Would anyone know how to release the slides on this Union box, it's not like Waterloo, or Craftsman slides where one would just pry slightly on the tang and release, this looks to be going the opposite direction?

And I found after some cleaning it's a 1951?

A locksmith with a machine for cutting flat keys should be able to duplicate it.

Surfing CL today and came across a Baldor Buffer/Grinder on a homemade metal stand for 80 bucks. Its a half horse oldie but goodie with a stone and a wire wheel. Just got it loaded up in the pickup for a cool 65 GW's. I'll post some pics tonight when I get it home and unloaded.

Smooth as silk and runs for a couple minutes after you turn it off. 65 bucks and the treadmill motors, I got two of em, were free. I'd like to find the side cover for the left side.

Picked up this Utica tourqe wrench and Diamond wrench for $ 20.00 at a pawn shop today.
The tourqe wrench is dated '78.

I've been on a Blackhawk tear for a while now, so when I saw this mic on egay for $30 shipped I had to have it. it showed up yesterday. the case is ruff but the mic is perfect(besides missing a couple adaptors).

Kinda slow for me right now. Complete rainout two weeks ago; I was out sick last weekend; And this weekend I'll be in Idaho for my father's funeral service.

I may find a few things at his place, but for the most part he lived his last years in a small mobile home and probably had minimal tools. He probably had more in the way of fishing gear, but I'll be selective about that as well... If I find any good, I'l ship them home (assuming they fit in a flat rate box...) Plus any mementos like photo albums an the like. most of the rest gets given away, donated, or later (larger furniture and the like) sold at an estate sale. That all ties into selling the Mobile home.

I leave tomorrow.

Ben, look in the notch in the drawer slide with a strong light. When the drawer hits the stop you should see a tab contacting the notch. The tab is part of the drawer-side stamped steel rail and is a tang bent outward to catch the notch from "spring" action, even though it is made of mild steel.

Cheaper Craftsman boxes (mostly the smaller ones) used a similar system. You have to gently push the tang toward the drawer as you pull it past the notch. A small flat screwdriver works pretty well for this. The tang must not be at or near the stop when you push it inward or it will catch on the notch. If the tang takes a set from your removal, gently pry it back out, taking care not to stress it too much.

Scored a nice used import 12" height gauge on eBay. No brand marks on it, but it is nicely made with quality grinding and dual columns. Looks just like a Mitutoyo, and I think it probably came out of their factory. Came with a carbide scribing tip and an indicator holder. There is a cal sticker on it from 2005, so it is at least 9-10 years old. Not a spec of rust on it, runs silky smooth. It was posted for $110, the seller accepted my offer for $60. I'm pretty happy with the deal and the tool.

oh.. and my "not a garage or estate sale find" but my sniped Craftsman box from Pennsylvania.. Thanks for posting the link guys.. It's in excellent condition other than the dirt and dust, but not a single dent to be found and two keys for the lock. Pretty happy to get this beast of a top chest.. Really liking the locking mechanism for the drawers too.

I didn't drive.. I offered the guy a price fitting of making it still worth his efforts to disassemble and ship the whole shi-bang my way..

Let's just say-the price he had on the ad was more than fair for the whole setup--and I didn't badger him on the price for splitting the setup..

Nice box!! I found one identical to that about 2 years ago at a sale. The condition isn't as nice since somebody decided that extra holes would really improve the overall look of the box.

If you are into the hobby, it makes a great reloading accessory organizer and 1lb bottles of smokeless fit nicely into the right hand square drawer

bigcaddy--Do you still have yours?? I can only think the "extra holes" you mention would be good for weight savings.. err--your tools falling through the holes! I really love the look of this box--I really wish there was a matching bottom that this would fit onto.. I'd be into it in a minute. But--like everything else--if I can make a few bucks--it does into the "for sale" category.. I have a feeling that selling this will cause me to start kicking my own ***--but the $$$ would also be nice.
