2 week renovation

Well, due to a few recent purchases it has become necessary to redo the interior of my detached garage. I had been putting it off but that is no longer an option. Started this morning (forgot to get before pictures) so the first 2 pictures are about an hour into the tear down. House used to be owned by a retired farmer so I wasn't too surprised when I removed the window trim (what's the R value of paper towels anyway?). Last two are at the end of today. I hope to get the rest of the sheetrock and osb down tomorrow. Planning on posting more pictures as I continue. (I'm sure I'll find additional 'fixes' as I continue)

By the way it is an 19'L x 16'H x 9'H single attached garage in case anybody cares.

I find stuff like that in my picture framing shop, too! I find lots of masking tape used to seal "openings". When I bought one of my apartment buildings, the windows were "sealed" with clear packing tape instead of caulking around the windows. It would have cost less and probably taken less time to do it correctly.

Good start...curious what you bought that you needed to remodel your garage (as if anyone needs an excuse)

Are you adding on or just a remodel?

I also noticed the Futaba boxes...you race RC?

I'll post pictures of the reasons at the end, but basically it wasn't going to work the way it was anymore. I'm only redoing the inside as there was no insulation in a majority of the wall or ceiling and some mold was evident. (not to mention significant insect and spider populations).

As for the Futaba boxes, I used to race cars (dirt cars 2WD & 4WD) and fly some and still have everything (even had a helicopter for a few years) But I haven't touched them for several years as I've been concentrating on other things.

Mostly done with demo today and just started electrical. Got a rude surprise in that the landfill I was going to take the debris to in my truck ($20/load last time) has since closed and the next nearest landfill doesn't take construction waste from private parties (got to be a trash contractor). So had to call for a rolloff and had it delivered today. Going to cost $400 for a 10 yard, didn't expect to need one so my budget is already headed the wrong way.:dunno:

Some new pictures of today's progress. Found a little homemade cable dead ended in the wall too.

Nice work. ***** about the landfill closing. It is always surprising some of the stuff you find in walls. I have found a few electrical nightmares in my house.

Didn't get much done yesterday, spent most of Wednesday afternoon at the hospital for yearly monitoring. Was exposed to beryllium dust at work and developed a sensitivity, monitoring is to make sure that it doesn't get worse or develop a lung cancer. So I spent the afternoon sitting in various uncomfortable chairs waiting for highly trained people to tell me that everything is fine.

Got the wiring done today and installed a heater. Why is it that you either have the cable cut 6 in short or 3 feet too long?:eyecrazy:

Nice to have a potty in the garage. Sure beats my Maxwell House coffee cans. Looks like your really moving along. Like the overhead heater a lot. I am using gas wall heaters which are ventless, but still coat the wall with soot.
Good Job.
Best Regards

Sorry I didn't make any update posts recently but I've been working hard on the garage. I had to redo the plumbing to the bathroom and that turned into a nightmare on Friday. Saturday and today I had some temporary help from family so worked long to get the insulation and sheetrock up.

Plumbing is all fixed under the house but still need to run new supply and waste lines to the garage. Got everything insulated and just some trim work with the rock left and then I can start mudding the walls.

I've also been keeping the receipts and such from the renovation to see what the total comes out too.

Here's a few pictures of what the plumbing looked like and where the project is at now.

Finished the sheetrock and started mudding today. And also completed the plumbing lines to the garage(along with a central air run tied to the house for the bathroom.)

At least it's starting to look like a garage again and I may even finish before the end of the week.

Sorry I wasn't able to keep to the daily updates. I was busting **** working 12-14 hrs trying to finish on time. Still not going to happen but I got far enough that the new purchase has a home. I still have to finish the bathroom and complete some trim work but I should be able to do that as I get time.

Thanks, its been a lot of hard work but I can see the end now. Still I'm not going to make my 2 week deadline but that was more a goal than anything hard and fast. I had to get a new safe after I bought my latest boom-stick. (Maybe that should be BOOM-stick.)

I'll continue to post as I get more done.

Starting to put things back together now. I wanted more useable storage so I bought a shelving unit to stack stuff on. Box said shelves were rated to 1000 lbs each but since the wood is 1/2 inch fiberboard I'm not going to test that.

Still got a lot to do but it's going to have to be evening and weekend projects because I have to return to work tomorrow.

Oh well, at least it looks like a nice garage with a couple of my rides in it.

First post in awhile due to a combination of project burn-out and having to take care of everything that I've ignored over it. Still putting things together but got some accent paint up. Used a stencil to do the diamonds. Was my first time trying it so the first couple need touched up but I think it will work well.
