Found a bunch of good stuff at several outdoor fleas today, but I guess this thread has many a dude going all "Lara Croft-Tool Raider" as I was talking to two of my tools guys at different flea mkts when when newbie buyers strolled up and asked where are all the "cheap and $1 Snap-On and Mac tools" were.

Both vendors said either in thier own tool box or sold to ready buyers or on ebay.

I guess everyone is out for cheap USA made chrome these days.

Oh well.

Too tired to post pics but will do so tomorrow.

C'mon man. Every house in America has Snap-On tools in the junk dwr. and just layin' about the house ready for the flea.
I Know it. LOLOLOLZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

#derp.

:)
I don't pay but a dollar a socket unless its a 1/2 deep or something 3/4 drive. There is one guy that hs really nice chrome for 3 and 4 bucks, bu his stuff is always super clean. The going rate around here

That's the outside part of a nesting screwdriver, I have a couple like that. You are missing the brass cap on the end, which contains several other screwdrivers inside it (also missing from yours). Here's a pic of what should be in the set if it was complete:

YOU ****! I have never even seen one of the military Colemans at a garage sale let alone 2 NOS ones in their original crate! I would not light them. They are definite collector items in that unfired condition.

Thanks

I like how the funnel and filler cap are chained on! Great find..

I had to put on my poker face when I saw and then asked what he was looking to get for them. Inside the box for the lanterns are extra panels of glass for the globe and about 20 mantels plus some spare parts. Its a pretty cool set up.

Here are two of my purchases from the weekend. $85 for the new Lincoln battery powered grease gun and $2 for the fluke 7-300. Sold the grease gun to my supervisor for what I paid, could have made more on ebay but I need the brownie points. Sold the fuke for $45 on ebay.

I have seen some of those where the entire nesting set fits inside a hammer handle.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. That was the extent of my father's tool set when I was a kid. He is NOT a handy guy.

gamhammer1.jpg

Most of the ones I see are made by "GAM", and about 1/2 have the hammer setup.

Cam, yours with the Phillips is unique in my experience: I have 8 or so of those, but none with Phillips, and I've seen none except for your pic there!

Looks like everyone has been has been doing great. I went to a sale today and I did not see any tools but I always ask even if I don't see anything. The guy says theres a work bench down in his basement if I want I could take a look. I grab my flash light and off I go. Theres no tools but under the work bench I see these two military looking boxes so I drag them out and this is what I found. A set of coleman lanterns and an officers mess kit. He tells me he wants $30 for both, so I grabbed them. They look like they have never been used.

Unbelievable to find those NOS! Those are also multi fuel as they can run on gasoline or white gas (naphtha) Well done!

They still sell those new at the Hartville Hardware. I believe they are imported. I have one that just says USA on the brass handle, and it is missing the smallest screwdriver. Between us all we should have a few complete :lol_hitti

Not my pic. I stole it from the intertubes. Dad's is long gone. I think it had Phillips, but I really don't remember.

I remember my dad had one when I was a kid, it's probably around here somewhere. I've got at least one more through the garage sale trades :)

The most recent ones I've seen are made by Best Way Tools in Deer Park NY, they also sell 4 in 1 screwdrivers, security bits, etc. Have not looked at where they are made, though.

Picked up 2 6 inch JH Williams *********** clamps that look barely used for $8. Very happy!

Do they still have the green paint?

I have been buying those at estate sales. At this point, I do not get why anyone would buy C-clamps at retail. I see them all the time. They are so well made. Made to last many lifetimes.

All: once i start looking for something i have a hard time not buying it when i see it (if i have the cash of course). metal storage cabinets were on my radar so when i see another one i have to investigate. so here's another storage i might not have Reeeeeeely needed, but i now own it and I REEEEEEELY like it. 30 12 x 12 inch drawers to fill as i can. :)

or i'll give it to my bride to use and get rid of her plastic ones that sit in my way all the time at home in my garage.:headscrat

I could tell you all i paid $10 for it which isn't true so i'll let you guess or just know that there is another cool storage cabinet that a happy GJ member now owns and it didn't become a flower pot.

cheers

PS: i saw this today and it's not for sale (Yet?), but wondering if any of you have a great way to store your clamps. this one is a decent design i think and it's on 4 casters so can be moved around. now that i'm a GJ member i can't remember the last time i walked by a good clamp that was a decent price and didn't buy it so gathering a few to say the least.

That storage bin is awesome Drives, good find and price is irrelevant as long as you are happy

That clamp storage is either a popular style, or the owner is a member here. I have seen it before.

DIF, thats a nice clamp rack; I have (most) of my Bar clamps on a 2x2 on the wall. C clamps are about half in a double wide card file drawer and the other half about to join them in drawer #2 (Currently in a tool box drawer).

If you have a rack, or available wall space, those long peg board shelf standards work well for clamp storage in pairs. You can rack them deep.

Bar clamps can be stored about the same as pipe clamps, and spring clamps land on almost any handy clamp-able edge...

Nines: thanks for kudos on my little metal storage cabinet. the storage does look like a handy guy's rack if not here maybe from another forum we lurk on.

Outlaw: any pictures to share please do here or email them to me. i think i understand what you mean, but pictures always help.

All: forgot to post these two organizers with the last ones. since i'm getting Organized and many of you might be doing the same thing i found the white one in the "free" section of Craigs and almost didn't buy it because it might weigh 300 pounds. even with my trailer 20 feet away i had my doubts, but took it and glad i did. all the drawers have the heavy duty slides so i can load it up.

the black one was not free, but i like it as much or more.

by the way getting organized includes cleaning up and moving some of my weight plates onto a little rack i can barely move around. believe it or not I've had 2000 pounds on each shelf of this one the same day. bought it many years ago for $75 and wouldn't sell it for $200 unless i have to move it again. i had to move it today after emptying some stuff (gems) and move it 20 feet inside my space and it almost killed me. then moved a few pounds of weights off the floor onto it and have twice as much to move. need weights?

good luck this week guys

Ok did a little Craigslist shopping today as well as have a few drinks with a buddy. I had found a Wright 1" drive ratchet on CL last week and had asked a buddy of mine to go pick it up. He managed to get there last week before the holiday. Today he was rained out so we made plans to meet as he is about 60 miles from my house. Before I had talked to him I was looking over CL and found a seemingly good deal on a table saw. It was 20 miles the other side of Doug's place so I picked up Doug,my new 1" ratchet and bought a Powermatic 64A contractor's table saw, mobile base, cast iron top, tennoning jig, dado insert 110/220 motor, and a Delta sliding miter gauge to boot. Before leaving my house i had also found a Charles Parker 102 that was in an area on the way of my round trip so I bought that tonight as well.

Got this from a local auction today for less than a Benjamin. KRA-59K, marked Canada. I think that the guy started to prep it for painting, it's got sanding swirls on it.

IMG_8431.JPG

No keys, I think that it was locked and was pried open by the PO. Here's the damage, but it's not that noticeable, the lid is still straight.

I'm happy I was the first caller! 23min old ad and scored it. It took some redneck wood ramps and a come along attached to the backrack and it was in the ranger. It even had a full tank of mid grade gas!

Alinc: nice saw looks like a tank. by the way did drinks include painting a certain big tool you are in temp possession of a shade of PINK?

Nines: Z had the answer and i used to have more, but getting my exercise now with big vises and anvils except for today. I needed to do this and probably should have picked a day when it wasn't 85, but at least it wasn't raining from the sky today. before pics posted here's after a day of a little exercise.

All: took a break to pick this old Gertsner box up with my AC on full tilt for an hour drive. it needs a new front cover that i have about half of and some TLC. maybe Beatcad might know how i can tell the age of it or if it's really an old Gert? or anybody else know?

Nines: sorry to hear your weather isn't conducive for outside painting. so in a Louisiana thunderstorm how much rain falls in how much time? and i'm guessing just a tad muggy?

AC and riding lawn mower sounds like they are on the top of the list. you'll make it happen hopefully soon because I'm guessing it's going to get a bit hotter before it gets cooler.

thanks for the kudos on the box and hoping it's a real one because not 100% sure.

The first garage sale of the day was out on a farm about 15 miles away. I was first to show. And I'm proud of this. I never get there first.
I was talking to the two ladies running the show and this guy pulls in. One of them tells me there are tools around the corner and he shoves past and beelines right to the boxes. He was kind of aggressive and demanding. So while he haggles and hmms and haws, pacing around, I pay the forty dollars, load them up, and go on my merry way.
These are heavy empty. They were full of big steel rods, wrenches (one Plomb pebble), mystery tools, and metal mystery parts to boot. All sorts of stuff, much of it scrap. Most of the junk is in the boxes around the bottom of the photo. The top box is a Black Hawk manufactured for Caterpillar as a Serviceman's Toolkit. It still has the cork liners in the drawers. The bottom is a Cornwell 6146.
One of the small drawers seemed like it was for personal stuff. A pair of trifocals, dog tag on its chain (my daughter has misplaced), and most important, the key! Not sure why but there is a hidden compartment under the lowest of the small drawers.

From page 161 http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4004801&postcount=3219 Anyone have any info on the ages of the boxes? Cool find. (I'm finally caught up on this thread)

I guess craigslist buys count here too. John Deere LA105 19.5 HP 42" cut. $500. Picture is from after washing and a little touch up paint and new deck belt. Family was moving to an apartment. Almost bought the 10'x16' storage building as well. But they owed money on it and the payoff and moving costs weren't a good enough deal.

Sumner: you bought Nine's mower. are you shipping it to him? :lol_hitti

nice find and i think anything is game in this garage sale section as far as I've heard or know. Craigs, Kijji, Estates, Auctions, Relatives and you name it because i think it's a great place to show of our good stuff or saves from the scrap heap that we can make like new again.

All: by the way anybody want to share there favorite way to take old labels off of toolboxes and metal cabinets? i was going to just use Goof Off. is that preferred or is there something better. I even thought of using my hand grinder with a wire wheel, but then a full on paint job would need to happen soon after. thoughts from the pros would be helpful.

Muggy is putting it easy, last night it was 80 degrees and 95% humidity after the rain. Can't tell how much rain fall but it was flash flooding for a while!

Good find Sumner, Drives said you found me a mower and I was expecting a turd, but that thing looks great! I'll pm you my new address :lol_hitti

Seriously though, I have been scouring the sales for a riding mower but being a tightwad, I want one for cheap or free. I missed out on a 42" dark green Craftsman yesterday for $300, the guy said he sold it minutes before I called. We just got a new push mower so it's no rush but I can see myself riding around, drinking a cold one while the kids weed eat and edge  When I do find one, I may even have them push mow while I ride around on it checking their work...

One thing on my list that I was able to scoop up was this Husky pressure washer. It was like taking candy from a baby, except the baby was a middle aged lady and the candy, well... it was this like new pressure washer... I saw the ad last night on CL for $45(said it needs work), so I text them and offer $30. Few hours later I get a $35 reply offer and quickly accepted. We meet today and she says her husband used it 3 times, then could not get it to work. The first thing I think is, this lady looks like my mom, I'm practically robbing my own mother here... Then rationality hits me, my mom married a mechanically inclined person, IDK who's mom this is :lol_hitti She pops the gate on her brand spanking new highlander and the smell of spoiled gas hits me, I keep a poker face and hand over the money. When I get home, I drained the few year old gas out and replace it with fresh, then check the plug wire and holy smokes it's corroded. After literally less than two minutes of normal maintenance, it fires right up. I rolled it around to the hose pipe and blasted some mildew off the bricks on the back side of the house. Works like frickin new :will_nil

Here it is after the major rebuild(new gas and plug wire connector cleaned).

Nine: you are hilarious. :lol_hitti

"tip to owners of gas machines big and small please keep fresh gas handy and run your tanks dry if they are going to sit for a spell"

PF: thanks for the links and i think i'm going to start a thread with the Gertsner because it's my first one. also because i'm fairly handy, but this small wood is a little tricky for me and would like to know from the pros what they might do or do different than what i think or Gertsner's video shows.

Beat: just cleaned out and took pictures from all sides and with the drawers out so maybe you can put your expert eye on what i actually have. post over on my new thread i'll have up in 10 minutes. i'll post a link here when i get it up and running. thanks for the help.
