hi

am new to this site. am having problems with climate control system on my 09 ford ranger. i have read on-line that a stripped climate control knob might be the problem. how do i check for this ... does the knob pull out on its own or is it a part of a larger system. i do have a vague memory of having difficulty turning the knob a while back ... it didn't want to move. it moves freely now but i can't get anything but cold air.

My first thought would the the blend door actuator, It is a common issue. I'll try to post a link that may help..."Tests/Procedures:
1. Access the Blend Door Actuator (BDA) and verify battery voltage is present on the Green/Brown (GN/BN) wire from fuse 27 (10 amp) of the Smart Junction Box (SJB) with the ignition key on.

2. Check for a good ground on the Black/Yellow (BK/YE) wire at the BDA.

3. Backprobe the Brown/White (BN/WH) wire of the BDA with a DVOM and monitor the voltage of this circuit while rotating the temperature control switch slowly from hot to cold and cold to hot. The voltage should change smoothly from a high of about 11.0 volts to a low of about 0.5 volts. If the signal changes as stated, it would suggest that either the BDA is defective, or there is an issue of the temperature blend door being bound or broken from the crank arm.

4. If there is no voltage on the BN/WH wire or the voltage does not change, check to verify that the Blue/Orange (BU/OG) wire shows battery voltage which is voltage feeding the temperature control switch from the BDA and that the Grey/Orange (GY/OG) wire is supplying the temperature control switch a good ground from the BDA. Repair these circuits or replace the temperature control switch if the circuits check to be ok.
Tech Tips:
The BDA can be accessed through the defrost de-mister grill opening. It should not be necessary to remove the instrument panel to access the BDA."
