Great scores guys! I can't wait to see what 9four got!

I didn't score anything too spectacular, but there is a lot of little stuff, mostly consumable tools...

First up is a Thorsen Socket box, I think this is early. and probably for a 1/2" set:

Can anyone tell how old it is from this pic of the label?

The next decent stop got me the plane for $4, and the one after that the weird shop made vise out of a free pile (Tools in a Free Pile, I've seen everything! Someone else got a coo old wood bar clamp just before I got there...):

Also from the Free pile. small grinder motor. no guards, but it runs. I'l have to see if I can get a make/COO using the SG trick on the rattle can goop job...

OK all the rest came from YS #4, and all but two pieces were from one box. I bought this whole box for $20. The box itself is a ******, or maybe for light craft stuff with either SWMBO or the girls, if not, I'll sell it off, it's a stax-on...

It resembles a Kennedy 3 drawer 520 series even down to the little plastic handles, but its tinny thin import ****.

What was inside was another story entirely!


I also picked up this backpacker's saw after the box for $2. my second one but my first one was complete with sheath and plug for the match capsule in the handle.

And starting to detail the contents of the box:

about a 3 oz brass hammer, two parts cleaning brushes, A toy hammer, probably from a Handy Andy toolbox, A GSM style hammer screwdriver set, and the ratchet is a Thorsen; you can push on the switch and two pins pop out on the socket side and eject the socket! That was the other thing not in the box I had it from elsewhere and had it included when I bought the box.

So Now I have a Vampire ratchet to go with my Frankenstin ratchet!

A bunch of bits right angle drivers and the like, as well as some SS surgical tongs (for sponging out? ), A Greenlee wood chisel, inside calipers and a carving knife of some sort, possibly for leather work.

This was the first thing that caught my eye. a near complete set of Chesco ball Allen drivers; well 9 are Chesco, one is Bondhus, (duplicate 3/16) and the 2 smallest are missing.

a bunch of Allens, a handful of chuck keys, mostly filler but also in there is a SO feeler gauge and a decent Radius gauge, plus a few other odds and ends.

Ok, first up from the third garage sale this morning(first two were bust).

=Craftsman= Miter saw in decent shape. $7

Fourth garage sale, I got a magnifying lamp to tide me over til I find a real Dazor magnifyer(btw Matt, that's a Dazor lamp you have ) for $0.50 and a bag of artist paint and brushes for $1(shown in another pic).

Then we hit the auction for some action. Some of you may remember late January I went to this auction that got rescheduled due to ice/snow. There were a few things I wanted and went back for, I got most of them today!

First lot I won was fans, all for $20. Two Robins Myers, Emerson and a bunch of fantastic plastic, pun intended.

Second lot for me was these two buffers for $20

I got all excited after winning the buffers and then my third lot was the knife maker style 2"x48" sander for a whopping $20 smackers

They got in to a bunch of appliances so we were taking a break on a couch when my phone rung....It was BlueBolt and he was standing in the doorway! We went talking and I showed him around the auction then found out a big box of knife blade rough blanks went for $5 while I was goofing off. :embarassed: Can't win them all... We talked for a while then he had to attend other plans so back to bidding for me.

I missed out on a couple other items but most of it was literally **** so bidding fell off to almost nothing. Bidders were saying $1? Auctioneers would say, come on, please at least $2.50 before combining lots... It was sad and more like a funeral near the end, for real. Luckily I stayed it out, after hours of multiple lots pulling just a few dollars at a time, the auctioneers let us pick what items we wanted to bid on specifically and things went faster...

I bartered with another bidder and got some dishes for $5, then with another bidder I swapped a coffee can of sockets(mostly Williams) for the models to flip.

And the real reason I hung around all damn day was this lot I got for $30, would have got for $5-10 had this other guy not been eyeballing my vise...

Now we get into the more serious consumable tools:

These almost all appear to be top grade machine shop tools. GreenField, and the like...

7 SAE Dies and 11 chasers

35 Taps, some still new and several "sets" of taper, plug and bottoming taps. Plus some EZ outs and a Helicoil #10-32 installation tool

A mix of fractional, letter and number bits; more than 40 drills 1/4" or larger; more than 60 smaller than 1/4", including ten in the 61-80 sizes in the round drill rack. Many have never been used.

A set of jewlers broaches:

Some Reams, cutters and center drills.

I started the day at the crack of dawn just to get a low number at an estate sale that didn't open until 9am. I was in the first batch to get in the door (#14). (they passed out over 150 numbers) There was a lot of nice stuff, including a 1/3hp block grinder in great shape, but they wanted $75 for it. It was worth it, but I'm too cheap for that price. There was a 4 1/2" Simplex swivel base vise for $85 as well. Most of the marked prices were high. I went for the unmarked stuff and did well.

JEFF - they had a b/w Bell System's sign for $325 in great shape.

and 50+ sheets of 180grit Norton sandpaper (I'll never have to buy 180g again )

I left a lot of good stuff behind. I just couldn't pay their prices.


The second stop on the way home is the one that killed my wallet. I kinda screwed myself, but I can live with it. They had a Husqvarna backpack blower with a $199 tag on it. The retail on that model is around $229. I jokingly asked if they'd take $100 cash. They said yes without batting an eye. So there you are, I had to hand over the money and carry it out. It's the lower end model, but that's ok. It will get into the places that my walk-behind won't get into.

well it's been a long time since I've posted. in fact it was last year so hello again to everyone. I hope you and your families are all well. before I spend the next two hours catching up, I'll post my find today. 1 Estate Sale had numerous tools and I bought a few. nothing spectacular but some nice finds never the less. I look forward to reading about all of yours.

Nine, wow man, I'm not sure which is more drool worthy the vises or the belt grinder. I'd probably have to lean towards the grinder. If it runs smooth and the contact wheel is in good shape.

Nine: even though the grinders and the wilton and the other stuff were on their own YS deals, i'd be skipping and laughing if i could find the baldor sander for that much. hopefully it works or do you magic to it and i'm wondering if you know how much it sells new for? nice and i was happy to wait even if BB set us up before you had even left the sale.

Outlaw: i'm guessing you needed a few of those and happy to see you found them. I bet it is hard for you to keep all that stuff organized after you move it off your blueprint.

MSG: glad to have you back and it looks like you know what to look for because a nice selection.

Jake: that little parts or screws box is an awesome find. can't say that I've seen one like that before and surely a keeper. also even though you paid as much for the Blower as Nine did for his moving truck full of stuff if you need it you need it and better than half price for like new ain't bad.

Stanley 746 I beleive.

I'm not much for clamp on vises, but that one is cool with the enclosed screw and Stanley name in the slide. A little handle straightening and rust removal looks like it will be ready to use. How big is it roughly?

The Stanley is a small vise, maybe 8 inches long.

My 745 and 765 (Sweethart Era)Stanley Clamp on's have 2.5" wide jaws, and yes they are built just like the larger machinist's vises with the slides, and enclosed screws. Some even had removable/replaceable jaws. I'd like to find one of the bolt down versions.

At first I thought the box on top was SK, then I found the front cover. It's an Artisan, Gambel's department store brand (see AA for more info). It's in great shape:

Good stuff, Flatintoone - and everyone - some very cool finds.

If I were a betting man, I would wager that the Artisan box was made by S-K for Gamble-Skogmo. Same paint, same drawer pulls, etc.

It is, SK made Artisan items for a while. They didn't even try to hide the fact that they made Artisan ratchet and sockets as it had the same patent numbers on the ratchet!

Outlaw, your wish , to some degree, is my command. How about an image of two center swivel Stanleys?:

The burgundy vise is a Stanley "Victor Jersey" No. 776, the smaller black vise is a Stanley Sweetheart No. 675, The 776 has 3 inch jaws, the 675 has 2 1/2 inch jaws.

And that vacuum base you picked up; I had one when I was a kid for model building. I got it for Xmas. I eventually busted the chromed nut. The threaded section snapped off the flange.

Yes the Stanleys are mine! The first one came out of a garden shed either last spring or spring of 2012. The other from an auction this Jan. Got a lot of very cool stuff, most of the loot is sitting under my porch covered by some tarps. Pickup was 20 & 21 Jan. We were hit with a pretty big storm on the 21st so I did not have enough time to sort things out and get them inside. More on this stuff later, 'cause I got some Grand clamps.

I have a second vacuum vice, missing the rubber base, if you need the top let me know, perhaps we can work something out.

I just got picked by a Bluebolt! Always cool meeting like minded people but to put a face with a name and handshake was really great!

Nothing compared to the scores some of you guys made this weekend but I did pick up a handful of items at the flea this morning.

Small c-clamps by Brink & Cotton, Adjustable and Cincinnati Tool, new looking 10” mill ******* file by Oberg (Sweden), Mayhew center punch and Dayton ½” chisel, Bonney BP hammer in need of a handle and a 50’ Lufkin Ni-Clad steel tape. The Lufkin case is a little rough but the tape itself is as clean as new and it winds right up. Total for the day; $3.50.

I apologise in advance if I have covered these before, but needs dictated that today I had to give the garage a little move around (It is STILL full of parts for the new kitchen, we hope to have that situation under control soon!)

In any case, all the moving about unearthed all these purchases that had gotten hidden before I'd even had a good look through them!

First up (pictures 1-5), a large, very well made cantilever box & it's contents I picked up at a boot sale (like a swap meet I think?) all in at £20 ($32) Can anyone decipher the name on the ratchet?

The next one (pics 6 + 7) is a rather battered cantilever box that I just couldn't refuse, I had taken a ride down to Leicestershire to pick up some drawer units and a vice, and this was offered to me for £5 ($8.25) It's got a lot of dross in it, but some of it may come in handy (the ratchet to the right of the box is un-named and broken, I will use it as a trade in with the snap on man next time I need to.)

If I can find the pics, I'll show you all the drawer units I picked up.
