2002 Mazda Tribute 2.0 how to replace alternator

I need to put an alternator on my 2002 Mazda Tribute DX 2.0 liter 5 speed 4WD. Everything I have seen says I need to go from underneath. The alternator is right on top back left of motor. Am I reading about different engine? It looks like I can get to it from the top. Help

My understanding is that alternators are a real PITA to replace on these vehicles. Wheel assembly must come off, etc.
