Wow I didn't notice that! I turned it around to try it out, that is cool! It's wierd because you use it "backwards" from a regular pipe wrench.

any chance you can post a picture of the pipe wrench version that you and Knurl are talking about so I (we) can see that? nice find by the way.

did I mention that GJ has be buying more 50 plus year old tools than I thought was possible. I found this Delta Milwaukee radial arm saw from the grandson of the original owner that had a compound miter saw and didn't need it and I paid $95.

then I was going to buy a 10 year old Rockwell 10 inch commercial table saw with some goodies for $200 for a fence and home projects i'm planning on doing this spring and summer and instead bought this old Delta Milwaulkee table saw for $75 on it's original cast iron stand. the hole in the stand was for a planer that is MIA and was never passed on to the person I bought this from. It even came with new belt and also heard it run and cut a piece of wood before taking apart and loading it in my Honda.

so they both work as is, but i'm guessing i'll be asking more questions and trying to restore both of them as I get some time. any tips or suggestions please PM or add to this thread that I read all the time.

DIF, I have a Delta Homecraft TS and jointer/planer, and I'm betting the jointer/planer is the same design the was on that TS stand. Not sure of the timing oif D Homecraft was after or before D Milwaukee, but I know the Home craft was 50's and had TS, jointer/planer and DP options and was in response to the Shopsmith. Smaller DP, 4" jointer, and 8" TS.

The DP had a tilting stand. Some one had one of the tilting DPs here a few months ago and found a non tilting base for it.

I think the DP with the tilt base and the stand that took them all are the least common, the TS and Jointer aren't as hard to find.

This is what I picked up last week. Not really a garage sale find, but I found it cheap on the internet and it was near my house... So here is my new work bench :)! I have been looking for one for a while now, but this one seems exactly what I need. The top is about 4cm thick and it also came with an extra top (not in the pictures). I cleaned it all up, the outside and the inside aswell and it came out really nice I think.
The size is 153x80x85 cm.

Went to my local ReStore and picked up four filing card drawers for $20, I never seem to have enough parts storage!

So, the last week and a half has been an adventure... so much so, that I've been sitting on these for that long and finally am posting about it. So I snagged all these goodies, then we had a wind storm, which knocked down a branch that cracked during that ice storm a few weeks back.... then while doing repairs on the roof (2 softball sized holes), the water heater blew, flooding my basement. Yea, it's been fun. So anyway....

Snagged a 8-Drawer JCPenny's branded Kennedy box for the misses. She now has two Kennedy boxes for her art supplies :)

Also snagged the mystery box and a Brown & Sharpe level for another $20.

Not sure of the make of the little box, but it looks a lot like a Union. Anyway, so inside the mystery box...

... a ton of taps and dies. Mostly Ace and Craftsman, there's Greenfield, Vermont American, and other brands mixed in as well.

....so then I went to my local retool store, and definitely splurged. Why do I now have the obsessive desire to save every BE and Circle H socket I see? Although I did need most of these for my sets.

Mostly BE, a few Circle H, including my first deep 1/2" drive.

I completely know what you mean. If I am out looking for tools and I find one it comes home with me:drool: I love those sockets and am working on a BE set, circle H set and also a Husky set (made by New Britian, looks identical to craftsman execpt the name)...

Hako86, I wonder what the vise looked like that left that sizable impression on the top? Did you see it or was it already removed when you got to see the bench?

Stopped by an estate sale on Saturday and picked up a few things.

5" Columbian 3050 vise
Overhead valve spring compressor (pretty darn nifty design though I have a compact one that does well enough)
Three boxes of sheet rock screws (They had 5 gallon tubs for $5, but I don't think I need 45,000 sheet rock screws!)
2 Fuel Pumps (Ironically needed *exactly* that model of pump less than a day later while working on an Onan generator- what timing!)
Fuel pressure regulator
Sledge Hammer head (Looks to be about an 8 pounder or so, haven't weighed it yet)
Silicone Lube (always handy)
Channelock adjustable crescent wrench
9" long small flat blade screwdriver (Great for reaching in to adjust carb idle speeds)
240VAC garage heater (need to clean it up to get an idea of model, condition) $5 because they didn't have the power to test it.

Total was $45. It was the second day of the sale and there was still a pile of stuff left over.

Wow, you guys have lots of really great finds already this year!

A balmy 12 degrees here at almost noon, so we're still a little ways away from the start of the yard sales, but I did grab this nice 2448 Greenlee box for $75 off of Craigs the other day.

Gorton: you need the guys from the south to send you up some heat. great find on that Greenlee. does it have the wheels too? i just bought a few and paid $200 for one just like that and thought i got a great deal and mine had wheels.

if yours doesn't have the wheels now i think all of these are set up with the 4 threaded holes in each foot to put some on later if you would like them. easier to move around, or if you are just putting in your pickup or on a job you probably won't need them it would be harder for the perps to steal if wheels are off and it's loaded.

now i'm really proud of you for buying that big piece of metal and hauling it around in the weather you currently have. good box and better deal.

It's not quite Minnesota-cold here, but it's sure been a long one, and I can't wait to get out for some deals.

I'd buy every one I could find at near this price, in this condition. Most folks seem to be asking twice that for ones that've been left outside for 10 years. $200 for a decent one with the casters is a good deal, I'd say - I just got lucky on this one.

Didn't come with wheels, but I do have a Greenlee caster set that I got for something like $8 back when HD clearanced them out. Was thinking about bolting it to the bed of my truck, but I've already got it chock full sitting out in the garage, and there it may just stay for awhile.

I bought a bunch if stuff last weekend but decided not to post them. Why? This tread is getting too popular and my posts get drowned out by everyone else's. But I couldn't stay away too long. Here is what I found today plus a few items from last week.

My bench is full of stuff so I had to photograph this in the hallway. My wife isn't that pleased with my piles that creep into her space.

The sale today looked to be from the owner of a sporting goods store. Plus lots of other stuff. I left work for an early lunch and my boss joined me. It's much more fun to go with a friend. This was his first sale but I've been telling him about my great finds and he found this sale online. The item he was most interested in was rolling out the front door just as we were parking and he ended up not buying anything. But he didn't lose hope and found an even better sale we can go to in the morning.

First a few items from last week.
uqaqydap.jpg

1952 NJ Farmer plate hidden on wall behind door. No one looks behind doors and I find good stuff this way

vuramy2u.jpg

Mystery 4. Heyco 29 tool. I'm sure I can figure this out with Google

In to today's sale. Most items were overpriced ($650 for bike from late 90s). But I got all this for $15. He asked 24 but accepted my offer of $15.

e9ape8av.jpg

Nearly full gallon of mineral spirits.

adanyse3.jpg

Mostly full bottle of wd40 and canned air. Amazingly canned air is made in next town over (Branchburg)

syruny9u.jpg

Brushes

zega2yda.jpg

1.5" couplings and caps

5abe7utu.jpg

3 craftsman red handled driver. Are these desirable? Never saw them before

Craftsmsn pliers
"Pro" pliers. Who makes these?

u6yvujug.jpg

Close up. Pro stamped into forging.

yqu2e6a3.jpg

10 pack of warmers

Mystery 1 could possibly be magnesium. Better make sure and toss it in a neighbors leaf burning pile. If you get fireworks, it was magnesium:evil:

The second mystery are lead wad cutters for a .38 or .44. I can't tell from the picture but they are great or making holes in paper targets

You must be right on 2. The home had a lot of reloading supplies.

Google figured out mystery 4 is special pliers to install and remove strain reliefs. All thus time I've been using a pliers and screwdriver. I had no idea there was such a tool. I'm keeping these though only need to use it a few times a year.

It's hard to tell, but could mystery #3 be a ty-wrap gun for tightening and cutting cable ties ?

Funny you mention that. Right next to this tool was a Ty wrap gun (which I also purchased). This tool is more of a crimper. Pull handle and a punch moves forward.

Each press of handle also moves slider in front to advance material 1/4" maybe.

It doesn't look like a key cutter. It looks like a crimper for some kind of insulation displacement connector.

Ive been a bit busy with my work schedule to post much but here are some items i picked up over the past weekend and then during this week.

The Cornwell wrench roll is in really nice shape with only a few spots of chrome flaking at the very tip of the open end. Some light surface rust but that cleaned off right away. The roll was 5.00 and i also grabbed some more loose combo wrenches with sizes over 2":eyecrazy: Each wrench was almost 3 feet long and 15lbs plus!:eyecrazy:

The Proto box is a 9951 and was hidden in the back of the garage, under a work bench. It was filthy dirty, as you can see, but the inside was almost perfect. It needs a new handle rivet and some cleaning and thats it.

Ill post more pictures when i get it finished.:rocker:

Great finds, everyone!
Mattblast,
Is there a COO on those "Pro" pliers? They look to me like the Craftsman Professional pliers I've seen at Sears as far back as the mid-90s.

Richard,
What's the model number on the SO pliers? I found a similar-looking pair last fall that turned out to be (apparently) particularly rare and desirable.

Still not much around here. Did find this at the thrift store today:

Small Proto Phillips screwdriver
Craftsman dykes with deteriorating grips
Channellock 420s. I know I'll have enough of these when there's one in the garage, one in the basement, one in each car, a second one in the basement, one in the living room, etc.

I believe these are Western Forge, just like the non-pro line.

I bought a set of those red drivers back in high school in the 90s and a few are still hanging around but most have been exchanged under warranty. When I trade them in they give me the standard clear-handled ones these days. I think the side cutters are also Craftsman of about the same vintage as the drivers.

My haul from one stop this morning.
For a grand total of $8.50:

This was inside:

I like these little clamps

Inside of the red case has 2 full sets of thin cheap wrenches. I have already filled the drill index.

Not sure what the intended use of this Proto punch with a curved end, but I'm sure I will be glad I have it one day.

Last weekend I saved this Blackhawk jack from a scrap pile at an estate sale. When I asked how much they said it was broken (leaks oil and doesnt lift) and was for scrap only. I insisted I wanted it as something to restore and they told me to take it, I gave $5. I also posted some pics of it in the vintage Blackhawk thread. My family is starting to think im a hoarder with all the old iron I have brought home as future projects. :dunno: Hate to see these things scrapped and cant wait to fix it up and use it again.

Today's sale turned into an adventure, and not in a good way.

The main reason I went was to buy a vintage delta grinder on a stand.

Ended up parallel parking in a ditch and couldn't get out. After seeing the grinder no longer available I offered the buyer to double his money but he decided to keep it. I helped him take it outside and load it into his car then he offered to help free my truck. The rear wheel was not gripping at all and I don't have 4x4. He used his truck to give me a push a foot forward but that didn't help free the truck. And the pushing smashed my brake light and left a big ding in his bumper (sorry about that). Had to call roadside assistance and 30 mins later I was free.

Here is what I ended up with. Funny thing is the the tow guy parked and took a look at the sale after he pulled me free.

$44 total

emybahus.jpg

Saeco melting furnace. $25

ve8aha4y.jpg

Lead ladles - included with furnace

enavu5yj.jpg

USA made boots $1 - LaCrosse

utare3en.jpg

12a charger $5

upe3agyr.jpg

Lead hammer and aluminum blocks $2

uvu5uvy6.jpg

Shackle and poplar

tybe3aha.jpg

Negative canister
3m adhesive remover
Jacobs 1/2 chuck
Craftsman 1/4 ratchet
Dixon Germany hammer (not sure it's function)
$10 for this photo

And a 6' long plug mold wiring section (6 outlets evenly spaced). Still in wrapper $1
