Some serious metal accumulated by everyone this weekend, wow

Must have been the pent up supply caused by the funky way the 4th fell this year.

waiting for BlueBolt to sift through his scores

Well done folks, keep them coming

I plan on sorting/posting at least once a day. I think I have 5 days to go LOL!

So I forgot my first buy from earlier today, I had hit a TOO and got a tiny husky 1 gal 100 PSI oiless compressor. test well pumped to 95 at the sale no apparent leaks, and 6 hours later it still has 75 in it! Ten bucks!

attachment.php

And this AM I Emailed a CL ad for NEXT week, where they listed "hunting gear, bow and guns" and somehow it's not been flagged...

The guy called me and we arranged for me to come look:

2 Win mod 70's in 270 and 30-06, no scopes, a Mossberg pump 12 ga, and a Glenfield .22 semi auto. I passed on those but did get:

A vintage Weaver 4X Marksman, this will replace the same damaged scope on one of my other guns that I've had since I was 14 or so, (my first deer rifle, paper route money)

attachment.php

Crossman pump .177 cal, "american classic" pistol w/ a stock

attachment.php

A Benjamin Franklin .177 cal Pump, mod 347 in desperate need or a seal rebuild kit.

attachment.php

From the tools for sale:
A Digital Mitatoyo 8 in caliper, new battery and its good to go!

attachment.php

A Palmgren DP vise, Craftsman Long C tappet, SO swivel head 1-4 in drive ratchet, and a brass oilier syringe;

attachment.php

and last but not least; a SO 3-8 drive torque Wrench!

attachment.php

Total tab? $80! :rocker:

Good flea market today. Last year I found a $12 KR65, among other stuff. Not quite as lucky this year, but still got some good stuff. Oh, and to the poster wondering about not quoting prices-sometimes I just can't remember. I don't take notes, and it doesn't help that I'm hunting for certain non-tool items, too.
Anyway, here's the good stuff:

Brake pliers are New Britain, plug gapper is Herbrand, Blue Bird battery cable pliers, Lectrolite lifter remover for Ford Flatheads, K-D No. 608 (have to get out my catalog), Zim valve spring compressor, and a "Knu-Vise" that was calling my name. For some reason.

Also got:

Williams Tri-Wing ratchet, Craftsman =v= and early Blackhawk 1/2" drive sockets, SK combo, Penncraft chain wrench, =Craftsman= 10" locking adjustable (!), other adjustables are Master Mechanic, Wardmaster, and Crescent. The Button's Pattern, Slip-Joint, and Fencing pliers are all Utica, the DBEs are Hexo, Blackhawk, and diamond-logo SK, the dainty little torque wrench is a Duro, the DOEs are Gray and Matador, the top two pliers in the lower right are Kraueter, the last one is Penens.

Love those air guns, good score on the Palmgren and Snap On!

Nice find on the air guns. Never seen a Crossman like that with a stock. I'm always lookin for them.

Thanks guys!

The stocked Crossman is my second with the stock. The stock can be bought as an accessory, and I believe is still available from Crossman, certainly off Eprey.

My first one was desperate for a rebuild seal kit and a hinge pin but that is all done now. This one is in much nicer cosmetic condition and in perfect operational order!

I'll have to order a kit for the Benjamin rifle

This weekend's haul.

Engine stand 750lb and valve train orginizers - $40
Sun timing light and vacume/boost gauge - $3
helmet - $3
mini oxy/mapp cutting/welding/brazing torch and sears timing light - $8
120v ac to 12v dc converter - $8

I don't need a third timing light but I found the Sun on sunday and I had not checked the sears branded one to verify that it works(both work). I'll pass the sears one along to a buddy or make a couple bucks on craigslist.

$62 for everything felt pretty good
How did I do?

Yup, my house in Maine is leaning towards the south now because of the prevailing suckage. :lol_hitti

I missed that listing. It must have been just outside of my travel range.

Yeah, I still can't believe it myself. I keep going out there and looking to make sure I didn't dream it up. :rocker::rocker::rocker:

Craigslist score. The seller is the automotive teacher at the high school. He sells some of his personal tools every summer. I nearly missed it. I didn't check craigslist yesterday and he already had a sale lined up. Lucky for me the first guy was a no-show. Two Matco metric wrench sets each missing a wrench, odd snap on/Mac screwdrivers/sockets/wrenches. Snap on mini pick/screwdriver set. Hammers, punch set, block tester, small cutters. Everything Blue Point Snap On Matco or Mac. $100 total.

Wife wasn't home and my daughter said she wanted to play tools. :rocker:
So I had to play with her. Don't tell my wife what we do when she is gone.

I picked this small Craftsman tool box up for $1. The box is not smashed just a bit rusty. I got for my Dad who needed a shallow auto box for his 34 Ford 3 window.

one last stop for the weekend, got this snap-on s-71 ratchet in 1/2" drive. i thought this style ratchet was older but the diamond date code says 1980.

same place also got a set of 1/2 drive sae hex bit sockets, not pictured. 3/8 and 7/16 are snap-on, 1/2, 9/16 and 5/8 are proto. $40 for all, not a screaming deal but not bad imo.

Storage auction last week, just got around to looking in the toolboxes. The beat up red box was filled to the top with tools, all appear to be usa. A D. B. Sweeney ratchet adapter and some wright and snap on sockets and a partial set of craftsman wrenches. A stack of other small boxes I have yet to go through. Also had a 2 drawer cabinet full of misc. tools, dewalt angle grinder, sawzall. As soon as I finish selling off the rest of the unit I will post better pics. Cost of unit-$125, sold off $600 in clothes and furniture so far, so no need to sell any tools this time.

Sweet haul. What is this?
a8yne7eh.jpg

It is a clamp for pulling on a heavy wire or cable. The end of the cable is inserted into the mouth of the tool and a rope is attached through the loop on the opposite end. Pulling on the rope tightens the cam, clamping the cable tight. They are used in overhead power, phone, and cable TV industries.

$15 today. I was at a sale at this house a few weeks ago and left the torque wrench and when I saw they were having a one day blow out I hoped it was still there. Torque wrench is a craftsman crown, anyone know if they can still calibrate this style? Or am I better off selling this and buying a new one?

Other stuff. Sockets, left to right are Craftsman, Walden, Armstrong, Plomb. Punches are all craftsman and one snap-on. Bit driver is a General, the larger wrenches are billings, the small wrenches are mostly Armstrong, the keychain screwdriver is a Proto (says Peerless Pumps on the other side), the short screwdriver is a Craftsman, the read/green are Xcelite and the yellow is a MAC magentic driver.

Shadow, I'm pretty sure they will calibrate the non-digital torque wrenches for free(maybe $25 I can't remember atm), I know they will the rod/pointer style like below.

Good stuff cheap. I'll need to check out some of these storage auctions. I always assumed they were fluff. Do you go to many of these?

Team Torque wants $92 to calibrate a dial type. Almost sounds like I'm better buying a new one and selling this one.

I've been to a few of these - you can make out big or lose everything you have. You can't go inside and touch anything until you buy it and own it, THEN you can go inside and open things up to see if you are going to strike it rich. Best strategy is to look inside the door when they start the bidding, and bid only on what your see, and don't assume the boxes contains anything valuable; for all you know they are filled with stained baby clothes or blank office forms from the late 1960s. In order words, worthless stuff that you have to pay to haul away.

Can you find valuables there? Sure. But look at it from this standpoint: if you knew you were going into arrears at the storage place, and you were going to lose everything you had in it to the auctioneer, wouldn't you go in there right before you lost access to your stuff, and take what you REALLY wanted to keep, and leave the ****?

The couple I went to had schill bidders and looked like the contents were staged like they had already been through them. Prices were astronomical as well, like everyone thinks they can double their money no matter what they spent... Not trying to dismiss them all, I would bet there can be some deals had if you are in the right place at the right time. ;)

I probably go to 4-5 a month, some have a couple units some do 60 in a day. The hardest part is storing everything. At first I was taking the tools to the flea market but got tired of everyone offering me 50 cents for craftsman and snap on wrenches so I keep everything that is made in USA and only sell the taiwan and china ****.

Yeah, you can absolutely lose your *** on storage auctions, only bid on what you see, and don't bid with your rent or grocery money. Some places are shady and some aren't.

I was hooked on my first unit, paid $210 and made $6000. Shoulda quit then.

Thanx for all the great advice on storage auctions. Forewarned is forearmed. I hadn't checked any out, but I certainly will take a look at them in the near future.

At a "normal" storage auction there will be a dozen or so people show and only 3-4 bidding, most are just there to watch. Last one I went to only 2 people showed and they had 6 units, I took 3 and the other guy took 3, $50 minimum bid so it worked out well. Some places the bid is over a grand by the time the door gets opened all the way.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH ONLINE STORAGE AUCTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

My inlaws are doing the storage unit thing. They do OK most of the time with careful bidding but it is possible to get stuck with a unit full of junk. One that comes to mind is when they bid a few hundred bucks on a 10x30 unit stacked to the ceiling with new unopened shipping boxes. They were betting this was inventory from a business that went under and would be valuable.

It turned out to be hundreds of obsolete computer tower cases. The kind that small computer shops would use to build generic PCs. Problem was these were so old that nobody uses the size motherboards these would hold anymore. Couldn't sell them anywhere, ended up breaking them down to raw materials and selling for scrap steel and copper. I can't remember if they broke even money wise but with the added labor it was a big loss.

I love that blue color on the toolbox. Also love the knipex pliers. Great find

Part III! Finally finishing up on the massive estate sale!

Pic 1: Old kitchen corner cabinet with built in lazy susan.

Pic 2: Router bits and odds and ends.
Pic 3: Exit sign with green reverse painted glass and 1950's 7-Up light up clock, all metal with real wood frame, hands and mechanism are removed for troubleshooting (needs a new motor that will run me $24 plus shipping)

Pic 4: 1979 Craftsman red/black lower roller cabinet. I passed on it the first day because it had missing drawers. Found the drawers the second day plus the previously pictured Mac swivel 1/4" drive sockets were hiding in there still. I now have all the parts for the tool box but it needs serious mud dauber nest removal!

Pic 5: Pair of 2 ton jackstands.

Pic 6: Folding safety sign with hooks, crowbars, trucker tie downs and a fence stretcher hanging from it.

Pic 7: Another folding safety sign with forks, picks and hammers.
