I saw this Delta Drill Press advertised at a garage sale for $100. Seller said "broken spindle don't want to try and find parts". After a few days I decided to go into the city to take a look. Other than the broken spindle it looked like a diamond in the rough so I bought it. It included the original vintage mortise jig made for this model which I quickly resold which brought my net price to $20. (When I mortise I use a plunge router).
Apparently this unit had a lower spindle that used a Jacobs collar mount. The collar is attached to the spindle with a taper pin and this is where it broke. (reason unknown). It was also missing a couple feed handle spokes. Everything else was in good shape including a huge Westinghouse 1HP single phase motor made for the oddball Delta mounting pattern.
I located a JT33 lower collar style spindle but will use the more common MT2 style of lower spindle.
It's been cleaned/stripped/repainted, all bearings cleaned/repacked w/Polyrex EM, new wiring and it runs great. The table had some arc of shame but I've seen much worse. (JB Weld to the rescue)
