I think Amitygravel is spot on. I've got a timing light like that that I used to set the timing on my VW Beetle back when I had the misfortune to own one. Static timing. Not terribly accurate, but good enough for a VW.

Your articulating light looks like its attached to a magnetic dial indicator/scribe base. I have a base like that on my dial indicator only a different color.

You are exactly right on the magnetic base, I didn't even notice. This one is made by Cullen Legois and google brings up many images, thanks!

And thank you both for the id on the timing light, I saw the wood handle with wire coming out and had to have it.

Beatcad, nine4gmc and I have already done some deals. And I am thinking about another trip LOL. Plus this box being a Leatherette and with a missing door and some damage is probably not worth shipping.

I picked up these old greasy things this morning. I guess they are tools of some sort? Thinking of selling them and picking up some new things at harbor freight or sears.



I started to unload them





But I got tired and stopped.







Joking aside, I think both boxes are post war 1940s. One has the sticker and a slightly different tray than the other. I need to clean the heck out of both of them. Lots of grease and sawdust stuck to grease.

The box with the worn decal is made by Union, which definitely made wartime GMTK boxes. I recognize the decal. The wartime boxes varied quite a bit in number of hinge elements, tray handles (flat and round), number of oiler holes (one and two) in the tray, type of tray supports inside the box (4 corners, ends), depending on mfgr. Two features that do separate wartime from post-war boxes are the feet and the handle attachments. If the boxes have four ornate reinforced corners on the bottom (which I can't see from the photos), and the handle tabs are welded (which they appear to be from the photos), not riveted to the lid, they are both wartime. And so could some of the tools. I'm eyeing some of the 1/2"-drive sockets, the DBE's, the water pump pliers, the file handles and some others, in particular, but it's hard for me to evaluate without close-ups of both sides of each tool.

I have put a few wartime GMTK's together...

Thanks! The 'Craftsman' logo looks old, anyone date it for me? The feeler gauge is from the 60s, I think. The guy had a CL ad for a garage sale with tools, antiques and primitives. Turns out he's a collector that mainly travels to shows but opens up his barn once a year, and I was lucky enough to make that trip this year. He had shelves 15' high with everything from tools to toys to everything in between. Thought I was going to make a quick run thru and then be down the road. Spent almost an hour in there looking. He had some mighty sweet stuff!

I found my first Kennedy tool box on Saturday at a garage sale. It was our neighborhood garage sale and the very first sale I stopped at had this two drawer add on box for $10. It has some surface rust on the bottom and a little in the bottom of the second drawer, but other than that, it's in pretty good shape. Didn't have a key with it, but I can take care of that later. I think I'm going to use it in my home office once I convert it to a gun room. It will make good storage for cleaning gear. This is a model MC-28. The coolest part is the guy said he is going to have a "Man Cave Sale" in a couple weeks with more tools and gun related items. I'll be looking for that.



Then I also found this Kobalt crescent wrench. It works, but it obviously needs cleaned up. This was only $1.

The MC-28 is a 28" middle box.
Kennedy never did figure out how to stick to a standard on their middle boxes.
They expected their buyers to stack boxes in a pyramid, putting the load in the center, instead of all in line so that the weight transferred straight down the sides.

Yea it really puzzles me why they did and still do that. Ironically they make standard size top and middle boxes in their mechanics line. Which if someone was going to buy a 26" wide box I don't see why they would select the 526 over one of their mechanics 26" boxes. The 520 I understand as it is a different size. Or especially why one would pick one of the goofy size middles over the mechanics line. So things would match? Even then the bottom box won't match

The Zip-tie bundle on the far left is all Taiwan, the one in the middle is all stamped "Made in USA" with no other brand markings?

Pile on the far right is the cool stuff, snap on, mac, Sears made in japan, proto, williams, fuller. Hell even a Vintage honda motorcycle wrench, not a bad deal IMO

Today's Craigslist lunchtime deal.

Gawd, I love CL! Lady wanted $100 for the bench grinder and $15 for the 'clamps'. I offered $75 for both and asked her to counter. She was happy with the $75. The grinder, smooth and quiet, unlike the 1HP Crapsman I currently own. I couldn't tell the brand of the clamps, er, mics until I drove away and saw what I got. I really just wanted the grinder, but day-um! The small one is a Reed, the rest Starrett.

An estate sale this morning yielded 84# of visey goodness.

I originally wasn't interested in the sale based on the pictures (no pics of the vise), but once I read this -

Biggest Vice I ever saw: The Chas. Parker Co., Meriden, CT. U.S.A. BRING TOOLS IF YOU WANT THIS PIECE AS IT MUST BE FREED FROM IT'S BENCH.

I just HAD to go check it out.

The sale was poorly advertised in an odd spot, so there were only 4 of us when the door opened. As soon as I got in I asked about the vise. I was told that "It's up in the attic, go on up". The ATTIC ? Who keeps tools in the attic ? Well - up in the 3rd floor walk up attic was a little workshop with a HUGE vise on a 1x4 framed bench. All the tools except the vise were gone.

I'm not normally interested in fix based vises, but I just couldn't leave this one behind. The asking price was $75, but they took my offer of $60 .

I also found an old brass Cribbage board, an ink roller, and 1/2 of a pipe jaw for an exposed screw vise (I couldn't find the other half ) for another $3.

Went back to the same lady to buy a NAPA branded 4 ton porta-power for the $75 she was asking. I also confessed to her that the 'clamps' she sold me earlier were indeed micrometers, and decent ones at that. I flipped her an extra $50 because I wasn't raised to take advantage of people. And I took a burger for her two old dogs. Who would have thought that a guy with an avatar looking like yours would be the voice of my conscience!

No picture. I got a Milwaukee orbital 12amp Sawzall. Had a busted off blade in the quick release, guess that lowered the value to the 8$ I paid for it.

Jake: i heard you even got some exercise grabbing that vise which by the way looks like a keeper. if you like only the swivel versions you can mount this on one of your rolling tool boxes and make a stand and turn it any direction you choose. here's a stand on my Parker that doesn't swivel and i'm pretty sure i'll have a hard time tipping it over.
