2 vs 1 stage compressor

Hello I’m looking at buying a new compressor. I have found a cheap 2 stage but it has less cfm than a 1 stage about the same cost. I use compressor for tires, grinding, and plan to get a plasma cutter, vapor honing machine and a paint gun soon. Am I missing something here, or will the cheaper 1 stage work better for high demand tools???

Higher CFM wins. Any air intensive application will eat through the air reserve in a hurry so you are left to whatever the pump can deliver, measured in CFM.

Also make sure that the motor is rated for 100% duty cycle.

Thank you that was my thoughts too. So why are these 2 stages more expensive lol

There are several simple explanations through the internet as to why a two stage is better. More efficient, faster recovery time, and more cost efficient. Just google it.

Staging allows more efficient running at higher discharge pressures. If you are staying below 130psi or so a single stage compressor is a better bet.

That is a poor website with 3 different CFM's for the two stage compressor. If you dig you will find the above specifications PDF which lists the two stage at 11 cfm which is about right for a 3 hp compressor.
