You know you have garage sale tool fever BAD when you're on vacation like I am, with my family, at the beach, and part of you wishes you were back home so you could hit the sales and pick up some more goodies.

Last weekend I was reading GJ on the beach.

Every time I travel

Hit up a flea market in NJ this morning, and wow... so much different than the ones I'm used to. Up in Lambertville, NJ, lots of high end collectors there, and high end goodies. But, still managed to snag to deals:



A 2-drawer Park box ($25) and a Super Lectric metal fan ($10). Found a fan dealer 8 tables away... he said he'd sell it all day for $35, so that made me feel good about it. Some of these are going for insane money right now, and they're fun little projects to clean up and rewire.





Does anyone make a pretty damned close color to the Park box color? Got this one and another one to do up.



Oh, of course the box is full of tools Some CMan and Williams mostly, with an SK here, Bonney there... then a lot of junk.

Hit a Sunday estate sale, lady said the vise was $1 if I could get it off the table. I searched the leftovers in the garage for pliers or any tool that I could use to remove it. Finally found a 1" C-Clamp made in China, sadly I was excited about that but happily it was just enough to break the nuts loose from underneath :will_nil Also picked up this center finding ruler for $1, I left the lil chinese c-clamp for them to throw away

Hit a Sunday estate sale, lady said the vise was $1 if I could get it off the table. I searched the leftovers in the garage for pliers or any tool that I could use to remove it. Finally found a 1" C-Clamp made in China, sadly I was excited about that but happily it was just enough to break the nuts loose from underneath :will_nil Also picked up this center finding ruler for $1, I left the lil chinese c-clamp for them to throw away

Toss an adjustable in your glove box for the next time you have to unbolt a vise!

well, rustoleum doesn't make a greenish hammertone, well, at least the right green... maybe... a base of Copper Hammertone:

followed by a light coat of Fern?

or grass green?

or is Fern too light? is the grass too green? I may just take a box to an auto paint store, get it color matched and get a can or 3...

I have a full blown jump out bag full of tools in my truck but we were dropping one of the kids off for work in the mini van. For $1, I would have chewed through the table like a beaver if I had to

My girl was inside the house and said that the sale lady came in and mentioned to the other workers that she told the guy in the garage he could have the vise for $1, IF he could get it off. My girl said, that's my guy, if he wants it he'll get it off, not to worry.

Had a similar experience recently. Found a nice vise still the attached to the bench. The front two bolts were easy enough with the tools I had handy but the rear nut was recessed into the bench. Too many other people around to want to stop and run to my truck for a socket set. Found a loose hacksaw blade hanging on the wall and went to town. Fortunately it was a soft bolt, at 5/8" it would have been a job otherwise. Another guy there going through the tools just looked at me and said, 'You must have really needed a vise?!'. Well yeah. It was 4" Rock Island in really good condition. I can always trade up later, right?

The rosemary? It's totally green, maybe not the same shade as the box originally but it is closer than trying to top coat hammertone with any other color.

Drives me crazy. Tool box full of tools. Travel box, truck kit, spares, etc. etc. and I still end up somewhere without so much as a pair of pliers or a cresent.

Did pretty good this weekend.

First stop = $170
Delta midi lathe 46-250. Barely used and needing a belt(was there but degraded from sitting)
Dewalt scroll saw dw788. Looks new with the blade installed upside down($500 new)
Ryobi 6" thin line grinder. Grinder and wheels look brand new
Cooper Tools compressor. Research shows it is oiled and was sold by costco for $150.
Rock Island no 443 vise. 3" or 3.5" A little beat up but the jaws look nice and it functions well.

Yes and the phone makes it worse. The color is close to olive green like the moss color suede I used on top.

When I found my 5" Parker, it was bolted to a bench in the Attic. I didn't want someone else claiming it before I could get a wrench from my truck, so when I went downstairs to pay for it, I took the dynamic jaw with me so the part still bolted to the bench would look useless to anyone else. I still had a lot of running up and down the stairs though.

Good thinking. Just be careful how you judge 'useless'. Last year a local shop sold half a vise as 'industrial decor'. It wasn't cheap. Perhaps its just an LA thing. I'm not even sure they knew it was broken.

Interesting find today at an estate sale, all for a whopping $3. I didn't find much at first, but then while doing a third look through I came across this: (4) SK NOS never opened items; (1) Dunlap 1/4 set; Craftsman underline C sockets and T; file safety handle; various USA Utica and Craftsman underline C pliers; and (1) Klien strippers.

I'm assuming the SK stuff is from the late 80's, early 90's. The sockets are a style I've never seen with SK.

Roughly 18"d x 10"w x 6"h. There was a second one, but the frame was damaged, crooked, and drawers didn't sit in well. Looking back, I should of just bought that one too, as I probably could've fixed it.

Found this vise for $5, BenHur AA-12 probably not very good, but works will probably use it on welding table that way I wont feel bad about putting a nice one there.

$10 for the combo at a real selling everything moving out of state cause were old garage sale.

As I was driving home, I can't help but think that the old man (whilst all the crazyness of the first 10 mins of opening rush) may have thought I meant the vise grip when I said "how much for the vise and the hammer" while pointing to the table.

Then again, it's not like he said anything as I was ratcheting the bolts off the table nor when he was trying to help me load it on the dolly (150+lbs I tell you) and into my car. Probably one of those, heck fine $10 bucks it is moments!

Nice vise, good score! I love those kinds of sales, I picked up a 3.5" Craftsman for $1 yesterday from a similar "old and moving, gotta sell everything" sale.
