Organ, that saw of mine is a J. Disston with a cast steel blade, freshly sharpened when I originally bought it, with the miter, and after 30 years or so still sharp. I've cut countless bards with it, mostly 5" oak flooring, a lot of it used as baseboard. (I like tall base boards...)

The steel Disston used back than was great, far better than most saws available today.

BJ42LX; Sorry I wasn't clear: It was $5 for ALL that stuff!

Outlaw - Good job finding a sale the weekend before x-mas.

Those T&B crimpers are top notch. That was one of my first "quality" purchases back in the early 90's. I remember being sick over having to spend $35 for a handtool. But they were (and still are) worth every penny I had to pay. They're still going strong almost 25yrs later.

I like that clamp too.

I'll give up a "you ****" on the price as well.

Came to WV to visit some family this weekend and went to the flea market this morning.

Spent $24 and got the following:

14" Proto heavy duty pipe wrench (USA)
10" Crescent adjustable wrench (USA)
12" Williams adjustable wrench (China or Taiwan I assume)
10mm Craftsman combo wrench (USA)
3/8" Craftsman combo wrench (USA)
2x Craftsman 7/8" 6 point sockets, G and G1 (USA)
13/16" x 3/4" Armstrong open end (USA)
S-K Wayne 1/2" drive extension (USA)
11/16" x 19/32" Gedore open end (India)

And finally, a "forged in USA" open end wrench with no name and no sizes listed on it. I've got two more at home that I believe are from the same set. It has a shield symbol on it with a "V" in the center. I tracked down the name of the manufacture in the past, but forgot the name now.

I think I did alright, especially for this time of the year when it's too cold for most people to show up.

I'd post a pic if I brought my camera.

There was also 3 pair of pliers (Proto lineman, channellock t&g, and Irwin lineman). Was about to buy them until I heard the $60 price.

Yours looks exactly like mine. Can you recommend a good saw?

I found a NOS Disston miter saw for mine, more teeth and better set than the 1960s Stanley saw that came with mine. A good sharpener could probably tune whatever came with yours to be equally as good. Bad Axe Tools could set you up with a new saw, sweet no doubt but be prepared to pay $$$ for it.

Some good finds today!

I hit up one garage sale that started early and I was the first one there!

The guys was selling stuff for a widow down the street.

First thing I bought was a USA made Dayton 1/2 HP 5.5 amp 7" wheel grinder with a buffing wheel. Missing one side shield and the tool rests and eye shields but runs smooth and strong! $25

A rough Craftsman Crown machinists box, Klein tool bag with a few tools inside including a Ridgid tubing cutter and a pair of decent Holley aluminum valve covers for a 289-302 Ford cost me $30.

Then we went to the shop down the road and first thing I bought was the old aluminum and steel Black & Decker workmate for $5. Been looking for one of those for a while!

I picked out some USA tools, MF ? USA made 4" adjustable wrench, Proto metric combos, Craftsman metric USA Pro stubby combo wrenches, Craftsman Quickwrench wrenches (I am one of the few that like them apparently LOL) Snap On Weatherhead socket, an apparent high quality body work heel dolly (Stamped "Forged", no brand name, all sides polished) and a Petersen welding vise grip for $40 for a grand total of $100.

There was an unbranded Swivel jaw vise there but it was not for sale and it was rough.

I needed to go because a Craigslist buyer was on the way to my house.
On the way home the tool guy called me up and said if he wanted to help him clean up he would make it worth my while so I will be doing that Monday-Tuesday!

So I get home and take a look at Craigslist while I am waiting. Hmm a set of Ford truck 15x10 slots had just been added 22 minutes ago. I send an email and get a call back within 20 minutes! he wheels were 30 miles away and they were going to a funeral soon in Springhill. Hmm I ask were they taking Hwy 3. Yes they were. I said I live only a block off the hwy can you bring them and meet at a grocery store. Yes they can and so I only had to drive 2 blocks to pick them up for $100 for the set. May use them on my 1967 Bronco or may sell them.

And the Craigslist buyer came through and I got $220 from him so I am still $20 ahead for the day!

I found this box in an antique shop this morning. More than I wanted to pay but it deserved to be cleaned up. Sort of sad, it looks like it was in really nice shape with little use prior to setting in a damp basement for years. Dog was giving it a thorough inspection.

Mavawreck, That looks like an early 40's late 30's Craftsman socket Set! Cool Find!

Thanks! Sort of frustrated with the surface rust since several of the sockets are really clean and have nice chrome. Looks like pure neglect. I'm hoping they will respond well to some buffing.

If they are chromed, try some oil and 0000 steel wool; sort of messy, but works well nearly always. (Less effective if heavily pitted)

....I won 6 grab bags of tools for $5 ea and a couple really nice commercial quality draftsman chairs for $5/ea. ($40 total spent)......

And what was inside. There was more inside but this was the good stuff. All the pliers/cutters were Lindstrom, Swanstrom and Klein. The tweezers are Swiss. The tie wrap tools are all high end like Panduit and Greenlee.

- Unbelievable. I would be an Xtremely happy camper with that haul for that price.

- And the curiosity question as I've never seen a "silent auction" listed around the Phoenix area : How did you find out about this auction?

Five bucks. U **** big time. I love those T&B's (not to play favorites on your haul. All good).

Did pretty well today. Sorter full of new hardware, two reels of wire, one large coffee can full of hardware, and one small coffee can half full of taps and dies for $10. I'm hoping an appreciative family member got the wall of tools that was missing from the obvious wall of pegboard. There was a but broken Plomb speeder when I got there.

Cast iron dutch oven and 48 inch steel rule at another sale for $25.

It looks like the same box I found Earlier this year. Except I'm missing the top tray and got none of the original tools. It's a 1935 Craftsman set and also had a small box attached to the inside of the lid with a 9/32 socket set. If you got some of the original sockets plus the top tray you have a great start to a vintage tool set. These pics are of mine before and after clean up. I just used Simple Green and a soft tooth brush to gently clean the blue wrinkle finish paint and fragile decal. A light sanding of the rusted areas and hit it with some Permatex rust preventer until I can match the blue color. It is sad the PO let this get neglected but you can bring it back to life. It also need the leather handle but hope you can find a replacement for that. I was lucky that a little saddle soap revived mine.

A great find and worthy of restoration.

It came up just searching "tools" in the CL garage sale ads. It was kind of a weird sale. I think the company was disappointed that turnout was so poor.

I've never bid in a silent auction before.

Outlaw, what did you give for those T&B crimpers?

I've made a few $$ flipping them on eBay. They go for ~$20 and seem to be in demand. I've done it four or five times now.

Thats a deal on those T&B pliers as I am one those people on EBAY who just paid 22.50 for a T&B WT112M. I never see any T&M stuff at the local sales in my area.

A small Taiwan made Wilton vise, a couple older nippers, an older Stanley speed square and 5 cans of spray paint and a like new 3" C-Clamp. $24 for all.

You guys really killed it for the last weekend before xmas!! Great scores!! No garage sales for us this weekend but I did just up my game for next year with this new Craftsman heritage shopping bag!! Only $2.49 and carries up to 50 lbs, should come in handy for the quickly approaching 2015 season.

Oh, I thought the pup was just hinting for you to take the bag for a test drive with her as the passenger!!! She looks a bit shy of the 50-lb limit.

So originally I responded to a CL ad for a toolbox with some old tools... Pictures were eh, couldn't make anything out, e-mailed him saying I'd do $30 and asked what brands were in the box... he only responded "sure, bonney + sk". Ok, cool, I'll snag it... and now I'm real glad I did.

It's almost ALL Bonney with two or three SK's in it! Was mostly excited for the ratchet, which is missing the ball on the top, but then quickly realized....

Satin bottom Bonney's! I've been piecing this set together for 2 years now and only found 5, this is nearly a complete set!

Then we were talking, and started pulling random stuff out, and ended up leaving with a few more items...

A Stanley Bailey No. 6! A wooden plane made in Germany, and 4 '55/'56/'57 PA Plates! $75 total haul, not a bad way to end the year and merry christmas to my tool addic... I mean, collection!

Nice!
Why it can quickly pay to keep checking CL often.

Yes it has the essentials, faceplate, rest and tailstock. A chuck and some chisels would be nice.
