2 vs 3 Jaw Pullers

I'd like to get a few...I was hoping Craftsman has a 3 jaw adjustable, like their two jaws, but they do not....

Also, which size would you consider the most versatile?
I have had to add spacers to big ones and had little ones not capable of the job, so I'm leaning towards bigger.

Also, I have a harmonic balancer puller, rarely use it but I see the potential with a few donor washers.

I have found the craftsman 2 jaw 7 ton a very useful size that covers most general needs. I actually like it better then OTC. That said, I really like my big SO set.

Figured it'd be good for rotors...then again I have a BFH for that!

My dad has the SO wall case w/ a ton of pullers...I envy him immensely.

It never hurts to get both styles and in as many sizes you can afford. In some applications, getting a 3 jaw puller into a space will not work and in others, you will need and wish you had 3 jaw puller. There is no "one size, fits all" approach to pullers unless you are doing the same repetitive job over and over again.

I have never regretted buying a quality puller of any sort.

I probably have +20 in all configurations and sizes and they all have a use. My advice is to check out flea markets, garage sales, etc and buy a whole pile.

Agree, it's hard to have to many pullers of different sizes. I prefer a 3 jaw when you can use them. (larger force distribution on the part). But sometimes all you have access to is 2 spots 180° apart. I think bob is talking about the 3 jaw pullers that have an extra tab to convert them to 2 jaw, 180° from 3 jaw 120° degree.

As for the harmonic balancer puller, they are handy outside of car work. I primarily use them to pull outboard flywheels. With an array of pulling equipment a small selection of bar stock and a good bit of imagination, you can really do alot pulling, pushing, pressing.

Sorry man, forgot about this thread. I primarily use the 3 jaw that is actually a 2/3 jaw, but I bolt a bar to the 2 jaw tab. But realize I mostly do repair work on misc machinery components so I don't go after thing as large as a rotor. I typically only use the 2 jaw if something prevents the use of the 3 jaw.

The main one I use is not craftsman (KD or OTC I think) but it is about the same size as the craftsman 2-3 jaw puller.

So you don't find it restrictive by size then, that's good, I'll probably pick one up. Working on personal stuff I don't exactly NEED a puller for rotors, a hammer works most of the time especially if they're getting replaced.

Had to pull one once tho and I hate borrowing other people's tools.
Primarily because I hate it when people "borrow" mine.
