2006 RAM 1500 HVAC problem-look for a little help

Hi All,

This is not really Garage related but looking for some help or where to find help. Have above mentioned truck. Have a HVAC problem. When using the heater the air flow cannot be directed to the footwell, it does blow out of the dash and defrost ports. Had this problem last wnter but as soon as I needed to use the AC it worked fine. Then as soon as I needed to use the heater this season-no flow to the foot well. I find this quite odd as the footwell area on the dial selector is in the middle of the dial not at the top or bottom of the dial Looked around online and sounds like the heater blend door, could there be a seperate AC blend door? Also saw lots of people with issues but not how a how to fix. Is this something that is fairly easy to fix? I am fairly mechanically inclined but occasionally find that I have three thumbs on some projects Any special tools needed?

Probably a blend door issue.

I am not sure I myself would **** with it.. I'd let the dealer fix it myself

Not real familiar with 2006,but IIRC,blend doors,etc are vacuum controlled.
I'd pull out glove compartment and heater controls to get access and look for a vacuum problem.Get a mity-vac and check the diaphragms on the door operators.

This is a very common problem with that era Dodge trucks. It is the blend door. Log into one of the many truck forums out there and you'll find it mentioned.

IIRC, it means taking the dash apart and no, you probably don't want to do it yourself.

I have the same truck. Mine had to be replaced twice

A long known problem since 2003 and they keep building the same garbage, its blend doors, and dealer will **** u for repairs, Diesel truck resources do a search , someone has a fully detailed write up with pics of how to fix it for good.....

lucky for me my 2004 2500 Dodge does not have the issues yet

I know the default setting for most vehicles is the defrost setting. On dodges theres a black vacuum line running into the fire wall. I have seen many of those unhooked or cracked.

Doesnt explain why it works fine on ac though. As others have said look for a door issue

thanks for all the input. I thnk that I'll take it to my local mechanic. This morning with the wind chill it was -6. The windshield was nicely warmed but my feet froze on the way into work.

Since 2003? Hmph! My '97 had the same issue. Mine was replaced under warranty though.
