You better go back and see what they are throwing out in the trash.

I wasted my morning at the only Fri sale in my area. I got there early to get a low number, only to find out that the single digits are reserved for their big money regulars. Then had to wait an hour before they opened the doors. Once in, I couldn't find the tools that they said would be there. I asked and was told that the garage wouldn't be opened for another 15min. :wtf:

I was the second one in the garage, and the "tools" they said they had ended up being a few chinese pieces in a pile and the expected yard tools that get stuck in the corners of the garage. The last time my garage was that empty was the day I moved in. I did get one nice piece though, a Record #141 corner clamp (made in England) for $4. That's it.

Hopefully I'll have better luck at tomorrow's sale. :dunno:

The first picture is "as found". The others are after cleaning it up. It's larger than my little aluminum Pony clamps. I only wish there had been a pair. I think I remember WoodWorker's Warehouse selling these in the 90's.

EDIT : I just looked this up. They're still available on Amazon for over $100 each ! :rocker:
This one might be pre Irwin. :D (still a wasted morning though)

Taumac I am in awe...:bowdown::bowdown:

Today I bought a plastic tub of sockets for $40.00 dollars. Altogether it came out to 210 sockets; 196 craftsman, 1 snap-on, 2 Mac, 1 Stanley, and 10 Chinese sockets, for a total of .19 cents per socket.

I made a small haul this morning from a sale that listed "tons of machine tools" It seems the owner must of left them at work becasue thats exactly what was in short supply at the sale. I found a few things but nothing really too exciting.

The wrenches are all Craftsman V code and in great shape.

Plomb DBE pebble wrench 1 1/8 x 1 1/16
Calif Tool 3/4 7/8 DBE
broken Plomb DBE
WF 1/2" short breaker bar in excellent condition.

Lots of 1/4" v code craftsman sockets which i need for a set at work.

Starrett 4" machinist square, B&S marking punch, 48" Starrett steel ruler:beer:
Greenfield tap handle
Tubelox scaffold ratchet
Craftsman 8" pipe wrench
Long wood handled screwdriver

Jeff,

I found a bit brace marked Bell System but they were asking 30.00 for it. Ill go by sometime tomorrow and see if they will deal with me some.

Only two garage sales this morning and not much to pick from. This Craftsman slim tape measure was the only tool find. For a buck, it will be good to carry in my pocket.

And I found this at an antique mall a few weeks ago. I have no use for it, but I never let that stand in the way. I figured I could fab some sort of handle and just mount it to the wall. $3. Too bad the guarantee ran out fifty years ago this month.

Apologies in advance, I'm going to be nitpiky. My OCD won't let it go. :lol_hitti

The
Craftsman 3/8 rat with arrow head shaped selector
is a 3/8 Teardrop ratchet with a Butterfly selector (as described in the instructions in the rebuild kits). The model number is #4378. The model number on the breaker bar is #44363

you may feel free to resume ignoring me now

OBTW - nice finds.

thanks jake, i knew there was someone here that had a pic of it as their avatar but i forgot who. thanks for the p/n's as well.

the rat was very sloppy so i took it apart. it just needed a new ball bearing, which luckily i could find at work. now it is smooth as butta :)

I went to one garage sale today as it was just down the road from me(8 mins drive) and I was the first in line for the garage.

This is my $40 haul! (although B17 puts my little haul to shame....:lol_hitti

Couple of snap-on hammers, and some body dollies but only one is marked snap-on

img_1444.jpg

Air hammer, only one chisel and a broken spring, need to test it still but figured it's worth a shot.

img_1446.jpg

img_1447.jpg

a Fork, new Britain i think and a brass rod and a Milton tire gauge inflator.
img_1448.jpg

SK Wrenches, i got MM from 19-7 but missing the 18,17, and 16. The standard set has from 1" to I think 9/16" and then the sockets are SK, a few MM and some standards. I got a few mid length too, hardly see theses styles in the wild so I snagged all I could find. The hex and torx are craftsman and the long hex is a Proto, the big flat head is a proto.

also this bin tray,

That was it today!

I need to go through my tool box and figure out what I am missing and what I got extras of that I don't need and see if I can trade for some of the ones I am missing for what i got.

One stop today, 2nd day of an estate sale, pretty far out in a small town. I paid $27.35 for everything shown:

At first I thought the box on top was SK, then I found the front cover. It's an Artisan, Gambel's department store brand (see AA for more info). It's in great shape:

There are two =Craftsman= lug wrenches on the white cart, which is for:

No, I didn't get the Porto-Power. Still a cool label, though.
I found some loose stuff, too:

=Craftsman= hack saw, chisels by Snap-On (1) and Vlchek (2), Champion DeArment (Channellock), er, channellocks, and various styles of slip-joint pliers by Crescent, Motor Spec (Diamond), and Challenger.
Finally, the wrenches:

Craftsman underline/long-C short offset DBE (Outlaw?), DBEs by SK and Williams, combos by Action, Armstrong, and Craftsman (the small one), and DBEs by Williams, S-K Lectrolite, and Vlchek.

Bluebolt sends out a pre YS award to 9 about 4 hours ago and where's 9? did he get mugged or is the item so heavy he needs to rent a moving truck?

Flatin: really nice looking box and cart and a few tools too. good job saving them.

Wow, that is quite a haul Madison069! I envy you the score on all that S-K goodness!

Yes, thank god he showed up like 5 mins after I won those lots, he said there may have been a bidding war had he known about them.

SCORE!! Love the PP Cart and that Artisan box is CLEAN!

Thanks! I'm thinking of starting a SK collection so this is a good start.

I'm curious what nine4GMC has gotten!!!

I think I have a SK-Tools wrench or two, I'll see if they're still around.

You and everyone else !
Nine always seems to show up with lollypop finds. (you know, the kind that get sucked on) View media item 38978 :lol_hitti

There were only like 5000 lots of mostly ****, ask BB. The auctioneer finally asked if there were any particular items that anyone would like to bid on in the many rooms, just so they could wrap up today. There is still 50-60% of the lots left but they were going for $2.50-5 per table near the end(5-10 lots per table) :shocking: before they let us pick. Worked out well for buyers but not so much for the Auction company or owners.:rocker:

I had full intentions of going out today... but overslept, lol. Maybe i'll run into something on my way to the car show in the morning...

Imagine what you missed...:lol:Be sure to take pics of the car show.

Pics coming soon after we unload and take a break.

I took my son to an afternoon sale today. They opened at 2pm but we arrived about 30 minutes early and missed a porta-band and a Milwaukee impact driver.

This sale was small - the majority of items were in 1 car garage but it was packed. Even 20 minutes after the crowd was gone we were able to find some good stuff. In May head over tomorrow to do some digging as in sure there is more hidden away.

Matt: we were just talking over on the Craftsman Block Grinder thread how those stands are worth almost as much as the grinders. nice find.

94: nice post a bit ago, but still not a peep about what WTF you bought. since BB posted a pre **** at 8 am some of us have been a little curious to say the least since we know what you usually are able to find. please enlighten if you have time.
