Small swap meet this morning, as part of a racing season kickoff car show. I never hope for too much at this show, but it's something to do when the pickings are slim. I think I spent $19 today:

Starting from the top, that's a Blackhawk lug wrench. Not sure of era, but maybe it came with a jack? To its right are an old Craftsman ratcheting box end, a 10" Williams Superjustable, a Master Mechanic ratchet (no COO, but it looked interesting), and an SK socket-end wrench. Below that are a Craftsman 3/8" speeder, real Vise Grips, a Barcalo DBE, 3 Craftsman and 1 Wright socket, 2 Craftsman Vise Grips (1 with a broken handle), and some small Kraueter Button's pliers I picked up with a member in mind. Unfortunately, I didnt notice until I was home that both handles were broken off, and one had been crudely welded back on...

Very big swap meet and a tool auction next weekend as things get into the season!

First of three this morning, I showed up early and got an exclusive tour of the tools but only a few stood out worth buying. The Craftsman are made in Japan.
01087.jpg

Second stop I picked up the ratchets, extensions and timing light, checked out and ran around the corner to the third stop where there was nothing... Feeling discouraged, I went back to the second stop to look it over better(sun was coming out). Luckily I did, I grabbed the anvil/vise shown in the vise thread and everything else shown here. If anyone can identify the adapter piece in the bottom right corner, I'd appreciate it. I believe it to be a part to a Craftsman power tool. :dunno:

OK, My stuff such as it is. I paid $3 TOTAL...

2/3 of that was for this box. Mostly walnut; Walnut has a "feel" all its own...

The only other place that had anything I was willing to part with cash was run by a guy I hadn't seen in about a year. he's a real estate guy, and regularly holds yard/estate sales for his clients to help them get their junk gone, and he prices aggressively, to accomplish that! :pimpflash

A couple of Grinder attachments for the old school Kirby vacuums:

Some Hammer/Mallet handles:

Some Sockets and an Armstrong DBE wrench; the big 3/4 drive in back is an SK, the mid row is Craftsman, and the row in front is from L to R, Easco, Duro, Mustang, and Powr Kraft.

And from the Free pile a bunch of 8X8X16 block

And a half dozen of these half blocks:

Looks like you got a pile of cool stuff. So, do you know why you would put a grinding wheel attachment on you vacuum cleaner???

Here's a sneak peak at what I'm digging out of grandpas garage. He passed but I can have what ever tools I want. He was a plumber and backyard mechanic. I'll post in depth pics when I fly back home.

Outlaw really only $3 for all that. my god you are good. WTF is with a Kirby grinder? if you don't like the way it cleans you just cut the carpet out?

also how does the host of Hammer Time score to nice hammer handles on that budget?

gotta give it to you for a slow day you found some good stuff.

You guys are still doing awesome! I've slowed down after multiple great hauls this year (busy season with work and my tool budget for the year is pretty much spent). But I'm still enjoying this thread, keep it up

If your tool budget is already spent for the year, might as well clean out some old tools and have your own sale. Replenish the fund, you know ;)

That's actually a good idea nine! And I'm sure you know how it goes, my tool budget is only out until I run across the next good deal

But I have seriously "tooled up" this year so far and have everything I really need. But there is that gray area between "need" and "want".

I just have no time to get to sales, flea market, etc all the time like earlier in the year. But I'll still be hanging around and when work dies down I am sure I'll be posting some more pics in this thread

Picked this up yesterday for $5, there were some other things in the box. When i picked it up it was full of rusty metal dust. I know a lot of you will think it is junk but all the spark plugs work. Can anyone tell me what that piece of metal in the top right corner is used for. It's really heavy and I can't work out a use for it.

View media item 39905

Also, I found it out in a country area full of farms and such. Maybe it is used for that?

decent haul for today.
......
all for $8. Not bad for good Friday!

Decent, not bad. Uhm, someone is a bit modest.

So would it be safe to call it a Snap On. Is there another on box to determine how it was branded? Snap on, blue point etc.

Does someone have self image issues? Do you feel better saying you own a snap on box over a MBC box? :spit: No it is not technically a snap on box, it was made by the people that also made some snap on boxes. Just as how most craftsman boxes are waterloo, but not all waterloo boxes are craftsman. It's still a nice box, who cares what name is on it?

Nine, nice ratchets and dang on the punch set. What is that little pistol, cap gun? LOL at the bag of extensions.

Dude, honestly? Do you love just to bust my balls lately? I really don't care. I was just curious on what it was so if in a few years decided to sell it I knew what it was.

Nope, nothing against you at all, just replying to a post taken at face value. Same as I would have replied to any others. "Bust my balls recently" :dunno: Don't get offended so easily.

The way your post read to me was that you were trying to make something out of what it is not. Which is one thing that really irks me. Especially when people try to profit off the situation. It's an MBC box, not a snap on, it a solid box, use it, enjoy it. Think of it as a williams. Same quality as snap on but without the name and price tag.

If you are not familiar with the old Kirby's they had a drive shaft to run the belt that drove the beater brush. some bright boy figured out you could drive other things as well, like these grinders, (for light sharpening, not heavy fabrication) another attachment was a flexible drive cable for a drill/buffer.

one nice feature with a vacuum setup for grinding is that the grinding was NOT messy. The vac took care of that...

Back in the 30's, 40's and even into the 50's, utilizing a motor for many purposes was common. Heck, motors on power tools like saws and drill presses were optional because many simply moved a motor from tool to tool. These people were so frugal they squeaked when they walked... Partly a product of the depression, partly the fact that back then a motor was relatively expensive, and time to move them wasn't... Different times...

Yes, the ratchets were a score. This was a 6am opener and I got there early, sun wasn't up so luckily I had a HF free led light... I saw a lady walking around with a flex head ratchet and inquired, she said she did'nt know what it was used for but knew she wanted it :lol_hitti, I walked over to the table where they were and started snatching them up! The punch set was on the return trip, glad I went back, it has most if not all the inserts. I didn't see the price on the extensions but there was a $0.25 MISC tag on the shelf they were on so I grabbed the bag. When I got to the counter, the guy said 25 cents each, I said how much for the bag?, he says IDK $10? I'm like, there's not 40 extensions in there, he says ok $3?, deal...

Nope, its an MBC. The most you can say is that MBC also made SO boxes (to SO specs..)

It's STAMPED MBC, not SO. There will be differences, but the quality will be there also. MBC made awesome boxes, which was why SO used them as a supplier.

:wtf: 6am? I don't think I have ever seen a sale start that early. That would actually be nice, in a way. Good stuff  What is that little gun for 25¢? I'm intrigued with it for some reason.

oh yeah, that's a Victory Derringer cap gun from the 70's. It was marked, $0.10 but the total was even, either she gave it to me or charged me a dollar...:dunno:

My part time project for the past week: I got the parts bin last week, and decided to sue if for spare drill bits so I spend a few hours over a couple of evenings and some more today, and sorted through all my piles of loose drills, got the numbered and letter bits separated out as well...

So I've finally (after thinking I needed to do this for several years, organised all the bits, filled missing slots in 6 indexes and racks for fractional drills; the same for numbered drills, and got the one letter index I have about 1/2 full.

Spares are for the most part sorted out, bits over 1/2" up to an inch are MUCH easier for find now...

Total # of HHS (mostly) bits: >900! over 500 are fractional.

Three fractional indexes are at 100%, two more + a rack are close, my number index is @100% again, and one rack is close. and if I break a bit I can find a ****** spare if available.

I'd much rather have one (or maybe three... )of those Hout drawer indexes and lose most of the racks and single indexes, but.. :dunno:

Must be time for cap guns.

I traded this yesterday for a small compressor. The kid needed a compressor but had no money. I asked what he had to trade and here is the result. It is a fairly cheap Japanese 45 Cal and it has a rifled barrel so I hope it is relatively accurate. even came with a box of percussion caps.

Thanks for the info Outlaw, this is my first vintage box that isn't a Craftman. I've been on a vintage tool box kick lately. I really happy with it. Already lube it all up filled it and putting it to work. Down the road ill give it a resto.

Yesterday, Plomb, P&C, Easco, Bell System, Monroe wrench, Columbian 503, Craftsman. My favorite, Milwaukee 1/2" drill that they might have used once.

I did buy this in a garage...lol...

I have wanted a Mini 14 for a while now but I decided I wasn't going to go further into debt buying one, so I have been saving a little over a year. When the tax return hit my bank account I had a green light :)

my friend had this and actually bought it as a b-day gift for his fiancee, then they split so I got first rights, and here we are. it is a 186 series which was made in June of 1996. It came with 3 mags, the larger blued mag is a factory Ruger 30 round (which is good it isn't more, Ohio has a 30 round mag capacity law). Butler Creek side-folding stock. China side mount scope but still has the factory iron sights. Pinned flash hider designed by Flash Gordon, lol.

anyone here know Ruger Mini 14s?

ps, happy easter GJ.

Under the forearm is a part of the recoil mechanism that gets loaded up with powder residue and what not. It can rust in place, so keep it cleaned and lubed (I've had to unlock a buddy's 14 twice now..)
