Dave, you **** on the Baldor and those whistles!

I have to officially decline the "you ****" on the grinder.

Here's what I found inside. Both windings are open. It looks like it got fried pretty bad at some point:

Hit a good one today. Retired mechanic closing up his home shop, lift and all. Everything was for sale. Everything was covered in grease and dirt too. Reminded me of the 'before' pictures of the Thomas' "Restored 1930's Auto Shop".

Here's what I dug out of his boxes.
Pic 1:
Full set of Snapon 4 angle wrenches VS5232 to VS5220 (no date code)
SDX-80 screwdriver partial set
C-47-B easy out set

Pic 2:
PPC-200-K partial punch set w some craftsman
Blue Point PR-349A and SnapOn SRP1CP (1979 date code)
Herbrand no 301 brake spoon
Cornwell x-5 brake spoon

Pic 3:
F-4-L speeder (1959)
Cornwell NF-SAE and NC-USS re-threader sets. Missing two SAE
Nicholson USA mill ******* file
Starrett No. 436 3-4in mic
Central tool 2-3 mic
Starrett No. 230 0-1 mic
Simpson Tool No. 10 caliper
SnapOn RXV12148 wrench (1964)
SnapOn 17mm CEXM170 wrench (1984)
SnapOn 13/16 OEX-26 wrench (1956)
SnapOn ⅝ RXS20 wrench

Pic 4:
HKP no 2 cutter or as my buddy calls it, a "3 foot master key"

Grand Total? $30, and $5 was for the 'master key"

I don't know if this counts but my pops and I are helping my grandma clean up the tools in her garage/shop. She is 91 and has out lived her share of husbands. So here are a few of the awesome tools she let me take home this weekend.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180113.795418.jpg
Walker Turner grinder she said she knew was from the 40's
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180187.315005.jpg
A leather handle Kennedy Kits box (I put more pictures if this in the vintage tool box thread if anyone is interested)
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180225.755340.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180234.501270.jpg
Some pretty cool vintage ammeter and volt meters
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180299.684201.jpg
Some hammers
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180318.267969.jpg
Some pipe wrenches
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180334.891516.jpg
A few files
More to follow.

Here are a few more of grandma's treasures. Some of these are knew to me so input is welcome.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180495.403565.jpg
Three Lufkin tapes the bottom one is 33' has a leather stitched case and the tape is embossed not printed.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180556.459692.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180581.910972.jpg
Bench top bolt cutter.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180622.974830.jpg
These 4 are ford wrenches never heard of those before these and then saw some post another 1 page back in this thread.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180678.601399.jpg
I don't know much about this particular one other than it looks old.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180717.787330.jpg
Plvmb 1/2 " ratchet.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399180752.650908.jpg

Just a couple more that I need help with to follow.

Jeremy, yes it counts: Getting all that for free is a definite usuck.

The ratchet you asked about is a Plvmb, which changed it's name to Proto in 1948 after a trademark lawsuit with Plumb (hammers and axes)

Those offest wrenches used to have probably a #10 screw and wingnut through that hole holding them together as a set . There are similar combination wrench sets around also.

Ford used to provide a basic set of tools with model A's and T's back in the day. Made by someone else, but stamped with the script Ford Logo.

The Walker grinder is a nice find. Check the wiring out for safety before using it, (it's probably not grounded for one.) and the bearings may or may not need replacing, but well worth the investment even if required.

Thanks outlaw. Not to pile on but I didn't even post half of what I brought home and my dad got nearly as much as me. I would post more pictures but that seems mean. ;)

Thanks for the info on the plvmb, ford and indestro stuff.

As for the Walker grinder. The cord needs to be replaced but the internal wiring looks pretty good. And thanks for the words of caution on the bearings I'll give it a once over. I did check while unbolting it and it actually is grounded. :shocking:

Jeremy,
Great scores at a great "price"

That pump style fire extinguisher in the last set is a nice piece. These were common in military use back in UK from war time. Probably same here. But if it is still "Loaded" it could contain chemicals that cannot safely/legally be used today. It could be Carbon Tetrachloride or another from that group. Same as once used for dry cleaning. It can put out a fire but can also put out you from the fumes. Consider getting it emptied.

I have used it as a de-greaser cleaning agent in the past :shocking: Works just like Brake cleaner but more toxic. Not worth the risks.

Thanks for the heads up. I will get it emptied because it is full and it does say that it had carbon tetrachloride in it and I figured that wasn't safe, honestly what chemical used even 10 years ago was safe.

These last items are mostly of sentimental value as they were in my grandpas pocket all the time.

The spoke shave is actually a draw knife.

More nice saves, and even better that the serve another generation of the family.

I like the folding cup. I'd like to Find a metal, or better still a silver plate one.

Thanks again outlaw. Honestly I thought a draw knife and a spoke shave were the same thing. Thanks for the continued education.

Went to two flea's today to make up for getting skunked on tools yesterday.

The first one yielded an Eklind Hex Key set w/ display. It's only missing the 1/8" hex. And an unmarked 6" hacksaw made in England (anyone in the UK recognize the maker?) (pics 1-3, I included a good picture of the chart for those who might be interested) Spent $10

The second flea turned up an unknown slide puller (missing the fingers), a Union Tool Co. Orange, Mass 45° square, and 2 Stearns 4" c-clamps (I really need to kick this habit ) (pic 4) Spent $12

Once I figured out which hex key I was missing, I went back to the first flea because I remembered another vendor who had a box of them. I got there at 11:40a :tantrum2: [Rant on] Who pays $35 for a table and then packs up to leave before noon on a warm dry day ! [Rant off] :tantrum2: I'll have to go back to track that seller down next sunday. It's going to niggle at me all week. :willy_nil

Jake those Allen's black finish respond amazingly well to a light "buffing" on a fine wire wheel. I looked cause I thought I had an "orphan" tee handle but its not 1/8.. (It WAS Eklind!)

Clamps: you know the rule: You can't have "too many" clamps... :ninja:

I know where I can get one with the same "patina" to match my rusty ones, I just have to wait a week for the seller to set up again.

Today's deal, I stopped at two estate sales and both was pretty good! I ended up spending more then I wanted today but I got a good deal so I might shift through my collections and start putting some up for sell to get my money back later. All together I spent $80 for it all

First is the near perfect crown top toolbox Full of tool!!! In the box was a complete set of box end wrench! A Craftsman clamp plier and a fuller adjustable.
img_1712.jpg

Hex wrench, crown top logo.
img_1713.jpg

Loving the nice box and wrenches! $20 for that and more You ****!
