I remember sparking them regularly to keep the Lucas generator working on my various British motorcycles.

Joseph Lucas "Prince of Darkness"

The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."
Lucas is the patent holder for the short circuit.
Lucas - Inventor of the first intermittent wiper.
Lucas - Inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.
The three position Lucas switch - Dim, Flicker and Off.
The Original Anti-Theft Device - Lucas Electrics.
Lucas is an acronym for Loose Unsoldered Connections and Splices

Totally off track here, but it was a deserved reputation. My parents bought a 1968 Triumph convertible on European (Britain) delivery. They drove the car around Europe for a couple of weeks, but the Lucas windshield washer pump crapped out before the car ever made it to the U.S.

Yup, I had a TR Spitfire that would turn the wipers on by themselves just before it would start to rain. Freaky. The overdrive solenoid would kick in and out by itself as well. PITA.

Those were little MAP gas cylinders. Wouldn't have made a diff at all, believe me. The OX/ACL torches on the opposite side, they made fireworks!!

I have an Emco, think you may have typo-ed "Enco" which is a supplier in NV. It is good though, got the jest of it and setup is OK. This is my 5th lathe (kinda like tools, you just get another)

GFCI wouldn't have done a thing. I now store and charge them in a special bag. The batteries are for radio control planes and the lithiums are standard now with balance tabs that helps alot with overcharging.
Here was an overall of the garage.

Hers a couple pics of where it started, whats left of the garage and the attic above. The attic was more of a loss as it had almost all of my fathers things who had past away a couple years earlier.

Wow. Glad there were no injuries.

Saturday's score:

I couldn't resist snagging as many Peterson Vice Grips as possible. The pliers and flex extensions are Snap-On. The breaker is KD.

Not pictured: another Snap-On pump pliers, 1/4" flex extension and 2 small Peterson Vice grips...

The total was $40.

As well, I got a vintage Huot drill index box. I didn't snap a pic, yet.

LOL. My garage has been overflowing for a long while. Hence the no pics of a neatly organized and clean garage with ample workspace! A few years ago a relative removed his 1950 Ford, then came back for his Moped and 70's Honda bike, and things just got worse with the extra room!

Fuzzy is right! I saw you post this first in the Vise thread! :ninja:

And a long post with no pics? :wtf: You know better!

Yeah I deleted it over there and put it here LOL.

And on a long post I often post it before pics so if the computer takes a dump I don't have to retype it , just edit to add pics.

I typed a similar post yesterday and forgot to hit "Submit" after I did a "Preview" - doh!

Anyway I picked up these 2 Nascar Hood covers while garbage picking yesterday. I'm not entirely sure what they fit but they would make good wall art for a Nascar fan if you made a frame of the right shape.

I have no need for them - I'm neither a Nascar or a GM fan. If someone is interested I would send em out for shipping costs - one should fit in a flat rate box. They are a bit beat up - I can post better pic's as needed.

PM me if interested. Would be shipping from NJ or possibly local pickup which would them be free!

Cheers

Jim

Stopped at the flea market on Saturday, right before my computer died and I had to buy another one, I'm back online now and here's my saves:

pic 1: all for $7
Lincoln Welder ground clamp, like new
hammer handle
large clevis hook, no markings, but probably 5-ton or so

pic 2: all for $7
small "USA" marked hatchet head, still sharp only surface rust
Ridgid basin wrench
Snap-On 10-inch 1/2-drive extension
Snap-On key? looks like the plastic end of a wrench head, possibly for opening a toolbox?
Allen-wrench with 6 sockets, very old no markings
7 sockets, 6 are Craftsman USA 1/2-drive and 1 is Snap-On 3/8 drive

pic 3: all for $5.25
long spout oil can, vintage auto Americana here!
Craftsman tile nippers, rubber handle but old style Craftsman text, no part number
Evans thin white tape measure, 6 ft.

pic 4: $5 bill
some of an old wood vise, the screw and the front screwplate. Not sure what to do with it, I don't have the rest of the parts. Perhaps I'll come across them in time.

OK, a rare (for me) weekday buy. I was trying to hookup with this guy Sunday but he called back way too late...

8 drawer double wide card file full extension roller slides, all work smoothly. cosmetics are a bit rough, here and there, this will need a little work and repainted. The drawer pulls are brass, the interior paint is original and army green. There is a tag inside that may have a date code of 47. It's a tank.

I may go with the flat olive drab like I did with one of my parts bins.

I'm seriously considering getting about 3 of these and using them for my primary tool storage. I NEVER roll my rollers about, so why not? Three of these would give me 2-1/2 X the square inches in my old 26" 11 drawer Husky and the drawers will hold longer stuff the Husky can't. Sort of a poor mans Lista.

Not a bad CL deal for $20 and a two hour drive

Not BETTER garage sales, but MORE garage sales.
I have gotten some pretty good stuff at garage sales.
Just 3 days ago I got an English-made, pre-Irwin, no.3 Record vise (or vice as the Brits call it).
Anywho, it's new and it was $25.
But I had to go to half a dozen crappy garage sales first.
Some examples of crappy garage sales:

1) me: "your Craigslist ad stated you have tools for sale"
Idiot: "um yeah, I shouldn't have said tools, there aren't any, hey, need some baby clothes or a toaster?"

2) me: "your Craigslist ad stated you have tools for sale"
Different garage sale idiot: "yup, they're right there", points to a shoebox full of used doorknobs and RCA patch cords.

3) drive 6 miles to garage sale, ad says "tons of hand tools"
No garage sale, nothing in driveway, no one home.

4) me: "how much for the effed-up, bent, rusty, worn-out, seized, pitted, hammered-on, detent-ball-missing Snap-on ratchet that has brown water coming out of it when you turn it upside down because it has spent more time outside than the statue of liberty?"
Cranky old man: "well my son checked eBay and those go for over $100, so I'll say $75 firm"

Bottom line: You gotta kiss a lot of frogs to get the good stuff.

Bottom line: You gotta kiss a lot of frogs to get the good stuff.

methomas70, I just LMAO.
I really, really did.
:)

I don't try and find garage sales, I just let them find me.
And If I needed toys, baby clothes or DVD's. I;d be flush in a weekend alone around here.
Ha.

I gotta take a Wednesay off and hit the regional auction/flea that goes from dawn to 11am. Then it's done. Every Wednesday.
Total ********.

Baby clothes, old countertop appliances and RCA patch cords FTW for Saturday sales around here every weekend all weekends!
And bread machines.

:)

Methomas:Too damn funny. not sure if you are old enough to remember not having an online ad or a newspaper (what's that) to go out on a Friday and drive through neighborhoods looking for garage sales. sometimes they only posted a sign in their own front yard and not even one on a busy street a block from their house.

that's why so many of these old quality items we find now are rare because they use to end up at the dump if you didn't have a large group of friends to sell them to because they weren't worth that much.

here are a few of my finds this last weekend and showing the keepers first as i'm pulling stuff out of buckets. i love this little screwdriver with steel all the way through the wood handle even though China was the prior owner. i can't find a name on the smaller ratchet, but it looks like a Proto. that little Yankee ratchet screwdriver I saw i think on the vise thread when someone was trying to take out a screw with no clearance for even a short screwdriver. it might come in handy.

cheers

I've been looking at getting one of these for about a month. This one popped up on CL. Very, very lightly used for $120, new they are $190. I'm happy with it.

I posted this in "Garage Sale Goodies" thread, but I'll add it here, seems relevant.

Quoted for truth :rocker: and I had a good laugh, thought it was just me with bad luck.

I have been on a winning streak lately. I could use a few more wins. Estatesales.net does not have anything I am super excited about anytime soon, though. It is tedious, but I go through the pictures. That is how I found the block grinder and the drill press. I could not believe that they were still there.

Some things I am still looking for: a cool looking vintage table saw, router/router table, angle grinder, vintage steel upper kitchen cabinets (LOTS OF THEM).

DIF that old one is a Plvmb/Proto (probably the former). Not sure who they made them for, but that style is what I've come to think of as the Wright Field (WF) type. I have a couple and one is unmarked.

Question: does yours have the inset on the handle on both sides? I have one that only has it on one side, and IIR it was the unbranded one.
