My daughters XC60 needs a rear trailing arm bushing replaced, we can't find someone in the Charlotte area that will replace the bushings without removing the trailing arm, they all want to replace the entire trailing arm. All in all it's pretty pricey, so I'm going to head to Charlotte and do it myself. I purchased the bushing and I have been shopping for the tool, it appears if it was an XC60 with a Ford platform, there are plenty of them priced reasonably. But I'm not convinced my Volvo has the Ford platform, how do I confirm that? Otherwise, they are $300 - $500, I already have enough one-time use tools in my tool box and I'm hoping someone on here will consider renting me their bushing replacement tool for this vehicle.

That era XC60 is on the Volvo P3 platform which is basically the the Ford EUCD platform.... but you'll likely need a Volvo-specific tool. While the platform is shared, the doodads hanging off it aren't necessarily the same. Looks like you can eBay a version of the tool. No one really rents tools with forcing screws anymore.

Have used harbor freight for kit and then add other pieces as needed. Going to be hard because you cannot bring every possible tool With you. Threaded rod and a piece of pipe and a 4x4 with a hole drilled out could work or steel plate. But the amount of time and tools available.

also since you have the new bushing, you can search Amazon And maybe come up with something.

If the bushing is really stuck and you take the arm off. Great excuse to buy a 12 or 20 ton shop press at hf and then take the press home with you. The arms are 420 per side, you are going to end up buying something. Unless you find a shop that’s reasonable.

Bring a paint pen to mark the trailing arm the orientation of the old bushing so you know how to install the new.
I've used pipe cut to the right length and a ball joint press C frame to install them before.
Removing the old one is easy, torch or air chisel will take it right out.

Wow. Definitely don't put jack stands where that guy put jack stands.

The fleaBay tool For Volvo P3 and Ford EUCD (2007-2016-ish) is a steal of a deal.

Hey Ryan, I did not see the steal of a deal on fleaBay, the only ones I can find on there are coming our of Great Britain, is that what you are referring to?

Thanks for everyone's input, I have watched those videos and I am hoping to knock this out without actually having to remove the trailing arm. I'm not going down to do the job unless I have the proper tool, if it was in my garage, then that would be a different story.

I ended up purchasing 2 trailing arms off a salvage vehicle on Ebay for $80 each, I'm going to do what Wrench97 did, in the luxury of my garage, and I'll just drive down and swap out the arms.
