I stopped in to a family run estate sale on my way back from my tax appointment today. Man, I wish I could have been there when the door opened ! The guy was a cabinet maker. Every room in his basement was purposed for different tasks. A sanding room, a laminating room, a cutting/jointing room, an assembly room, a clean room, and a general purpose workshop.
The rooms were small and cramped.

By the time I got there, most of the good handtools were gone, but the place was still packed with misc stuff (mostly chicom). This guy didn't have jars full of mixes screws, he had cookie tins full of them - floor to ceiling ! As well as wine boxes full of mixed hardware. I debated with myself whether to grab a few, but decided that I didn't need to add to my own pile. :willy_nil

Most of his equipment was newer (80's to 00's) but he did have an early 70's or late 60's Delta RAS. I was surprised that the resellers didn't grab those or the laminate machines (edge banding, not documents). It took a lot of rummaging through sticky drawers (why are my hands in another man's sticky drawers ???? :lol_hitti), but I managed to find a few things that others had missed. I made it out of there covered in fine sawdust, but only spent $10. :D

My haul was :

a 3-roll extendable laminate roller
a J-roller
22 assorted (retail grade) pegboard hooks (I just put up 27' of pegboard in my shop)
a 2 3/8" forstner bit (china)
a never used Cman #505624 Mortising Hold-Down
a never used Cman #9-2463 Mortising Attachment in original box w/instruction sheet. (this is for a 13 1/2" throat DP, but I think I can make a new plate to fit my 15") This is a Long C__ tool from 1950 according to the date on the instruction sheet.
it also included a #9-2420 3/8" Hollow Chisel in box (also unused, no bit)

aannnnnnd,
a nylon tote to carry my pile

Not too bad, considering there was only one sale with tools in my area and I started my morning with the accountant doing taxes. :lol_hitti

Had a pretty fair haul this week and especially today.
Earlier in the week I answered a CL ad for a like new HF bench top drill press. I was about to buy one new with coupon for $55. I have a good floor model Craftsman in the garage but wanted something light duty in the basement.
This one popped up for $20 and I was on his front porch quick. He literally bought it for a project that required 100 holes drilled and then wanted it gone. It is spotless, not even dusty.

Today started with one estate sale that netted a bunch of hand tools. 4 Channelock pliers, 5 C-clamps, a Channelock Linemans pliers, an old Model A Ford pliers and, 3 like new Stanley screwdrivers. All for $10

Second stop at a local pickers shop netted another set of old Ford tool kit pliers, an old Model A era end wrench, and a decent adjustable wrench, $1 each.
Also a nice old bike light to go on my cruiser bike project $6. And finally a cool old industrial lamp fixture perfect to light up a dark corner of the garage.

The final find was by accident spotting a VFW having a rummage sale and amid the sea of junk, trinkets and knick knacks was one older gentlemen with this old Daisy Model 94 BB Gun to add to my collection. Only $15 and this could be a real score as it may date back to the late 50's - early 60's and be quite valuable.

All in all a pretty good day of fun for not a lot of investment.

I went to 2 sales around the corner from each other. I picked everything up in the pics below for $8.00

The framing square is a Stanley "Sweetheart" - great condition.
The spool of wire is very fine steel wire - 5# spool. Plenty left.
An unused Hubbell 15A male plug end.
An empty OTC box - probably for a ratchet set?
A Millers Falls punch.
A Champion Tack Lifter - the handle is slightly dry rotted - might rehandle it.
An Armstrong DOE wrench
A Williams SOE wrench
2 pairs of Snap Ring Pliers - 1 from each sale - same MFG.
A pair of Channel Lock slip joint pliers.
A Barcalo tack puller
A cheap magnifying glass.

I actually went back to the first sale after I found the snap ring pliers at the second sale - to put them back together. I need a fine peice of spring wire - where can I find that?

Cheers

Jim

You definitely ****! I never see body stuff around here.

Answered an ad to pick up a Craftsman block grinder and stand and ended up spending the better part of an hour talking to the seller and helping her out with information about other items she had for sale. Her husband passed last summer and he was an avid woodworker and auto mechanic so she has a lot of things to go through. In addition to the grinder I picked up c-clamps by Craftsman, Brink & Cotton and Fuller, a file and two additional handles, US made nipper, Petersen 5WR vise grip, 6” Proto adjustable wrench, Craftsman alignment tool and a 6” wire wheel. The hand saw is a 20” Jarnbirger (Sweden) with a nice medallion and brass handle screws and screw caps. The seller insisted on gifting it to me since during our conversation it came up that my grandparents were Swedish immigrants. Not pictured is a sizeable amount of peg-board tool holders and hooks.

Had quite a couple of days. Friday I picked up a few things at estate and yard sales, followed by an Auction on Sat evening. But I left my camera at the shop so the pics will have to wait. To summarize I got back to the shop with new wood turning tools, a pallet truck, Krebs electric spray gun, tape measure, vintage fan, Kennedy machinist chest, model boat kit and a few random small pieces. The pallet truck is the best deal of the weekend. It is this model and I paid what the guy thought was scrap price ($25) as it had a problem. I added about an oz of hydraulic oil. Problem gone.

Details on the rest with pics later.

There is way too much suckage on this weekends pages! Nice hauls to all of you. I know I'm an addict because I didn't get out this weekend and I'm having withdrawl symptoms. I couldn't pass up a metal Crescent socket box for $1 at a thrift store today. I don't collect Crescent, and really don't want it. I just did it to feel better. Is there a doctor in the house?

Raining all weekend, so no local sales. Did attend an indoor sale of sorts on Friday. Weekend electronics guy is selling out, wants to get out of the business of going to shows and selling things, so he opened his barn to me so I could look around.

He said "everything in here is for sale, including all the stuff left in here by the previous barn owner". I saw a wrench out of the corner of my eye, one of the few tools in there) and 4 old C-clamps. He said $15 for all that. So here they are.

4 C-clamps, 3 are 4" and 1 is a 5". Only one is marked with a maker, "Cincinnati Tool Co.". The rest just have "MALLEABLE" on them. But they look old enough to be USA made, and not recent imports.

slip-joint pliers are Bonney.

He also had a vise in there, about 4-5" jaw width. Look like one of the non-bullet Wiltons, but the sticker on the side is missing. Next time I see him I'll either take a picture for you guys to ID, or if the price is cheap enough I'll get it regardless if it is USA-made or ChiCom ****. It didn't look like ChiCom to me, but sometimes I'm fooled by the style of things as to its heritage.

"Malleable" is the "Malleable Iron" (Works?) Co. and definitely US made. "Adjustable" (Adjustable Clamp Co.) is another odd clamp company name that is now owned by Jorgansen, but the name is still in play.

Hey, I apologized in advance. And I promised pics when I recovered my camera.

Starting with Freecycle. Picked up the pressure washer without the hose and wand, and not working. Cleaned the carb and away she went. Added the hose that I already had and used it already. It is still missing some trim but that does not affect operation.
Next up a couple of Auction items. The fan is working well and just needs a period correct cable and paint. The Kennedy machinist chest is close to perfect. It will probably be up for sale. Next post for Garage sale stuff.

First sale was interesting. Some stuff was priced real high. But the lady watching over the garage asked me what I was willing to pay for a few items and she put a sticker on to match. Hence 50c to $1 items. I didn't want the box, but inside it I saw the Channellock end cutters so I paid the $1 50.
Also the step drill and the Craftsman hex keys were in the box. The Krebs spray gun and the halogen light were $1 each. Sorry, no close up of the light.

Yeah you had a legitimate excuse Craptain. I went though pic withdrawal when I left my ****** camera in Idaho, till it got shipped back...

You know that Kennedy is 40's maybe 30's don't you? That one is in great shape for it's age!

I need to find a hose for my PW. I killed it... Well, I finished it off; it was near death when I got it...

Next sale was a generally poor one except for the pallet truck. I picked this up for $25 which was the estimated scrap value. A drop of jack oil and it is working well. I have also straightened out the slightly bent frame. This was my deal of the weekend. New this sells for almost $700. Last sale was potentially the best but the company running the sale were way high on the prices until this morning and then they cleaned out before I got there. So all I got was the Kroil for $1 each.

Somewhere along the way I missed taking pictures of the wood turning chisels I bought at auction. Oh well I am not going back to the shop now.
