Gotta ofer you a belated You **** on that grinder !
With that serrated wheel that thing will really hog metal.

That is a rubber contact drive wheel, it is a belt grinder. And yes he ***** something fierce on that one, especially with the later added stand.

Not certain, but that new Britain tool looks similar to one I bought a year ago. Research turned up that it was for adjusting bands on fordomatic transmissions.

Nice stuff, Ben. Also being in Ohio I like your license plates!

ditto, and i didn't know old coleman stuff qualified for the garage journal...guess it makes sense...that's where you store it, in the garage.

i guess i should show off my 502 that i bought off of c/l in cleveland for $20.
made in may 1968. the pump had a leak so $9 later after going to wally world and buying a pump rebuild kit, it functions. it still needs cleaned as the top ring of the burner wasn't working and it was full of really old unleaded gasoline.

the last pic is today's lunch break score. 2 bonney wrenches: a #1037 "Bonaloy" DOE in 1-1/4 and 1-1/16, and a #2805L offset DBE in 1/2 and 9/16. grand total: 50 cents.

I've never let it being a non-tool GS buy stop me, heck I posted an inflatable boat a week or so ago, and have routinely posted other non tools as well, along with the tools...

I think we should vote at the end of the year to see who win the suckage of the years. So far, there are quite a bit of suckage deals. Since Outlawmws started this thread, he should created the voting poll at the end of the year.

Not much today. The sale was poorly run, the gatekeeper was inconsistent and flaky. Many of the marked items were WAY overpriced (an iron lamp stand encrusted in rust and missing the socket and holder - $25 ???). By the time I got into the basement, what little there was that was good was gone.

I did find a couple c-clamps, a striking bar (B.O. Paine Co.) , and a thin bottle I'll use for linseed oil. All for $8.

I'll probable miss the sales tomorrow, I have to spend the day with the family accountant getting our taxes done. 3 generations - 1 appointment :willy_nil

Nah, don't want people tempted to falsify what they paid; and for newcomers, wading through probably 300 pages of thread probably isn't in the cards.

We have good times with the threads, and people have a place to talk about them with like minded people, so i'm inclined to let it flow.

Went to one sale this morning and that was after they had a presale:mad:

I can't fault them though. They had lots to sell and a short amount of time to do it. Since i was working that day, i had a friend go by and he grabbed a few things for me. This is what i was able to drag home this morning.

P&C 1332 ball peen hammer, its huge!!
Paschall 1306 hammer, maybe 6-8oz Both of these are Plomb companies
15" crescent wrench
Starrett 6" steel rule
Craftsman side cutters
Assorted taps
12" proto 3/8 extension
Woodworking vise operating handle
CDI 2" indicator for engines/pistons
Vise grips
Huge brass cotter pin, 6"+
Plomb chisel
Snap on 50th year anniversary edition screwdriver
Nuffield Organization "Union Jack" decals for British Cars. They owned the Morris Co which owned a bunch of british car companies like Morris and MG. I grabbed about 15 of these, new in the little envelope.

Here are a few more items from that sale and one i hit last week.

Baldor 7" grinder wheel cover

The adjustable lamp has a broken socket so it has been getting fixed all week. Its got some age and grime on it but it works great and looks cool.

The last item is the reason they call me Bigcaddy. That odd looking thing in the back of the picture is a 1959 cadillac upper dashboard. Its not an easy part to find but i saw it from across the yard and knew what it was the second i saw it.

That should pay for my trip to the sale and then some:lol:

Im not sure. I grabbed it for the amusement quality but realized later it was about 2lbs worth of brass. Its either scrap or a paperweight.

i wouldn't be surprised if you found a big hunk of steel to use it on after it's a paperweight for a few days.

don't often see one quite that big and maybe buff off the grime and shine up the brass. GOOD EYE.

i stopped in a sale and found an almost brand new Proto half inch ratchet for $10, Proto 1/4 breaker for $4, a couple hammers for $2 and $3 and the snap on phillips for $.50. they had an ad saying they had several vises and they were over priced and not even good for a parts vises so at least walked away with something.

I believe they are used quite a bit in marine applications. Good find on the punch set, they are handy.

Well I hate to admit it but it's March 28th and this was my first sale of the year - it has been so cold in NE IL that thi was the first sale I've seen in my area (estate sale). Didn't arrive until 10:30 and all the early birds had picked through a lot, not to mention that everything was overpriced. But I did dig through a big bucket of screwdrivers and pliers and came up with the following for $7 -

Small Snap On philips stubby
Snap On pick
Mini Kraeuter wire pliers
Small set of USA Vice Grips
Fuller side cuts
Snap On hose clamp pliers date stamp 1971 I believe

Wow, I'm surprised that the vultures didn't sniff out the SnapOn at the bottom of the bucket before you got to them. Nice find.

I know, but it was a big rusty bucket with probably 50 pieces/imports in it - I am always amazed that people won't take the time to dig.

also a pair of bolt cutters that actually might cut a bolt. about 2 foot long and were $15. Patent date is 1892 so who knows how old these are, but they should clean up nicely.

a chunk of aluminum for $3 and a brass hammer for $10 so i can gently nudge some rusty vises when i need to. and doesn't everybody need a grinding wheel for their hand grinder? $4for that and not sure how to ring test that one.

have a great weekend everyone.

BC, Great find! Hit that puppy with Mothers and make it shine! Then its a great paperweight/conversation starter for your desk! I have one about that size in steel.

DIF: Great find on the punch. Even better it has the set of punches! Its SO much easier than drilling when you need holes in sheet metal! All of mine are Whitney Jr. No. 5's. your's is maybe the second of that make I've seen, but they are good punches.

So the grinder motor I got last weekend Ain't staying. After getting some of the paint off it says Made in China.

I did get some more paint off the label (and the label off the motor) It's a sears, (possibly craftsman) grinder motor. It's small, 5" dia case, 8-1/2" end to end on the case, shafts stick out from there, Probably 1725 RPM. I thought it might fit in a Med Flat rate box, but it won't. Large FR it will.

So if anyone wants the thing, they can have it for the cost of shipping (FR; probably $16)

I inherited a set very similar to that. Not sure what I'll use if for either, typically I'd just drill something of that caliber.

After a rather long dry spell I picked these up for $56 I thought the Athol and Parker were the gems of the deal. But as it turned out they had damage to them, more about this in the vise section. The Parker and the Athol had some unseen damage.

T4: did you need a wheelbarrow to haul those out of that sale? i would have paid that much for anyone of those bigger vises and maybe more. also the little orange vise with the swivel pin on it looks very cool too.

i'm betting you found that the bigger one without a name on it is the oldest and maybe the gem? the swivel jaw Anthol vise unless it has damage i can't see in your pictures looks like a keeper too.

just curious how you ended up paying only $56?

nice work

He wanted $20 for the Athol, $30 for the parker, $1 for the hammer and $6 for the other three vises. Then he said just make it $56. Who Am I to argue I said Ok.

Great buy and even though i saw on the Vise Thread you had some damage on a couple of the vises you still deserve a YOU **** since you did pay full asking price.

i bet you didn't even ask him to help you load them in the car?

what is the brand of the little orange vise that attaches to the lip of a bench and that swivels?

Block sanders, rasps, body hammers, dollies, spoons, a slide hammer, plus a jack that doesn't work, all of $45. Some Blue Point and Proto hammers in there but mostly Fairmount.

Going to be a quite weekend here I think. The weather guessers all said it would start rainogn at about 1 AM... It's now past 10, and still no rain... :tard:

One promising to open at 7 never showed and I went by twice; 7 & 8... The second was setup, but no tools. This is what I did get:

A Mercury Candy Thermometer; cause I NEED more toxic materials at my house!

attachment.php

An all brass Diets No. 20 "Junior' lantern, looks never to have been used...

attachment.php

And a vintage (at least) oscillating finger chopper. "Eskimo" by McGraw Electric, Ont. Canada! I was expecting US made not an import!

It runs but only one speed, The cord has definitely been replaced, I'm betting the switch as well and they may have "lost" a second speed, I'l have to look into that...

$20 all told

Michael: looks like you can open up your own body shop with all that stuff you bought today for only $45.

Outlaw: nice stuff and is the bride going to use that to make some sweets.

T4: Stanley sure made some great stuff in the old days didn't they? that little guy would get my attention if it was sitting on a bench for sale.

lots of daylight left guys so best of luck to all
