I have at least 3 HD stores around me, one town over had this set for $79 and the next town had them for $59. I bought the one for $59, going to take an inventory of my sockets later on today.

If you read my earlier post on this Home Depot 200 pc. socket set, , you know I've returned twice to HD to be refunded $20+ each time, as the price on this set dropped.

Here's what I bought off craigslist in my city, a N.I.B. Craftsman 3/8" socket set of torx, phillips, hex key and slot tip devices, with a ratchet and extension. I'd bought one of these for one shop and I found it useful, this is for the other shop, I am sure I'll find it to be as-useful. A double-sawbuck, cheap!

A good purchase with some of the savings from returning to Home Depot for a 200 pc. socket set price adjustment.

Sort of PSA...

well for those who got the box... make sure you count them asap...

I bought that 200 piece last night right before they are about to close, whopping $59
box is sealed, re-taped by them.. long story short... I decided to count them this morning.... and it's missing 22 pieces (1 bag of 1/4 deep sockets).... it's a lot to count but at least check them if the bag is open, make sure you match them.. also I got some WTF bags different from the description on the box... but anyways... still missing that 22 piece...
.

Damn, mine is missing the same bag of sockets

FYI, in my box the (22) 1/4 6pt deep sockets were in the same bag as the (25) 1/4 6pt shallow sockets. So (47) sockets in a single bag. All other sets were in separate bags besides these 2 sets.

Thanks...
Yea I will have to count them again... exchanged a new box, I got 11 bags of sockets, same amount of bags in the new one... that doesn't seems to be re-taped or any bags inside was opened... and the number of bags matches... going to have to physically count them I guess... hate to get an incomplete set of anything even if it is a cheapie sets...

Home depot should make good on it husky does have a warranty and a guarantee. And a no hassle one at that. :lol_hitti

It was surprisingly smooth exchange ... I waited online, the customer services asked what was the reason for return, told her that it was missing a bag... showed her the paper I counted with, she was fuzzing then asked if I wanted to exchange, I said sure, I was going to return and buy another... well that is that.. still consider smooth exchange in my book...

I have that Craftsman set (China)-- I broke the 6mm hex on the first use. Junk.

The Husky one is all sockets only between the 2/8 3/8 4/8 different sizes of 6pt and 12pt deep and shallow sockets... I wouldn't say junk, but probably not impact grade...... not fancy at all... will work as a hand tool as long as you don't beat it with a BFH and claims it doesn't last...

As far as the craftsman 6mm hex... I broke a few don't know the COO.... even the T30s, that is what you get from these German engineered cars that have seized bolts with those...

These are NOT impact sockets! They are for use on hand ratchets.

They actually are pretty nice, quite pleased with my set. Not sure why they included both 12 pt and 6 pt in the same sizes and drive, no real need for the 6 pt when you have the 12 pts, but otherwise like the set.

Sounds like you got a bad one. I've been using my first-bought set for > a year, and have had no-issues. Lifetime warranty!

Hopefully, it was just a bad one. After it broke, i put that set at the bottom of my box and have not used it since. My other Craftsman 6mm (made in USA) has lasted for a long time -- removing many stubborn German engineered assemblies. :bounce:

I just finished sorting the first of 2 boxes - this one had the correct number of pieces; however, I am missing 2 sockets and had doubles of 2.

Do they make you return the entire set or will they replace what is missing? I just spent a bunch of time loading everything on rails.

Overall, for the price, its a good set. Some of the identification stamps were pretty light.

6-point sockets are far less likely to round off fasteners than 12-points. Plus, they have more metal and are less likely to break. The only use I see for 12-points is for square (not hex) fasteners, which are pretty rare these days.

6-point sockets are far less likely to round off fasteners than 12-points.

Not to reopen that debate, but that is actually a misconception, both types of sockets make contact in a narrow strip at the points of the fastener and there is no practical difference in the torque that can be applied or in the likelihood of stripping a fastener.

FWIW, this has been repeatedly tested and verified.

If there were a real difference, 12 pt impact sockets would not be widely available and used, since they apply more torque and are the most extreme example.

After realizing the 6 pts were taking up tool box space needlessly, I got rid of my 6 pts years ago. Have rarely stripped a fastener since, certainly no more than before.

Spline type sockets apply the force around the middle of the side of the fastener, so they are far less likely to strip a head and can apply much more torque. They are great for removing rounded fasteners, they can remove a bolt where the head is almost stripped completely round.

For the set I bought I was missing a 30mm and had a duplicate 32mm. My Home Depot let me swap them out one they had in stock.

Thanks. Did you take the bags back that had the missing/doubled sockets?

I have a second box to go through tonight -- i ordered 5 (3packs) of socket rails and I went through 4.5 packs with the first box -- WOW, there are a lot of parts here (200 to be exact)... :lol_hitti

I inventoried and sorted the entire box but brought the entire box back to the store. Initially the employee was going to return my set and let me take a different one. I politely asked to just pull the socket I needed from the new box since I had all of the sockets separated by drive size and metric/sae. They allowed it.
