I use snap on tools because they are precise and last longer than the cheaper stuff. Ive had instances when a tech next to me couldn't get a bolt out because the bolt "stripped" id put the same size snap on socket and it came out just fine. For me i have to have tools that hold up since my tools get a lot of use.

I just spat my drink out laughing :)

If I had £200 spare (sorry I don't have a dollar sign on my keyboard) and I lived in the USA

I would spend it online at AES wave on gadgets

Maybe Load pro meter leads and the FET book

Or a DLC breakout box

Or the mini oscilloscope

Yeah... a Power Probe is a very handy tool to have.... Good call Rich.

Some other things that popped into my mind...

A small tool cart.
Adjustable height car ramps (Until you can afford your lift).
A stonking shop HiFi system.
A nice Aluminium trolley jack (Maybe you call them floor jacks)
An under bonnet LED work light
Dinner and a show and a night in a hotel for you and your Bird.
Plenty of power tool choices (Drill, Saw, Sander, Rotary tool, Angle Grinder, etc.)
A quality torque wrench.
A nice vari speed angle car polisher.
Put the money towards one of your $1000+ future purchases.
A Snap-On 3/8" drive 10mm socket, or combination wrench.
And a Partridge in a pear tree.

This thread has made for a good laugh... If you don't know what to buy then don't buy anything.

How about a really nice flashlight or a really nice ratchet. I would get something that I would not normally get, because I thought it was over priced, but since this is a gift, splurge on yourself. Or maybe get something for your woman.

A nice screw driver set. A badass ratcheting screwdriver. Swivel impact sockets. Dead blow hammer, an expensive one or two. A welding helmet (Once less thing to buy when you get a welder). One of those underhood lights that hangs from the hood, that are long, they really light up the engine bay.

Replace one of your cheap tools that annoys the **** out of you every time you use and replace it with something awesome.

Seriously consider a flex head 3/8 snap-on ratchet, you will not want to use anything else after you use it, especially if you lube it. You can order it from the website.

Went with an ATD under hood light and 1/4" and 3/8" gearwrench 84 tooth flex heads (didn't want the 120's because I already have other 84's and I hear the heads are slightly bigger).
