Bought a brand new Snap On 1 3/8" crowfoot for $6, a Mitutoyo digital micrometer for $10, and a Kennedy toolbox for $20. Not screaming deals. The odd thing is the Snap On crowfoot has no "USA", no part number, no date code. It just has "Snap On". I wonder if this thing is a fake.

Madison, I believe the pliers are a sort of pipe wrench/Pliers for smaller pipe, probably 1/2" or less. hard to tell but do the teeth bite into round piece?

I looked at it some more and I found out it actually came from Lancaster, Wisconsin!

I has JCaspers on one side and pat. May 6 13 on it

The teeth looks in great shape and it's straight.

I just happened on the patent too for it! It's a Calk Tongs for horse shoes!

In the last month I have been trying beef up my hand tool collection. I have been searching though a number of junk shops and low end thrift shops that carry tools . This is what I have gotten so far. They all looked much worse originally this is after clean up. Some have new plasti dip handles.

Klein Linemans 8.5in $1 some pitting but good cutting surface
Klein Linemans 7.5in $2
Channellock Linemans 347 7.5in $2
Craftsman channellock 45381 9.5in $3.50
Snapon channellock 9in $1 prenamed
Channellock 3026 snap ring 6in $1.29
Channellock Needlenose 317 8in $2
Utica R2291 Weco 6in $1
Williams PL-46 6in $2
Craftsman slip joint 7in $1.29
:D

For those that have been doing this for awhile what brands might I be missing. The easier brands to spot would for example be Klein, Snapon, Mac, Channellock, Williams, Proto, Knipex, SK. What might be some older brands that might be overlooked. The 2 I know of for example would be Utica and Diamalloy.

Finally found something I have been looking for a long time. I saw this box on the 50's Craftsman Garage thread and have been looking for one ever since!! Found it on CL for $50. Unfortunately the previous owner painted the entire exterior, including the badge, but there is only 1 ding on the lid and it has the red tray as well as a small sliding tray in the top center drawer. seems complete, minus the key.

JB: that is an awesome box and consider the black as your primer coat before you paint it any color you like. there are several members here that have success taking paint off of badges and making them shine again with their true colors.

Adohrn, looks like you got a good set of pliers for <$20. What are those ones that say Amgi? Yea utica made some good pliers. Most of the older USA made pliers are a solid bet. Fuller Japan are nice too IMHO.

jbmorrey, that is a nice box, those are neat, especially with the sliding tray. You may want to try giving the outside a good soak/wipe down with simple green I bet it would take most of the black off while leaving the original grey finish mostly unharmed.

JB--nice pickup--I just got one of those as well from a far REMOTE CL from me after the guy agreed to ship it.. Not as good a deal as I paid more for shipping than your purchase price.. But--original paint and a pair of keys made it worthwhile.. Very cool boxes though--can't wait to get mine!

Zkling the Amgi pliers are Snapon. The Amgi is a really big owners mark. I put plasti dip on the handles just to cover up the last name which is even bigger. It might have killed any resale value, but for a user for $1 its hard to beat.

Some old Cornwell ratchets which were very badly neglected.. The chrome is all but gone, but they work perfectly..

View media item 37963
And the rest--a Crown-Craftsman 24" level which only shows shelf wear, Klein Cutters of various designs, old Estwing and Artisan Carpenters hammers.. Not a great deal overall as these items were all snagged on day-1 of the estate sales.. Oh well--

i'd triple your investment if it wasn't that much to ship all those goodies 3Bay.

maybe some of you have seen that red handled adjustable wrench before but new to me. looks like a great tool for a box with limited space.
Thanks for the offer!
They are a neat wrench. I'm one of the guys who bought one new at Sears.:)

3Bay does the Husky have the socket in the handle so the breaker can be used as an extension?

No, it's the regular handle. I'm not sure I have seen a Husky with the female square in the handle. I know for a fact some bars that had them were MAC, Cornwell, S-K, Williams.

@drivesitfar: No, I found them in my favorite secondhand/tool shop. They had lots and lots more of this stuff. I just grabbed a few things... They were only 1 euro a piece.
All quality steel, Swiss made, USA made and made in England :D

Hi, Redbull
I probably won't be the only one to tell you that BluePoint is one of Snap-On's economy brands. take a look at collectingsnapon.com for catalog pages and lots of info.

How does one get a free ratchet and awl at a swap meet? :D Yea, sometimes snap on isn't even sly about their rebrands. Looks like a good used pair of 420's.

Yeah I know all about blue point, for $2 its hard to pass up. I though it was funny how it is almost identical to the channel lock logo haha. And the freebies I got from one of my supervisors because he knows im a fool for snap on lol, probly shouldve specified that I didn't get them at the swap meet lol

Yeah, they also have a CHN410 and CHN480, maybe a few others.
Interesting that the CHN480 is 102 bucks, if you go on Amazon the Channellock 480 is less than 50 bucks.
Some of Ideal's pliers were also made by Channellock.

I'm pretty sure for a while SO and blue point both sourced their crimpers from ideals 429. I got to admit those orange handle Channellocks from Cornwell? are pretty slick looking.

oh.. and my "not a garage or estate sale find" but my sniped Craftsman box from Pennsylvania.. Thanks for posting the link guys.. :) It's in excellent condition other than the dirt and dust, but not a single dent to be found and two keys for the lock. Pretty happy to get this beast of a top chest.. Really liking the locking mechanism for the drawers too.

Curiously this box has the same part number (9989) as one of my Plomb boxes although it is obviously different.
