the tools I would likely use at the track and keep it in the trailer all summer. Just hitch and go makes things a lot easier.
