It IS a great bench. Well thought out and carried out. I do have a question though:

Why spray paint the PVC? You could have used ABS and not have to consider the black paint chipping off.

Also, how will the electric cords be handled? Just coil and wrap? Velcro straps? On the other hand you could just put a tray below the cords and let them lay in the tray without worrying about coiling, etc.

It is a nice bench. I'm just wondering what would've been bad about building it in 2 sections. The two sections can be bolted together, yet, make it easy to move or rearrange. I was just curious.

AWESOME!

I've been wanting to build almost the same thing. Haven't moved forward because I couldn't figure out exactly how I wanted it to turn out. You have just given me great inspiration.

I have a 40' x 60' building and have been planning to build my bench across the back wall with tons of storage. I bought a big load of file cabinets and was trying to determine how to incorporate those drawers into my bench. Even though you did not do "that", I've got the big picture in mind.

Thanks

Thanks for all the complements on the bench and it's design.

I used the schedule 40 because I had it laying around. If it gets scratched up, I'll just touch it up or maybe try some other coating for them.

I built it all one piece because I have been planning on it replacing 4 of the cheap shelves you get at lowes that are like small cheap pallet racks. I already have the overhead lights for the workbench in place and after working in the shop 2 years I knew where I wanted it. It spans the first two car bays in my shop. I don't plan on moving it ever again. I try to plan things out for very long term use and make use of every square foot I have in the shop.

I think will the purchase of the tool boxes, materials and everything I'm at about 2k in cost for building the workbench. Well worth it to me to finally have plenty of storage for my tools.

One thing I did while making the tool box sections was I took the measurements of the toolbox and added a 1/4" for each of the dimensions to make room for the inside welds. That worked out real well except for the center box, I ended up having to grind down some of the top welds for it to slide in easier.

Been getting tools organized into drawers as I've had time over the last few days and making use of my label maker while I'm at it.

Finally got thru sorting and establishing homes for all my tools into the 3 new tool boxes and have most of them labeled but I ran out of tape on my label maker so I'll have to finish that up later. Surprised my soon to be 19 year old with my upright craftsman toolbox as his birthday present for his first toolbox to start filling up with his own tools. He will out grow it quicker since he plans on being a diesel mechanic full time.

Over all I'm very happy with this workbench.

Saved a lot of pictures from this, it's awesome.

I've always worked out of Dad's shop (25'x60' or so), and for as long as I can remember we've only had 1 bench. It's about 32" x 60", has a vise and drill press on it, and typically misc junk around it, so basically no bench. When I get my own shop I dream of having a bench... and fantasize about one that's 20' long!

Great looking bench. Wish I had the space to build one as nice in my current situation.

I just installed the same tool box and hose reel from HF at work (assuming that is the source). Box and hose reel are great so far, hose itself was terrible. Didn't seem like it was flowing enough, so I swapped the HF 50' hose out with a better one and it is perfect now.

Nice bench build. I'm doing something similar with a 44" HF box i picked up on black friday.
I plan to add toe boards, kick boards under my bench. I don't know how many times I've ended up on the floor with a flashlight and telescopic magnet or grabber trying to reach that small part that rolled off the bench. I also plan to paint my bench either white or light grey. Not sure yet. Also going to use a router to run a groove around the perimeter of the top, same effect as a cutting board, to contain fluids and small parts.

Thanks for the complements on the bench. It's working out great so far.

Yes, I can still reach all but the top 1 1/2' of the whiteboard. I'm 6'4" tall and have long arms.... I usually write lists for projects up there to keep track of what needs doing or to rough sketch ideas on it. I made the list for my daughters race truck on it last night. Just used my aluminum step that I work on the trucks with to reach the top to start the list at the top.
