Scored this band saw the other day. Pretty happy with it. Plans are a full resto/paint job. It was free fifty to a good home.

Onedivinehammer >> I like that. I grew up on the North Shore (Lynn, Saugus, Danvers et al). Just out of curiosity, in what town/city did you find that gem?

It was at a flea market in NH, of which I've now been to twice. I was expecting to find cheap vintage full tool boxes, top and bottom rollers, etc. Nothing of the sort, unfortunately. I suppose I'll still be on the hunt for those.

Thanks Drivesitfar, I'm going to get the vise pictures up soon, been busy and just bought everything yesterday. I'm thankful for such a great base of knowledge of tools and projects. I've learned alot from GJ and i'm thankful for the opportunity to do so. Some of the starretts will probably go to my best friend since i've always been the torches and sledgehammer guy and he's been Mr precision. Also, my name was supposed to be RustnGrease but my R wasn't cooperating that day lol.

I love having friends that still work for sears, pop into a store that my buddy runs now...
"hey man, i need some older rebuild kits, think you got any floating around still?"
"probably, go take a look"
15 minutes later...
"nah, all newer stuff, cool if I rip into some of those older trade in's for parts?"
"dude, go for it."
15 minutes later...
"ok, I'm gonna need a bag, and is it cool if I snag these two 60 year old box heads?"
"if you can fix them, go for it."
Price = Free, just wish there were more RHFT's in decent shape in the pile...

Kind of an unusual mid-week 'score' for me. First up are some tools a co-worker got for me at an estate sale. I told him I'd buy "USA made, $1 a tool or less":

West Haven hack saw, 2 early Craftsman DOEs, a hex-drive speeder with wood handle (anyone ever see one like this?), Kraeuter linemans, small "LG & Co" pliers, Button's pattern pliers with no visible brand, Pexto dividers, and 4 tap handles.

Next up is from an estate sale I hit after work today:

At top are two Cman socket rails, at left is a Williams offset DBE, and at right is a Bonney tape measure. The tape is pretty worn out, but I figured someone would like it for a collection. The sockets are grouped, from top to bottom: Herbrand (some triangle, all feels pretty low-quality), Armstrong, Williams, SO, and one Cleco and one unbranded at the bottom.

My optimistic plan is to hit a garage sale before work tomorrow and another estate sale Friday afternoon before carefully planning my Saturday.

I picked this up for $20
7SjwKHh.jpg

Works great, regulator is a bit leaky but holds compression, and doesn't leak at 90psi or at low psi's. It's super quiet compared to friends larger tanks, delivers pretty good cfm for the size too. Was happy to see parts are available for it, but for $20!

Only issues I see is the drain plug probably needs renewing and some persuasion to break it out and it doesn't have the handle. It came with a 2ft steel bar that gets wedged to make it "portable" but I might make another handle. I changed the oil in it and put a screw in the belt housing mount so it doesn't rattle.

$20 pick up today... about $5 more than I offered, but... it is what it is. Been off all week working on ebay and the house, needed a break...

Old CMan box, probably late 40's to early 50's? Snap on and Williams wrenches, random old screwdriver, and a sweet 30's Craftsman Eggbeater Drill with the original bits still hidden in the handle!

Good mid-week score Rick, love the aluminum handle boxes!

Cewper, welcome to the club!

I've been busy getting settled so not a lot of spare time but I did manage to scoop up this Wilton 745 from a CL ad yesterday for asking price of $60.

Rick: pretty nice thinking on all those ratchet parts and you got my attention and gave me a few other good ideas to try.

Nine: instead of getting all the paint off just call it a good primer coat and bring out the red or your favorite color. some of the guys in the vise thread might have a Wilton or maybe a Snap On label to fit in the inset if you might want one. PM me and i'll give you a couple names to try or post it over there and ask if anybody has one to sell or mail to you. by the way in case you didn't know Wilton did make Snap On's vises.

love midweek finds. nice work guys.

I picked up this really nice Cornwell tool box that a nice young guy on Craigslist was selling. he said he had his art supplies inside it so i can just start loading it up. also grabbed another small SK tool box with a leather handle to maybe put my big socket set inside it.

I see how you guys do it now.

These were basically free. I responded to a CL ad for a room air conditioner for my daughter's apartment. The air conditioner (like new) was $50, and then the fellow said he was unloading the estate of his late brother. I asked if he had any tools, and came home with the following for nothing extra:
Small Carson rat tail file,
Small Nicholson mill ******* file,
like-new Fleet (USA) oil can,
Set of no-name HS USA drill bits in plastic index box (only the 1/4" looked used);
Set of random Japan and Italy (?) HS drill bits in Craftsman plastic index;
A strange pointy reamer I'm not familiar with; and,
Heavy extension cord for the air conditioner

20140626_1413381_zps9f55d34a.jpg

I asked about other tools, and he showed me a decent Fleet USA ratchet with with USA sockets, including universals and spark plug sockets, and extensions. All in a blow molded case. They weren't anything I could have used for myself, so I passed on it. I probably could have gotten it for a couple of bucks, but for no purpose other than resale on ebay.

I'm not ready to become an ebay merchant.

There were also some old wood working tools, such as a draw knife, and an interesting bow saw. Again, they'd be only for re-sale.

He told me he's going to advertise a garage sale soon.

I bought the same thing new. I'm on my third regulator. That's just the way they are. All the regulators are China now. My next one is from Harbor Freight. I think they're $5 there.

Tractor Supply or HF can supply a new drain valve. They're cheap.

alinc, Nice scores! too bad the Parker is dead, but even parts have value, and I bet someone here has one with a broken dynamic jaw.

Gart: another option is the GJ classifieds, and trades between members. I do more of the latter than the former. Nice saves!

If you don't mind me asking, how much are they new, what do they usually run used? What's your experience with it? Works fine for my usage so far.

I have a regulator from a broken HF compressor that is on my fish tank CO2 that works fine. Was thinking of doing a similar setup with the second regulator, leave the one on the tank where it doesn't leak and use the secondary to get it to required PSI. They have the parts for the whole compressor and regulator online but not sure it's worth attempting to rebuild.

As far as the valve goes, got to buy one, then get the old drain valve out :)

alinc100, the Williams S-57 is a 19-1/2" torque wrench. Here's a catalog pic.

It's possible somebody modified it to be just a 1/2" ratchet. Does it look welded or maybe shortened and jammed into the handle? Any other stampings on it? Wish I could get a better look.

Ding ,Ding ,Ding!! I believe we have a winner!
I am still not sure which end was modified but I tried to take some close-ups to help clarify. I guess I won't be filling the safe deposit box I don't have with a bundle of money. Although one could argue it's rarity and that there probably isn't another one just like it:willy_nil

I bought the thing back when Harbor Freight actually sold some tools made in USA. 1980's? It was probably $200 at the time. It's worked fine for me, except for the regulators becoming leaky. The second one, a Milton, I tried taking it apart and cleaning it. That worked for a while, then it got really leaky again. I bought another one at Sears, which is working fine. But I think I could have bought a China-made regulator at HF or elsewhere for less. I've also replaced the drain valve which rusted. I've tried to drain the water when I can remember to do so.

Also, the pressure switch crapped out. I ordered a new one from Campbell Hausfeld CPO. The configuration was somewhat different, but equally functional.

Mine came with a USA-made motor, don't recall the brand this instant. The starter crapped out. A local motor shop fixed it.

Even though it's the minimum recommended, I've used it for painting, and for air tools at 90 psi. It's obviously not big enough for a professional shop.

I don't know about your fish tank set up. If something blows up, I didn't recommend it.

Lots of good stuff-even another unusual Williams product!
As planned, I hit another garage sale before work this morning, and cleaned them out of the "S+K" wrenches they advertised. $.50 apiece for the stuff in the photo:

At top, an older Williams 8" Superjustable, SK Wayne 9/16" combo, 3 SK Wayne DOEs, and 5 more SK combos.

Not to get OT but what's lead scrap price by you alinc? I wish I could get that much lead at a sale around here. We use it for casting sinkers, and scuba weights.

I was told by the scrapyard I called its 0.40/lb . So hopefully I am somewhere in the $22.00-$25.00 range. Can't get a super accurate weight on it.
