PG, thanks for the offer, but mine is long gone. Heck probably before I finished HS. It is an interesting little vise (Exact same concept as the big ones HF and other importers sell sans the rubber base, which never worked well...) but building slot cars and bending stuff was beyond its abilities...

One YS stop planned; one thing from it. a pair of SO fender protectors.

And a Freecycle Stop, for a Dazor Drafting table lamp, (at least that's what I always used them for) I replaced the cord as it was a section of orange extension cord, and it was hanging from the wire nuts... :shocking:

Today I headed back to the sale from yesterday to see what else I could find. I expected to get some deals on larger items but my truck would not start so I took the car while the battery was recharging (charger purchased a few weeks ago at a sale). That almost guaranteed that I would need to go back later to pick stuff up.

I actually tried to avoid large items but couldn't resist this cabinet for $10

Plus I picked up a lot more for an additional $20 including two 1950s NJ plated not shown because someone grabbed them out of my container before I paid. There were only a few people there but the thief must have paid and left before I checked out.

Here is what was in cabinet.

tu6y7ety.jpg

I have no need for shotgun shells. Any GJ member in NJ that wants them is welcome to them.

Containers of MEK and DuPont rifle powder are empty.

u3apana2.jpg

Coleman catalytic heater
'68 Chevy truck brochure
6 new 5 gal lids that have sealing twist off top

my5ahupu.jpg
ygerabuj.jpg
u8y9areh.jpg

Owner paid $1526 for it new!

Plus lots of other hardware and tools that I will eventually use

meququpy.jpg

2 new packs of PC-7
y9u2eba4.jpg

2 new drill sets
da5eheqe.jpg

Carbide lantern funny thing is a while ago I found a can of fuel pellets. Can fuel still be purchased?

Cool stuff. Yes, search for calcium carbide. It is still sold for the old toy cannons and lanterns

When the next major hurricane wipe out the power grid in the North East, MattBlast will probably be the only person wandering around with a Carbide Lamp. Very cool!

I stopped and made a curb side pickup yesterday. I picked up a Coleman 4 Gallon compressor. I figured it was junk but grabbed it anyway. The piston "rings" are shot so no compression. I stripped off the fittings and stuff and put the tank at the curb in front of my place. Is there any use for a 4 gallon tank - it seems fine?

Since I'm currently without a compressor I took a chance stopping. I got a handfull of hardware out of the deal.

Cheers

Jim

Hopefully the hurricane won't soak his calcium carbide supply. :shocking:

Jim, you can use the tank as a portable air supply once you get a compressor to fill it. Just need to use some of the old fittings and maybe pick up a fitting or two, reuse the gauge etc.

I went west yesterday and all I could find worth buying was this Vacuum Vise, complete with box ($5.00 from Moon).

JKB

I almost went there, the Moon township sale, but i found one closer in my back yard as I live on the south side. Kind of glad I didn't go but would have like to meet ya!

Snap-on YA642 2 ton floor jack, and Craftsman 3 1/2 ton floor jack. They both work. Cleaned them both up after I took them home for $30.

What can you guys tell me about the box? The tray was a bit beat up, I massaged it back into shape somewhat. I'll deal with the rust issue later. One of the latches doesn't spring back anymore. Can that be fixed, or are replacements available?

Along with the box I picked up some other US made tools. The pliers are from Heath Kit, I thought that was cool. Pressure gauge goes to 60 psi, might come in handy in the future. The tiny set of sockets are driven by the hex wrench, marked size and made in USA, but no manufacturer.

The last picture is what I think is a nail set, is that right? The inner part is spring loaded, it's retracted in picture three. Anyone know anything about it?

Got all of this for $20.00. All USA

O heck yea, any day of the week. Auto strippers and deep clamps.

 Congrats

That toolbox has the heritage logo on it, around the 50's and maybe part of the 60's I think.

I'd say it is more late 40's to very early 50's. After that they dropped the wrinkle grey/blue and went to the more known hammered silver-ish. Cool box. Can you take a pic of the top handle? Is it rough cast?

Check out the GJ Repurposing thread for the use of an old compressor tank to make a great little wood burning upright heater.

Lehmans sells it but it's a bit expensive. I hope you are planning on opening a mine because 10 lbs of the duff will last you quite a while:lol:

I failed to post my favorite find from the Saturday estate sale. A primitive box with a full set of letter stamps. Pretty old I'm guessing. This estate sale was the best I have ever seen. The guy had a carport with attached 25 x 15 woodshop and a two story barn in back FILLED with blacksmith tools an anvil, etc. I missed the big stuff as my no. was 44, but got plenty of small tools like this. I think these are for stamping leather, but would love to hear your 2 cents worth . . .

Hemlock,
That spring loaded item is not a nail set. It is a spring loaded center punch used for marking holes when you are hanging doors and door hardware and anything else where you want to mark the exact center of a round hole. It is made by Stanley. Use it many times for putting hinges onto a door. You put the hinge on the door, put the marker into the screw hole and tap the end. Perfect mark where you drill to put the screw in. No offset screws that way.
Enjoy, it is a wonderful tool for that use.
Cheers,
JimDon

Msgt, those stamps could be for wood, but if they are hardened you can stamp mild steels, brass, copper, & aluminum as well.

Cool indeed. I'm fairly certain it is a late 40's box. As for replacement latches. Well you could most certainly find something close, but finding an exact match may be difficult. If all it needs is just a flat spring for tension, that could be pretty easily made and re-riveted back on. It's not extremely critical, just helps to keep the latches over the hump.

..haven't posted in awhile... Nothing "stolen" perse'--but then again--I'm not telling what I paid..

If anyone can help identify the maker of this cool old belt sander-please shoot me the info.. I've got a really nice Reliance 1/2hp 3450rpm motor with it along with step-pullys that really hums nicely... Almost brand new it seems..

Other stuff found is the cool new "thinking pedestal" (aka-drafter/machinists stool), some old SO 1/2" Drive sockets, K-D and Blackhawk distributor wrenches, Bonney, Channel-Lock 7R's, 4 x Bit Braces from Millers Falls, Stanley, and two un-branded older versions, giant Cincinnati C-Clamp, smaller Mark C-clamp, bunch of old Craftsman corner clamps, some Jorgensen wood clamps, Blackhawk 3/8" breaker bar, Craftsman pry bar, Barcalo wrench, Big Fulton cutters,Vaco Screw-holding driver, Giant Apex impact with 1/2-3/4" adapter, Huot Drill Index, giant Stanley Yankee driver w/bits, bunch of padlocks with combo's (won't need any more locks for the rest of my life..), old Nicholson s-file, some old DurChrome metric wrenches (not pictured and some other goodies in the vinegar bath)

The tensioner on that sander looks like my Craftsman but the base is different. :dunno:

:+1:
It IS a 103.08011 4x36 belt/disk sander, or one of it's variants. It would have been either Craftsman or Dunlap branded. I've seen the same model number under both labels. Yours is missing the 8" disk sander for the side, and the table/shelf for the belt (pic 3). Otherwise it is in good shape and usable.
I LOVE mine !

Set it up with a 2" pulley on both the motor and belt arbor, and run a 1725-1750 rpm 1/3hp motor on it.

Nine - I believe it is the same as yours, but looks different because the belt is set up vertical instead of horizontal.

Here are pictures of mine. I still haven't found a copy of the manual yet.
